Jupiter will turn his big back on us as he turns RETROGRADE, as he does every year, on Feb 5th/6th @ 23+ degrees LIBRA and the BIG PLANET will Retrograde back to 13 degrees 13 minutes until June 8/9th. RETROGRADE planetary times get a bad rap but they are very important and ought to be used very positively.

This means its REJUVENATION time!

As Jupiter is the planet of optimism, faith, trust, foreigners, freedom, risk taking, gambling, religion, truth, higher education, honesty, justice, politics, the military and travel as ruler of SAGITTARIUS and PISCES all of these things will now go SOUTH. Restrictions on these things is already being set up and will be reviewed. This is not a time to move forwards. Do not gamble.

Over the next four months things contract. All of the forward progress made will be poured over, investigated, re-examined, sent back to the courts, as…

Mercury Retrograde 2013 (February through March)

Apparently the Solar Fire Electional search feature (in versions 7 & 8) does not have the ability to identify the beginning and end of retrograde periods.  So, we are using the following sources to identify Mercury retrograde periods for 2013:

(1) http://www.light-weaver.com/calendar/mercury_retro.html

(2) http://www.findyourfate.com/astrology/year2013/2013-mercury-retrograde.html

(3) http://www.blogher.com/frame.php?url=http://juliemcallister.com/astrology/mercury-in-retrograde-2013/

We note that source #1 shows Mercury Retrograde as starting at 4:41 am EST on February 23rd and source #3 as the exact moment as 3:41 am EST.  (Of course, we adjust to Central Time since we cast the charts for Plano.)  Since the Daily Planetary Guide says 4:41 EST, we will use that as the tie-breaker.

Update: Tech support has given me a workaround for finding Mercury Retrograde periods using Electional Search:

Electional Search
Choose Coordinates

Transiting point =Mercury
Coordinate type = Long.Speed
Comparison type= <

Comparison value = 0

But, for this post, we will stick with the original analysis.

Here is the chart for the beginning of the retrograde cycle:

And the Retrograde period ends on March 17th (St. Patricks Day)

Here is the U.S. Map for this chart.  We note a powerful activation that crosses Houston and central Mexico.  It is a combination of Pluto and an asteroid known for bringing about Justice.  We suspect that this will be a particularly bad time for organized crime entities that are connected to this geography.  Surprises are coming for them.

We see that both the Netherlands and the UK are particularly active, also:

Australia and New Zealand are highly activated:

India is comparatively quiet, except Raipur (and to some degree Delhi):

Presidential Election 2012

We will avoid an analysis of the candidates in this post because (a) it has been done extensively elsewhere and (b) we might do it later in another post.  We find the election itself more interesting.  (Some analysis of the candidates is necessary, but we prefer to focus on the aspects surrounding the election itself.)

By the way, we like this commentary on the 2008 election.

That said, we have decided to use the opening of the polls in Cobb County (Georgia) as our initial chart.  Why?  (Why not Plano, for example.  That’s where we cast almost everything else.  Or what about New York?  Or Ohio?)

A quick and informal search of “nov 6 2012 poll opens” in our favorite search engine lead us to the Cobb County site as the first meaningful description of the opening of the polls.  Since the internet was unquestionably important in the last election, and will be more so in this one (particularly via social networking), we use an internet source as the basis of “When do the polls open?”

Speaking of the internet, have you seen the Amazon Heatmap of the Presidential Election?  Since it is subject to change, we will include of snapshot of what we are looking at as this commentary is being written:

So, what does that mean?  Is the country really Red?  The (other) polls say otherwise.  Maybe what this map really means is this: Republicans tend to read more paper-based books whereas Democrats take in their information from other sources, such as television (and the internet).  Is the map real, or is it skewed?  Are we seeing a reflection of a population moving away from reading?

That said, here is the chart that results:

We first note that, unlike the election of 2000, the Moon is not void.  It is in Leo and applying to a square to the Sun and waning.  As is true with all U.S. Presidential elections for anyone who is currently living, the Sun is in Scorpio (in early November).  But, unlike most other elections, the Sun has recently conjoined Saturn.

As has been true in the past 3 elections, especially 2000 and 2004, the Moon dominates the election.  Unlike the void Moon of 2000, we have a Moon that is certain of its intent here.  We will get a decisive result.  [Update: when I wrote this I did not realize that Mercury was making a retrograde station on this date.  Rather than saying we will get a decisive result, I think I should say that I expect confusion to abound.  Indeed, we may not know who the winner is until as long as several weeks after the election.  This will be a close one.]

Although recounts could happen, we do not expect them.  We do think that the waning Moon may signal the end of an era of some kind.  That is, after this term, the United States will be a very different place from what it has been like for a number of decades.  We will go further and argue that this era started the last time that the Sun conjoined Saturn in Scorpio, roughly 45 days prior to the 1980 election.

The Sun is six (6) days past its first conjunction with Scorpio in (approximately) the past 30 years.  Specifically, the last time the Sun conjoined Saturn (for the first time after entry) was September 22, 1980.  That was a bit before the Reagan election of 1980That election was a rare landslide election that went against an incumbent (Jimmy Carter).  Specifically, a pro-business conservative Republican governor upset a liberal Democrat President who had problems in the Middle East.  Could that happen here?

The polls currently say no.  And, we tend to agree with the polls.  This is because of the position of the Moon.  Specifically, if we look at the Moon in Romney’s natal chart, it is placed between Saturn and Pluto.  *IF* he is elected, then this will have an interesting symmetry with the Diamond Pattern of the 2012 Solstice.

But, Obama has the Moon conjunct Mercury, a bit more favorable as far as aspects go.  We think he will win.  But, Mars & Pluto in the second house say that the last four years were just the prelude, the beginning, of the deep fiscal issues that the nation, and the world, will face in the next four years.  Sadly, we have not seen the worst of it yet.  And, we cannot spend our way out of it.

And, some comparisons of Obama to Jimmy Carter are being made.  Fox News wrote an article called “Obama is Jimmy Carter 2.0.”  Fox is rather conservative, but what about the Washington Times?  And, BEFORE he was elected, the New York Observer made a set of Obama / Carter comparisons.  Assuming that you are old enough to remember who Jimmy Carter was, and why he was voted out of office, is that a fair comparison?

What will be interesting will be to see the mood of the country when the Sun / Scorpio conjunction happens this year.  We would not be surprised to see an event of some kind between the upcoming Full Moon and that conjunction that might cause some kind of shift in the sentiment of the country.  And, Jupiter has left its contact with Obama’s natal moon and is applying to a conjunction with Romney’s natal Uranus.  A surprise could happen.

We note also that (1) if Moon favors Obama then we expect women, in general, to do so also.  But (2) Moon between Saturn & Pluto for Romney COULD mean an unusual show of solidarity by conservative women.  The ladies in red jackets might make a strong showing.  Finally, (3) we believe that the Saturn return group (and we will loosely define this) of 1980 to 1986 births will be a decisive factor in this election.  (They might can even out-vote the younger “college student” group that was so strong in the last election.)

Here is the chart of the Sun / Saturn conjunction for this year, followed by the 1980 Sun/Saturn conjunction chart (both set in Plano):

2011-04-03 New Moon

This entry is an analysis of the New Moon of April, 2011.  For last year’s April New moon, click here.

Here is a United States map of the New Moon of April 3, 2011

Note that a number of lines are “near” the Cascadia Fault Line.  Given the events of March 11th et seq, this might be an indicator of a possible Vancouver / California earthquake following “Higashi Nihon Daishinsai.”  If you want to learn more, consider viewing the Nova program “Japan’s Killer Quake.”

The Middle East map is interesting.  The conjoint Mars/Uranus lines pass through a center point between Beirut and Baghad.  Does that need any explanation?  This is almost certainly the most revolutionary combination.  The implication is that the spirit of revolution is likely to spread throughout the Mid East.   Here is the map:

Additionally, a large number of lines pass through the United Arab Emirates, near the Strait of Hormuz.  Fortunately, these lines are much more beneficial, and they tend to indicate that UAE will be spared of any revolution and may even benefit.  This likely heralds an (even more) Golden Era for Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

This map also shows benefit for Rome and the Vatican, with Venus on the Descendant.

Paris is more problematic: situated between Chiron and Neptune, Paris (and France) will have to re-think certain old issues and undergo some kind of healing.  But, the result of these tribulations will be that Paris can become at least a teacher (if not a leader) in showing the rest of us how to deal with these problems.

Regarding Asia: sometimes Astrology simply confirms what we already know.  In particular, with Saturn at MC, Japan in general and Tokyo in particular, is experiencing a series of ongoing tests and tribulations.  (What kind of news is that?  But, Saturn at MC tells us that.  It also tells us that Japan can become STRONGER as a result of these lessons.)

Sun and Moon conjoint with IC near Tokyo indicates that Tokyo, and Japan, will be highly focused on domestic matters.  (Again, no real news here.)  Mars/Uranus crosses Fukuoka, near Hiroshima, but that region (so far) has been unaffected.  Most interesting are the implications that the Southern portion of the Pacific Rim may be more greatly affected (economically?) than Japan itself.  Perhaps the aftershocks (cultural and economic, that is) are far from over.

Here is the Australia / NZ map:

Most interesting is the Mercury (Retrograde) line near Sydney.  Sydney will have an opportunity to revisit an old problem and solve it, or face communications or transportation problems.

Some of you will be interested in the New Moon chart (set in Plano, of course).  Note that the Sun/Moon lines run west of California (refer to U.S. Map, above) and Chiron / Neptune are associated with Pennsylvania and New York (and the surrounding region).

Other considerations:  Sun and Moon (“the lights”) have just crossed Mars and Uranus (still effectively conjunct, or at least “near”) and are travelling to meet Jupiter and Retrograde Mercury.

If you are an Aries, this will be a very powerful month AND year for you, and you will be looking at old projects.  You may even have some old “dead” dreams resurrected and see them come to pass, giving you your heart’s desire (unless they are nightmares!).

Children born at this time will have difficulty at times because they will be so willful (and sometimes destructive), yet (in hindsight) we will come to realize that some of these leaders will accomplish what no one else could.  Except for child stars in Hollywood, we will not likely see this come to pass until some time between “about” 2030 and 2050.  (Maybe someone born at this time will solve the “Y38K Problem.”)

Edit: (added late Apr-03)  Remember the chain of disasters last Spring (followed on this blog) that eventually culminated in the Deepwater Horizon disaster?  If so, read this (timely) article:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2011/04/04/deepwater-horizon-drilling-firm-hands-out-safety-bonuses-to-execs-115875-23036285/

One last comment: a “time crunch” (for the author of this blog) has re-appeared, so the next post here could be later this month.  HOPEFULLY, a Full Moon analysis will be possible, but might be later than that.

Full Moon of May 27, 2010

This Full Moon comes as a powerful punctuation mark in a rare series of powerful patterns.  Interpretations of these patterns vary widely.  Probably because the are so rare they are difficult for the astrological community to form a consensus.  Some claim they are disruptive (they have been), and others claim opportunity.  Whichever set of advice that you follow, these patterns will tend to produce clear winners and losers.  And, in some cases, they will produce lose-lose situations where nobody benefits.

To paraphrase what has been described as “an old Chinese curse,” we are living in “interesting times.”  (See, also, this link.)

Here is the basic chart along with a few variations:

For those who like more details

In addition to the required Sun-Moon opposition, a number of other oppositions are occurring.  Jupiter and Uranus are “near” each other (most would say conjunct) and both oppose Saturn.  Uranus enters Aries about an hour and a half later.  Since Uranus has an 84 year orbit, it is clearly on the cusp, and even a slight error in calculation could mean it has entered Aries.  Regardless, this entry heralds (more) explosions, accidents, and revolutions (of all kinds, including but not limited to political).

Both Saturn and Uranus are also making stations.  This means they are almost “standing still” currently.  Saturn turns direct on Sunday, and Uranus turns direct on Monday.  Frankly, for the financial markets, this probably means “you ain’t seen nuttin’ yet.”  That is, an even more profound downturn could happen Monday or sometime early that week.

A large number of Arabic Parts are activated, you may explore these in the next version of the chart:

April 2010: Venus Square Mars and Mercury Square Mars

Not too long before the upcoming Mercury Retrograde, and this weekend, Venus will Square Mars and Mercury will Square Mars. Each will bring a culmination of events launch earlier, many starting on the recent Equinox and/or Full Moon.  However, this is not the end of story.  Mercury retrograde will force us to revisit, step by step, what happened.  Mercury retrograde is about mistakes, errors, and omissions.  But, sometimes, Mercury retrograde is about uncovering mistakes, errors, and omissions.  You can bet that the upcoming retrograde will have interesting revelations.

This weekend shows, among other things, that Saturday is great for romance, of the hottest kind.  But, reality will kick in Sunday, and for some terrible fights will be had.  Try to find a constructive way to spin off all that anger on Sunday.  Here are the charts:

Thursday Jan 29, 2008 Piscean Moon Down Time

This is a day spent best in down time. The Piscean Moon tells us that as we near the Mercury Direct Station (which marks the end of the Retrograde, but not of the weirdness).

The Mercury Retrograde weirdness ends a little after the Direct Station. In our case, that means next week, probably “about” February 8th.

Today, try not to take on any major projects if you can avoid it. Your weaknesses will be exposed, and you will have to regroup to do it better. Better to discover these weaknesses privately, yourself, rather than to be “surprised” (and embarrassed).

This weekend is a big one, so stay tuned.

January 6, 2009 A Mostly Uneventful Day

The way writing astrology columns goes is that I am supposed to tell you about some dramatic event. I’ve already covered that with Jupiter moving into Aquarius on Monday and the upcoming Full Moon on Saturday followed by the Mercury Retrograde Station on Sunday.

To be sure, these are interesting times that ask us to scrutinize our thoughts, communications, and travel. But, today, TODAY (Jan 6th) is relatively quiet and uneventful. You probably know the name for this: “the calm before the storm.”

You should already be noticing glitches in your life, a bit like when Neo notices the black cat walk by and then again. Mercury Retrograde “reprograms” our “Matrix” a bit. So, as you may choose, take advantage of this brief calm period to prepare for the approaching storm.

Astrology for New Year 2009, Part 1

The New Year asks us a few things and tells us some.

It asks us:

  1. Do you realize that what you say is what you will grow?  The stories you tell your friends this year will benefit, or haunt, you for years to come.
  2. Do you know what you need to know to improve your health?
  3. Are you in touch with your dreams?
  4. Do you know (a) who can help you make your dreams happen? and (b) who would hold you back and cheat you from achieving your goals?
  5. Do you know who is wasting your time and energy?
  6. Do you know how to best use your time and abilities to give back to the community?

Also, 2009 tells us:

  1. Whether it is Obama or someone else, we need to handle the large banks the way the phone company was handled in the 1980s: they need to be broken into smaller regional banks and made accountable to the people.
  2. Large corporations will engage in massive deception to keep us from seeing the truth: the real power is in the people, small business, and (at the biggest) regional organizations.
  3. The health care system, ESPECIALLY mental health, is overdue for an overhaul.  We continue to ignore the problems at our peril.
  4. Crime will be rampant, especially fraud and crimes based on deceit.
  5. More than any other year in recent times, this will be a year to get in touch with our educational needs, health needs, legal issues, dreams, intuitive abilities, and abilities to heal by teaching others.

Many of the forecasts on this blog focus on identifying potholes in the road ahead. Good news is available; read it here.

Interactions between Mercury, Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune will be important in 2009, and they will bring us a chance to heal from the difficulties of 2008. But, we will have to guard against false hopes and deception. Even so, we may be given a glimpse of what we are truly capable of being.

Assuming you just read that analysis, let me expand upon it further. The bad news is that Jupiter will no longer soften the effect of Pluto in Capricorn. The good news is that Jupiter will not amplify the effect of Pluto in Capricorn. Instead, Jupiter moving into Aquarius means that Jupiter will interact with Neptune and Chiron to bring a major shift in how we “do business.” Speaking of “Business,” that field is ruled by both Jupiter and Saturn. If Saturn is the source of power for those who benefit from “bear markets,” then Jupiter is the source for those who favor “bull markets.”

Jupiter is saying what is coming to fore in the political world: growth will no longer come from larger corporations who continue to merge into larger corporations. The monoculture of giant, megalithic corporations will only continue to concentrate wealth for a few, leaving the rest of us to suffer. Jupiter is saying that our collective strength will come from recognizing the power of “the people.”

In the past, Democrats were known as “Trust Busters.” Will it happen now? Instead of bailing out the huge banks who have made bad decisions, will we break them up into smaller entities? Will we awaken to the idea that we need to restore power to regional and community banks? Or will we continue to “bail out” banks so they can have junkets on corporate jets and charge the citizenry 30% interest on credit cards?

To be sure, as mentioned in the other article, Mercury will have important interactions with Jupiter. That will be true for other planets, notably Venus, but that’s a topic for another article.

Jupiter transits into Aquarius on January 5th, during the shadow of the Mercury Retrograde. Mercury is Stationary Retrograde January 11th, which makes accomplishment difficult. Many businesses and institutions do not reopen until January 5th, after the holiday. Broadly speaking, they’ll be “in for a surprise,” as we sometimes say here in Dallas.

More on 2009 in Part 2.

Christmas, 2008 (Sextiles, and Conjuncts, and Trines, Oh My!)

For this column, since about September or October of 2008, I usually follow two rules: (1) Keep it Short (two or three, maybe four, paragraphs); (2) Keep it Simple (Most people don’t really care if Mercury Sextiles Uranus or not, but they DO want to now that this would be a time for creativity in both finances and the arts.) This time, I’m going to break both of those rules.

Before I go any further, I want to may plugs for two sites I’ve found recently.  I like what I’ve seen in both places: (1) http://www.newworldastrology.blogspot.com/ and (2) http://astrologyscout.com/  This last one is an astrology aggregator, and includes my site as well as others.

This prediction is for the general period from the Winters Solstice of 2008 until the following New Moon on Saturday, December 27th.

Tuesday (today): Venus Conjoins Chiron (both in late Aquarius) to bring to the forefront issues of healing. Late Aquarius is really about justice, especially social justice, more than any other part of the Zodiac, including all of Libra. Late Aquarius is the “Libra Decan” of Aquarius, and Aquarius won’t let things rest until the appropriate change has come to pass. Venus is love, beauty, health, and finances, and it joins with the “Wounded Healer” today. Try to resolve disputes today, and if not today by Saturday. Any thoughts that you can cover up or shut up someone will bite you badly, probably within a few days of January 11th.

Wednesday: Just in case you didn’t get yesterday’s message: this period is about healing old wounds. Take a look at your family and your economic sustenance (your business, workplace, or whatever you do to “take home the groceries”). Some innovative ideas may come to you today, but realize that this aspect of Mercury (in Capricorn) Sextile Uranus (in Pisces) will favor Earth and Water Signs the most. Creative finance engendered today will either go very well or very badly. Don’t debt, no matter what the temptation.

Thursday: This is a mostly uneventful Christmas that turns back into “business” as usual in the evening for those on the East Coast, early afternoon for those on the West Coast, and about Midnight for those in the UK. Do what most people do: spend the day with family today. One special exception: (re-read Tuesday): visiting those in Nursing Homes and other Institutions who have been left alone and abandoned.  If you know someone who works this day (nurse, police officer, etc.), please do something special for them.  A special, and unexpected, gift may come to you if you do these things today (or yesterday).

Friday: Issues from the time of the Full Moon on December 12th to Monday December 15th have re-surfaced due to yesterday evenings “T-Square” activation of the “Grand Cross” of that time. For you, that means today has a kind of frantic feel to it. This isn’t just about returning goods or “re-gifting” or any of that stuff. Urgent issues come to light, and not enough time seems available. Actually, you are right. Not enough time is available, and that situation will get worse, much worse, between now and January 11th. Don’t be afraid to work as hard as you need to; do “get things done.” Remember, today is mostly about cleanout and planning. Do NOT launch any new ventures until Monday. (However, you might want to refer to the Daily Planetary Guide and Jim Shawvan’s note of a Cazimi period about 7am EST on Saturday morning.)

Saturday: The VERY short Cazimi period is useful to get a very SMALL handful of focused items done. This lasts for a MAXIMUM of an hour, starting about 6:30 AM EST. After that, the rest of today is about “down time.” Play if you will, but don’t do anything dangerous or “too” physical. Today is a good day for romance, but probably a bad day for anything to last. Romances STARTED today (you meet that special new person) have a tendency to fizzle, and that will probably happen by January 11th.

Think of Saturday as “Love Potion #9” day: you’ll be kissing everything in sight, until you kiss the Policeman and 11th and Vine.  🙂

Mercury Retrograde: Why do I keep mentioning January 11th? That is the day of the Mercury Retrograde station for the next retrograde. We’ll be entering the “storm” phase soon, and getting things done will be difficult. Expect misplaced items, lost messages, and delays. If you DO “clean house” during this period, then the few weeks after January 11th can become very useful as you can focus the retrograde energy on rediscovering old projects that deserve a second look. Please have you vehicle (car, boat, or otherwise) serviced as soon as possible. You don’t want “that” kind of surprise.
