2016-05 W20: Forecasts for Week 20 of 2016

Archive of Week 19 (W19)

We are in the middle of May as well as a series of retrogrades including Mercury Retrograde, and “things” are likely to be interesting until at least after May 22nd (arguably later because of the other retrogrades in play also).  (Clarissa has written a great piece on the Mercury Retrograde.  And you can find more about these periods for the rest of the year here.  This page may also be useful.)  The Taurus New Moooon perfected on May 6th, and we will have a Sagittarius Moon / Gemini Sun on May 21st (a day after Sun moves into Gemini).  Let’s be clear: for better or worse, “things” will change with that lunation and the accompanying Mercury direct station.

School is out, and has been out, for most students, and that particular weekend (May 21/22) marks the true beginning of “summer” for anyone who follows the academic year.  But astrological summer, the official beginning of “summer,” does not begin until the Summer Solstice on June 20th (which also has another full moon).  The retrograde station of Chiron on June 27th and direct station of Mars on June 29th will mark another significant shift.  We will cover these events in more detail as they near, but keep in mind these critical dates as you set plans for vacations, trips, meetings, and so forth.

Some time in the next few days we will delete the older May predictions and add newer ones, so please do check back.  We are not gone, but we are not checking in EVERY day, either.

One final note: we know that the “Live Traffic Feed” in the sidebar is not working correctly, but the problem is not on our end.  We want to give the provider at least a few more weeks before we remove it altogether.  It has been with us since the beginning (2008), and we hate to remove it.  (But, if it continues to be broken, then we will be forced to do the inevitable.)

May 2016 (Mars Out)

Week 20 (W20)

May 8th

Today is Mothers Day, and a (very loose) Grand Cross is arguably in play.  “Things” may be a bit weird with some “things” grinding to a halt (“full stop!”), and others suddenly becoming ready for launch.  Look beyond the chaos for the opportunity, and launch whatever needs to be launched today.  That could include being kind / helpful / generous to your mother / someone else’s mother / a woman who wishes she had been someone’s mother or someone similar.  Look beyond the obvious for the opportunity to be a decent human being worthy of having had someone to care for you when you could not care for yourself.

May 9th

Jupiter stations direct today.  Some of you have been feeling this for a few days or maybe longer.  You really feel it if you, or someone close to you, is clergy (or a particularly spiritual person), a lawyer or otherwise involved with the legal system, or someone who works in higher education (or someone who once worked in one of those systems, including those who are retired or disabled).

Jupiter is associated with centaurs and kindness to animals can be a good idea today.  Consider watching Earthlings if you have never developed a sense of decency or kindness towards animals.  (Warning: “Earthlings” is not for the faint of heart.  It can be very difficult to watch!)

May 10th

Venus (Taurus) trines Jupiter (Virgo) today, and the Moon is very active.  Retrograde Mercury (Taurus) also trines the North Node (Virgo), and the outer planets are quiet.  Given the consideration that five planets are retrograde, much can be accomplished today particularly short term objectives that may be part of resurrected projects from the past.  Most people tend to benefit from today although earth signs (and water) tend to benefit the most.  This is likely the best “get things done” day of the week and maybe the entire Mercury Retrograde period.

May 11th

Most of the work day in the Western Hemisphere is void, and Venus Quincunx Saturn clearly marks that yesterday’s window of opportunity has closed and this is mostly an “off day” for most people.  Jim Shawvan marks this particular lunar void as an “opportunity period,” but we still think it is a risky period.  Avoid major commitments today if at all possible and stick to routine.

Hygeia stations direct, and issues involving health and healthcare will come to the forefront for some people.  Also, Mars sesquiquadrate Uranus in early hours tomorrow makes both today and tomorrow potentially dangerous.  Do not do anything rash in traffic, and avoid saying words that you may not be able to take back later.

May 12th

Today is a mixed bag but more good than bad and certainly better than yesterday. Today is not as good as Tuesday but much better than yesterday. Retrograde Mercury (Taurus) trines Pluto (Capricorn) and something comes back to us.  This could be an old project or it could be a lost (and important) object.  Quadrinoviles involving Vesta (bright ideas but typically more for police / military) are present this evening.

Write down those fleeting ideas and know that they can be useful later, possibly as the planets move direct.  Late evening has annoyances, and new parents may have a baby that cannot be consoled.  With yesterday’s Hygeia station consider healthcare for the young one if any doubt whatsoever exists regarding their status.

Mars sesquiquadrate Uranus in early hours makes both yesterday and today potentially dangerous.  Do not do anything rash in traffic, and avoid saying words that you may not be able to take back later.

May 13th

Retrograde Mercury and Venus join and later Venus trines Pluto.  This is all mostly benevolent, but a lunar void tells us to stick to routine after noon.  Previously planned events (and dates) may not work out.  Your date this evening might be a “no show.”  Try not to be too angry as this may have involved events beyond the control of the other person.  Stick to routine if you can, and have fun with whomever is present.

May 14th

Early morning hours are tainted by a lunar square to Mars which is wonderful for athletes and can be good for police officers but is miserable for most of the rest of us.  It is short term and will pass.  Sun sextile Chiron dominates the day bringing up issues involving healthcare, teaching, and mentors.  While all of those will not apply to you, likely one of them will apply.  Today and tomorrow the mutable T-Square we have been discussing (refer to our New Moon analysis) is activated by Moon in Virgo.  Expect irritations and channel that energy into useful accomplishment.

The Chinese New Year is marked by the New Moon of February, this year falling on the 8th at 19 degrees of Aquarius. In the northern hemisphere, many breathe a sigh of relief at reaching the end of winter’s dark tunnel and seeing the first signs of spring. We are entering the Year of the Monkey, which could bring a high degree of playfulness and success in our cherished endeavors. Monkey years are more progressive and fast-paced than other years, helping us to get out of our ruts and get a lot done.

A theme during this New Moon is around recovering from the many of the sharp blows experienced during Mercury’s retrograde cycle throughout January and dealing its post-shadow still in effect until February 14th. The Gregorian New Year started off with a breakdown in our major channel for communication (at least in astrological terms), Mercury, which formed an…

FEBRUARY NEW MOON REPORT

Do you really know or understand the “New Moon”, often also called the “Dark Moon” due to it being the least amount of light in the months Lunar cycles.

The February New Moon of 2016 is really a wonderful energy. It takes place in the 11th House of the Zodiac for starters, and that is a great house to reside in because it holds some of the best energies, it’s the “Manifestation of What We Have Wished For.” So it’s very important no matter what your sign is to make New Moon wishes and “Set Intentions”. (To learn more about how head over to my blog site at rubysreadings.com.)This month’s New Moon is also in very open-minded Aquarius, so let yout thoughts flow.

Pay attention all my Aries or Aries Rising folks, this New Moon triggers the 11th House in your own personal Birth Chart in…

New Moon in Monkey

The Celebration of the Yang Fire Monkey Year begins with the new Moon on February 7th. This picture says a lot about how a monkey would celebrate a new Moon in the sign of Aquarius. There’s that ever present technology, which has changed our way of interacting with one another as we enter the ‘Aquarian Age.’

aquariusAquarius is a constellation in the zodiac with two ‘rulers, ‘ Saturn and Uranus.  Both are very active in this chart.   Rulers give a clue as to the nature of the energy for the signs. Aquarius has a Saturnic, i.e., manifesting talent, but unlike the previous sign, Capricorn, also ‘ruled’ by Saturn, Aquarius is more likely to create something in a new way or new realm. Saturn, as ruler of Aquarius is influenced by the quirky and revolutionary nature of Uranus. He’s not his Capricorn solid and traditional self…

magic happens

On Monday 8th February, we have a new moon in Aquarius, the sign of the maverick, the visionary, the freedom lover, the inventor. If there’s one sign that hates limitations of all kinds and has perfected the art of leaping out of, or getting rid of the box altogether, it’s Aquarius.  When the sun and moon are bopping along together in this sign, we’re all infused with some of this free spirit energy and are able to rise above our normal daily lives, get some perspective and re-envision them with new vigour and vitality.

However, there often seem to be a few issues with those wonderful new visions we have for our lives. Even though they look and sound really magnificent, they often seem to come to nought, as we sabotage them before they can start to manifest.   Have you ever wondered why we shoot ourselves in the feet…

Venus In The Fifth

nut8Nut, Egyptian Goddess of air and the universe, stretching her body over the world to create the heavens.

Aquarius’ liberating energy graces us on February 8th (9:39 AM EST) with a new moon at 19’16 degrees. New Moons are the beginning phase of a cycle. During this time we plant seeds and hopefully they develop and come to fruition during the Full Moon phase. This is the reason why setting intentions during the new moon can be a powerful tool towards bringing awareness

Aquarius is the sign of liberation and freedom. Above all else during this time we need to question what we’re willing to fight for and what our place is when it comes to humanity. The new moons sextile to Uranus/Vesta in Aries brings about a forceful and radical approach to what we’re passionate about and the kinds of sacrifices we’re willing to make…

aquarDear Friends,

New Years 2016 (Thor’s Hammer Key)

New Years 2016 (Thor’s Hammer Key)

Let us first address, if not dispense with, a common topic: when does “New Years” occur?  The answer is it occurs once per time zone, with as many occurrences as there are time zones.  That begs the question: how many time zones are there?  A quick Bing search yields this answer: “There are 40 unique time zones based on UTC offset. However there are 198 time zones abbreviations around the world, including daylight saving time zones.”

Needless to say, we are not doing forty charts (we will leave that chore to others to address time zones that we do not), and we are certainly not doing 198 (though it might be an interesting topic to revisit, especially at shifts from Standard Time to Daylight Savings Time and back).  If you want to look up the offsets for your particular time zone, click here.  See, also: this list of time zone offsets.

So, the message is simple: EACH time zone has its own “personal” chart for the New Year, each with a similar (but slightly different) message.  This year, the chart for Melbourne / Tokyo and the Pacific Rim are is particularly outstanding, meaning we expect a strong calendar year for this region.  (Especially economic prosperity as long as people in the region remember to help those who are less fortunate than themselves.)

Please also keep in mind that this is only one of several “New Years.”  Another is the Chinese New Year in February (only a few days past a Cross Quarter Day this year!), and another is the Astrological New Year (Vernal Equinox).

We also recommend a few other things: (1) if you can, find last year’s “New Year’s Resolution” list and review it.  Did you actually accomplish anything?  What is different?  (2) Use a service to send this year’s list (and maybe old ones) to yourself sometime in late 2016 (We like late October because it provides enough to REALLY think about what you want for next year, 2017 in this case.  As far as these services go, we like FutureMe.org  We have no financial or other interest in that site, we just like it.

You may find it useful to make a list of what you DID accomplish.  And another useful exercise is to make a list of what you are grateful for.  Maybe you have it better than you realize.

If you review those notes in late October, you can do a “test run” on your “resolutions” in November.  This assumes you actually want to change or actually want to accomplish something.  If you are just spouting rhetoric, then no need to follow this.  After you fail in November (and you will, and the pain of Scorpio will teach you lessons), you can revise your unrealistic expectations for ANOTHER test in December.  Dump what does not work.  Then, after two “trial runs,” put it into gear in January.  If you fail again in January, then give up.  You are too unrealistic and disconnected from your true self to really understand what you really want and what you are really capable of doing.  Reality testing is important here, and Capricorn is very, very good at helping with that.

That said, if the time has passed for you to use our methods of testing and tuning resolutions for 2016, then make a resolution to send yourself a reminder (using a service like FutureMe) and accomplish that resolution immediately!

Speaking of last year’s resolutions and plans, here is the chart for New Years 2014/2015.  2015 had amazing potential if you believe what that chart had to offer.  How did you use it?  Did you make the year “count,” or did you waste your opportunities?

Some of you may think that we may sound like we are chastising you, but you need to keep this in mind: as an Astrologer we are Father Time’s (more precisely, Saturn’s or Kronos’) agent.  We are just doing our job!

Most of the charts for New Years 2015 / 2016 have a pattern present that we call a “Thor’s Hammer Key” (or a “God’s Fist Key,” if you prefer that terminology).  This pattern is composed of TWO interlinked Thor’s Hammer patterns and provide a HUGE amount of energy to “get things done” but also contains a danger of anger and violence.

Since Star Wars Episode VII is currently (December 2015) playing in theaters, we will borrow language from the Star Wars universe: “you will be tempted by the Dark Side of the force.”  Count on that this year.  Going into ANY situation unprepared for this possibility is a very, VERY bad idea this year.  2016, more than other years, is about being prepared, “getting things done,” and accomplishment.  (The numerologists, when they start talking about this, will confirm what I am saying: “2016” is a “9” year, and THAT is about COMPLETION.)

So, since it is a particularly large population center near the International Date Line and, therefore, one of the first New Year’s celebrations, we start with a chart set in Melbourne, Australia (AEST, UTC +10):

2016-01-01 New Years Melbourne AUS (AEST) Thors Hammer Key[Click Image to Enlarge]

We see the Thor’s Hammer Key in play, Moon is approaching perfection of conjunction with Jupiter (a highly benevolent aspect), and Moon has not yet gone void of course (as it does in most other charts).  12th House is quite active, and people living in this region would benefit from addressing 12th house issues: helping those less fortunate than themselves, dealing with scams and frauds, drug and alcohol issues, poetry, lyrics, music, photography, and videography.  Maybe this is Melbourne’s year to become a film production center.  (Much of what we are saying applies to the “Pacific Rim” region, including Japan and Tokyo).  The remaining charts ALL contain a void of course moon EXCEPT Los Angeles, CA (where the moon is still “too early to tell”).

We present the chart for New Year’s in Moscow without comment except to note that we filtered for a T-Square that is also present.  (The same Thor’s Hammer Key pattern is in play, though.)

2016-01-01 Moscow (BAT) Thors Hammer Key

Next, we present the chart for London:

2016-01-01 New Years London (UTC) Thors Hammer Key

New York City (EST):

2016-01-01 New Years New York City (EST) Thors Hammer Key

Dallas (and Plano, our location as we publish these forecasts):

2016-01-01 New Years Dallas (CST) Thors Hammer Key

And, finally, Los Angeles CA (PST):

2016-01-01 New Years Los Angeles (PST) Thors Hammer Key[Click Image to Enlarge]

One more time: “get things done” and bring CLOSURE to major projects this year.  You will have special windows of opportunity that you will NEVER see again, and 2017 marks the beginning of a very, very different period.

The earth element continues to dominate the transits this week. Ademtos (Transneptunian), Virgo Moon, and Mercury in Capricorn form a grand earth trine on New Year’s Eve. The trio is in the ingress chart for the 2016 chart in some parts of the world (New York and the United States East Coast has this configuration within orb at the stroke of midnight on January 1). That is one rock solid, albeit ephemeral, grand trine! Naturally, many useful themes arise as attention to taking on the New Year approaches. Both emotion and thought, already manifesting in an earthy manner via Moon and Mercury, have a solid base to operate from, provided by Admetos. Instinctively using communication to build enduring structures, using ideas persistently to fill emotional needs, and focusing on gathering practical information to meet security needs are all relevant themes to approach the challenges…

In Native American cultures, December’s Full Moon that is near the Summer Solstice – thus travelling a high path through the sky – was known as the Full ’Long Nights’ Moon or Full ’Cold’ Moon. This year, we have a domicile Full ’Long Nights’ Moon near its southernmost ecliptical latitude (-5,84 degrees), below the star called ’Propus’ (eta Geminorum).

Hello beautiful.

This moon shines in her fullness in the early hours of Christmas morning. It’s the first full moon on Christmas day since 1977! As you know the full moon is an opposition (from the Earth’s point of view) between the Sun and the Moon. The Sun entered Capricorn a few days ago on the winter solstice marking the official beginning of winter. The Moon is in the opposite sign of Cancer. The Cancer/Capricorn axis represents the archetype of the parental figures and energy of the mother (Cancer) and the father (Capricorn.)

These two signs also mark the beginning of seasons; Cancer is the beginning of Summer, Capricorn the beginning of winter, and energetically they bring us into the the fullness of expanding (outward)…
