March 18th through 19th of 2020: Sun in Pisces, Anaretic and Saturn in Capricorn, Anaretic
This is easy to miss; I almost did. As such, this entry is later than I would like (i.e., we have entered the 24 hour period as I write this).
The anaretic degree of any sign has been discussed at length. Specifically, it is the final degree of a sign before a planet moves into a new sign. Outer planets (capable of retrograde) may cross this region several times. Cafe Astrology has an excellent explanation of the anaretic degree. I will not duplicate their work except for a modification.
My original understanding of the anaretic degree came from a presenter at UAC ’98 (I think maybe Carol Wiggers, a William Lilly expert). She sold me on Lilly. While my depth of understanding is not “deep” in the ordinary sense of the word (except maybe for Lewi, who I read and re-read), my favorite astrologers are Grant Lewi, Dane Rudhyar, William Lilly, and Anthony Louis. Of these, only Louis is still alive, and he has a WordPress blog! Indeed, I have reblogged some of his most excellent content.
So, my point about the anaretic degree is this: if I understand Lilly correctly, he treated the final three degrees of a sign as “fated.” Free will might exist in other areas, but not in the final three, and especially not in the “anaretic” (or final) degree. Cafe Astrology, on the other hand, portrays the degree as “indecisive.”
The two viewpoints are not mutually exclusive (one could be indecisive because “fate” is actually driving the decision), but they are not necessarily the same, either. The analysis you are reading is based on this understanding of mine. (Lilly also called the first three degrees “too early to tell.” While Lilly strictly applied it to horary, I apply it to other areas and, in my opinion, it works.)
Let’s get started. Here is a head’s up of my main points:
- The five point stellium is obvious and does not differ significantly for the charts of entry of Sun into the anaretic degree (the entire focus of this entry) for charts for New York, Los Angeles, or Plano (my location). And, none of the regular patterns we look at (T-Square, Grand Trine, Grand Cross, etc.) are present in these charts.
- The most important thing is that BOTH the Sun AND Saturn are in anaretic degrees during this period. (That is unusual.) Specifically, the Sun is in the anaretic degree of Pisces (possibly the most powerful of all anaretic degrees since it is truly about endings) and Saturn is in the anaretic degree of Capricorn (its home!). Saturn MUST make a statement of some kind before it leaves home. And the Sun is in the same position as we close out one astrological year and start another.
- A triangular fifth harmonic pattern exists. I identify this will little commentary, preferring that others reblog my work and add their own commentary.
- A triangular seventh harmonic pattern exists. Again, I offer little commentary for the same reason as previous.
- I offer a number of maps. While all are interesting to some greater or lesser degree, only three are truly compelling: (1) Western Canada (which places both Saturn and Pluto on the Fourth House Cusp, sometimes called either the “final resting place” or, more explicitly, “the grave”); (2) China (and that would seem obvious, but seeing the astrological maps confirming it is noteworthy) and (3) the UK (again, obvious based on what is happening there but, again, seeing the astrological maps confirming it is noteworthy).
- The other maps DO have stories to tell, just not quite as much as Canada / China / UK.
- I think this set of charts might tell us more about what happening than the Vernal Equinox charts.. (But, the Vernal Equinox charts, via the Thor’s Hammer pattern, hint that some serious “unrest” could be facing us.)

The 5th harmonic connections of Mercury (communications and transportation), Venus (values and finances and sometimes health), and Astraea (law and legal matters) foretells possible innovations emerging from the coming difficulties. But Mercury ties into the Thor’s Hammer, so difficult lessons may face us first.

The connection of Juno (trust and betrayal), Saturn (often difficult and painful lessons), and the North Node (“fate” or “karma) using septiles (high order lessons involving karma that CAN produce breakthrough insights) seems to foretell the Thor’s Hammer of the coming Vernal Equinox.

We are still feeling the power of yesterday’s New Moon in Aquarius (and start of the Chinese New Year, the year of the Yang Fire Monkey). Today is dominated by Mars Trine Chiron and the early morning entry of the Moon into Pisces. Mars Trine Chiron is all about healing issues, and so can be the Moon in Pisces. With Moon in Pisces, “healing” can take the form of creativity (poetry, lyrics, photography, video) or anonymously helping others less fortunate than ourselves without any thought about some later benefit to ourselves.
Mercury forms a novile to Saturn, and we may learn an important skill involving details or paperwork. Vesta (traditions) is quite active: (1) Chiron semisextile Vesta; (2) Mars quincunx Vesta; and (3) Vesta triseptile the North Node. We have to address tradition and “doing things the way we have always done them,” and we continue to receive indications that some of those traditions are due for a makeover if not outright radical change.
New Moon and Winters Solstice of December 2014

The New Moon of December 21st has five planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Pluto, and Venus) and an asteroids (Vesta) in Capricorn. This collective is square to Uranus, Astraea, and the South Node (all in Aries). Uranus and Pluto are square less than one degree apart (15 minutes) having recently completed the exact square on December 14th. The level of emotion, most likely in the form of anxiety or anger, will likely be at fever pitch. Violence is possible, even likely. Arguments are nearly certain.
Capricorn moons are notoriously unforgiving at best. Both Hitler and Adam Lanza had Moon in Capricorn in their birth chart. (Researching this article, we found this fun link.)

We note that Saturn is in the final degree of Scorpio in both charts. This particular time is likely best spent in solitude planning for the new year. Another good use might be in something productive such as sculpting in clay. (Avoid use of sharp tools to sculpt due to the potential for injury.) The possibility exists that a skilled healer MIGHT could help a group work through negative emotions at this time.

Full Moon of December 6, 2014

We live in complex and troubling times. While that might could be said of any period of time (“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness”), we see a number of patterns activated during this full moon and are reminded of the disasters of 2010 (a series culminating in the Deepwater Horizon).
A number of astrologers have mentioned the ongoing series of Uranus / Pluto squares covering several years. We do not need to cover that again here, but we do need to note the important of the context that aspect provides in the following discussion. If everything was driven by loving trines, then maybe it would not matter. But, that’s not true. We have squares in general, and grand crosses and t-squares in particular. And we have Thor’s Hammer (aka God’s Fist) patterns. A rosetta and mystic rectangle tell us that we are (still) polarizing. (Duh, you easily read that in the news. But the astrology is consistent.) A large number of 5th order harmonics tells us we can find creative solutions. A large number of 7th order harmonics tells us that we are dealing with karma that insists that we find those solutions.
Step by step, here are the variants of the Full Moon Chart for December 6th of 2014.
1. Grand Cross and T-Square

If we allow ourselves to count the node, we have a long term grand cross that has been in play for some time and will continue. This grand cross is an extended vision of the famous Uranus / Pluto squares discussed elsewhere. It brings in the fate and karma of the North Node along with the issues of health, healthcare, and healing from the asteroid Hygeia. Though the node is technically not a “planet” (or asteroid or other body), we suspect that this method of approaching the current variant of the Uranus / Pluto square yields the most insight. We cannot ignore issues and disparities in our healthcare systems any longer.
The Full Moon combination of Sun/Moon has Chiron (the “wounded healer”) square to it. This is another signal that issues in health and healthcare must be dealt with, and Chiron blends in issues of education (particularly healthcare education, such as the training of healthcare professionals). Expect to see changes in healthcare education, starting in 2015 and beyond.
2. Grand Trines
We see a series of variants of a particular grand trine (Fire: Aries / Leo / Sagittarius) in this chart. Grand trines are usually stabilizing influences, but this is a FIRE grand trine. When tied in with the other aspects, what we see is that it likely provides an insistence on change and on the need for leadership in facilitating the needed change(s).

No matter which side you take on these current issues, you know that strong leadership is needed at this time. Few people can honestly believe that we can move forward from where we are without certain major changes in our system happening.
3. Kites
Kites sometimes occur with grand trines, and the signify opportunities. One of the strongest here involves the node (opportunity, but HARD WORK needed to manifest that opportunity), and the other integrates the full moon itself (and this means it is particularly tied to the days of December 5/6/7). Somebody will make some serious money from this, perhaps a HUGE windfall.

Since Jupiter / Uranus are involved in this second kite, this will be a time where we might see some huge “lotto” (figuratively if not literally) windfalls. Somebody will win big.
We would also argue that this interlaced pattern of kites constitutes the emergence of a new pattern, perhaps it could be called something like a “twin kite key.” (It looks a bit like a house, so it could be the “house that kites built.” But “twin kite key” is more succinct.)
4. Rosettas and Mystic Rectangle
We see two rosettas (highly polarizing in their influence) and a mystic rectangle (an odd mix of conflict in some areas but stability in others) in play in this full moon:

We note that both of these involve the North Node (“fate” and hard work).

The North Node is also involved here as well as the current full moon and Uranus. This combination likely indicates a fleeting but powerful opportunity; the window will close soon.
5. Square Key

Yet another pattern telling us of work to be done. Additionally, this pattern indicates that we may be dissatisfied with the results not being quite what we had hoped for. Sun / Uranus / Hygeia / Chiron in this pattern ties together the health and healing issues again.
6. 5th Order Harmonics
We see a number of 5th order aspects (quintiles and bi-quintiles) in this chart, telling us that creative solutions are available if we are open to receive them.

7. 7th Order Harmonics
We also see a number of 7th order harmonics. This tells us that we had better avail ourselves of the available creative solutions (and do the work necessary to make them happen) or “else.”

New Moon November 2014

Here is the New Moon chart for November 2014. At 0 degrees Sagittarius, this NM makes a statement (and it precedes the even stronger statement by the Capricorn NM at the Winter’s Solstice this year). Here is the basic chart:

We will leave the discussion of the significance of the NM at 0 degrees Sadge to others and focus on the patterns of aspects instead.
First, if one includes the asteroid Hygeia (health, healing, and healthcare) and the North Node (not a planet but an indicator of “karma” or “work to be done”), the continuing Uranus/Pluto square forms a grand cross (as discussed in an earlier post). We will not duplicate that post here but instead note that a great deal of “tension” to “get things done” will be felt at this time by many. Key issues will include unexpected events (Uranus) or hopefully insights regarding healing (Hygeia) and drugs or medications (Pluto, sometimes) and possibly some work that needs to be done involving the relationships between certain people. (Who? Only you, dear reader, can answer that based on your situation!)

Also mentioned previously are the grand trines in play (again, using asteroids), though now they are greatly reduced from when the Moon was in Cancer. Opportunities are still available, but the window is not as strong as earlier.

For someone “willing to do the work,” the payoff can be significant!
We also see the Thor’s Hammer (God’s Fist) pattern. Actually, we see TWO of them, which we call a “Thor’s Hammer Key.” (We note that all of these use asteroids. Neither is composed entirely of major planets.)
Some will feel urgency to take action, and this may be rash action that might include violence. Some things might go “boom.”

Avoid that same old cycle of unrealistic high hopes on January 1st followed by quitting on the third Monday in January (aka “Blue Monday”). This is your chance to do something different this year!
And if you are wanting to QUIT something (e.g. smoking), you will want to start “quitting” during the preceding period when the Moon is in Scorpio, especially on the evening of November 21st. (Dark of the Moon.)
If you are quitting smoking (or anything similar), go park yourself somewhere SAFE and AWAY from your usual environment for (a minimum of) three days (until the Moon is in Capricorn or beyond). Moon in Cancer in November of 2014: T-Squares and Grand Trines

The Moon in Cancer in November of 2014 creates a series of interesting (and contradictory!) patterns. On one hand, Moon will join with Uranus and Pluto (in the well known and often discussed Uranus/Pluto square pattern) to form a T-Square. On the other hand, the Moon will join with Mars and Neptune to form a Grand Trine (Grand Water Trine). The first causes conflict and energizes people to “take action” while the second tends to be gentler and more relaxed (and sometimes an opportunity to make a quite a bit of money).
We we examine the T-Square:

Moments of greatest tension occur when (1) Moon opposes Pluto, (2) Moon squares Uranus, and (3) Moon conjoins Hygeia (an asteroid governing health and health issues). If one counts the node (a point and not an actual body), then one might argue this is an (ongoing) grand cross.
Ordinarily, we would describe this period as being either “energetic” or “challenging” depending on how you use (or flow through) the energy. But a grand trine (a grand water trine) is in play as well! This pattern actually begins on November 9th (as we are writing the second part of this entry) and concludes later on the 10th.

Someone, maybe several someones, will see an incredibly opportunity during this period and convert it into some serious money. We note, also, that if one chooses to include Vesta, that a Grand Fire Trine is ALSO operative with Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Leo, and Vesta in Sagittarius. (Wow!) Double Thor’s Hammer Period of 2014 November 14

Full Moon November 2014

We see some indication that we may be entering a period of austerity (or a cold winter?) as Venus is between the Sun and Saturn (all in Scorpio) with Mars applying to conjoin Saturn (both in Capricorn). Saturn and Pluto continue in mutual reception, as has been true since 2012. Will be interesting to see what the financial markets do. We note that Mars and Vesta are semi-octile, and that might be the most important aspect during this full moon. (More discussion on this below after the Modulus Sort Strips.) We also note a Huber triangle involving Sun / Moon / Chiron (as shown in the next version of the chart).

Similarly important, Astraea (at 29 Pisces) is semi-square the Moon and Sesquisquare the Sun (in a pattern we have not seen named before but similar to a T-Square or arguably the Huber triangle). (This is all about some injustice that has NOT been resolved!)

One thing that benefits this full moon is that none of the planets are peregrine. The arabic parts generally look favorable as well.

We see a very busy group of midpoint trees. Here is the Modulus Sort strips, another way to identify relationships that may not otherwise be entirely obvious:

Notice that the last strip, the 22.5 strip, shows Vesta/Mars next to each other. This means that they are “semi-octile” with is a 16th Harmonic aspect. But, what does that mean? Discussions abound, and opinions vary.
My interpretation is that the semi-octile is a kind of “irritation,” a bit like the persistent annoyance of a pebble in the shoe that ultimately must be addressed.
With Vesta/Mars the two bodies joined by semi-octile, we suspect some people may be either quite irritable or outright enraged (possibly by some event near the FM). We will see some of this after the elections in the U.S., but they not a cause of the problem (the elections reflect other underlying problems). Any polarization that occurred with the Rosettas of October will more clearly emerge at this time. Remember, also, that on a much large scale we are choosing (collectively and individually) one of two major forks in the road (i.e. The Grand Yod).

We have indicated Mars/ Vesta in the 22.5 strip in this last graphic using deep red. (The 22.5 strip is the last in the series.) Two strips above it, the fourth in the series, is the 45 degree strip. Here, at the end, we see Sun / Moon / Astraea as noted using light blue. As mentioned before, this is about an injustice that is unresolved. Justice must be had here. Given the upcoming Thor’s Hammer days circa November 14/15, we shudder to think of what may happen if whatever coverup(s) have been going on are not exposed in a peaceful manner.
We also identify four (4) themes that emerge from four (4) Triseptiles during this period. (“Triseptiles” are higher order aspects that are difficult to interpret; those who do attempt to interpret them claim that they are “karmic” in nature.)
1. Jupiter BISeptile Ceres (and Ceres square Neptune): This is a large, higher order set of issues involving education and law (Jupiter), the food supply (Ceres), and healthcare & drugs (Neptune). Jupiter in Leo indicates that we can expect dramatic changes, Ceres in Sadge strengthens Jupiter’s role, and Neptune introduces a sense of urgency and annoyance as the solutions dissolve into failures (and lessons for better solutions in the future).
The full moon itself (Moon opposes Sun) is part of a Huber triangle involving Chiron (the “wounded healer,” another indicator of education and healthcare issues). This Sun / Moon / Chiron triangle will almost certainly activate the Jupiter / Ceres / Neptune pattern on a mundane level. (Maybe part of the key to dealing with the Ebola problem will involve education of healthcare workers?)
2. Juno BiSeptile Saturn: Issues and trust and betrayal collide with policies that may be too “bare bones” to protect those that should be protected. Change becomes necessary.
3. Pallas TriSeptile Uranus: in the low form, surprise attacks. In the high form, insights that result in breakthroughs, particularly technological breakthroughs. Given the nature of Pallas, some of these may be military in nature and the information not available to the public.
4. Vesta BiSeptile Astraea: Similar in many ways to #3. A push to address injustices boils to the surface. The Vesta / Mars semi-octile discussed earlier ties into this and is the “pebble in the shoe” that heightens the pressure to obtain justice and redress the wrongs.

In keeping with our production of charts for catastrophes happening in late October of 2014, here are the charts for the Virgin Galactic crash of Halloween 2014. The crash happened near the Mojave Air and Space Port near Mojave CA.

We note that this chart most closely resembles the Wichita KS plane crash yesterday and the rectified chart for the Marysville school shootings. (This chart more closely resembles those than it does the Orbital Sciences rocket explosion.) The horary version of the chart contains Sun Opposite Part of Catastrophe, as did the Wichita KS plane crash.

A few points are noteworthy. First of all, this chart resembles the chart of when “the first 911 calls came in” of the Marysville School shootings. Second, a remarkable number of Arabic Parts are activated, particularly by Neptune. We note that Saturn (restriction) touches the Part of Commerce (bad for Mr. Branson). (We like the Space program in all its variants, including the commercial ones, so we are saddened to hear this.)

Astrological Chart for Halloween 2014

Determining when to cast an Astro chart for a holiday can be a bit tricky. So, here is my approach for 2014:
1. U.S. only this year. The process is complex, and it needs to be simplified. Maybe next year we will do international.
2. Halloween (“Hallowed Evening”) is about darkness. (Actually, Halloween seems a big Jungian holiday in the sense that we are facing our own internal darkness or at least our “shadow.”) So, we look to see when the ENTIRE U.S. has been covered in darkness. (i.e. Sunset on the U.S.)
3. Roughly, the answer to #2 is “When does the Sun set in San Francisco?” (We opt for a major population center over some more “precise” point.)
4. Speaking of “precision,” this is an inherently IMPRECISE process, so wiggle room definitely applies.
5. Having cast the San Francisco chart, we look to see what is happening in other parts of the U.S. (and North America).
Step 1: United States Solar Map (based on San Francisco sunset, and we are actually using an approximate mid-point of Sun/Venus since they are close):

So, at this point (about 6:13 PDT), we note that the Sun Descendant line is in the Pacific Ocean just off of the coast of San Francisco. The remainder of the U.S. is either dark or watching the Sun set. Next is the same map, but with the hotspots marked by red circles.
We think that the Vesta Descendant line that picks up Omaha, Little Rock, Jackson MS, and New Orleans is particularly interesting. After all, wouldn’t the Keeper of the Hearth seem important on a holiday that celebrates bonfires (“bone fires“).

Steps 2 & 3: Chart for San Francisco:

We note that Sun / Venus are on the descendant. Moon has just crossed MC (Midheaven). This chart appears unremarkable, but if something “interesting” happened it was probably a little earlier, maybe up to an hour earlier. (At the point that puts Moon/Jupiter angular as they oppose each other.)
We pick San Francisco as the best place to party for Halloween 2014. (No doubt New Orleans will be also interesting, but for different reasons.)
Steps 4 & 5: What else is interesting?
One place that leaps OUT of the map is a point just south of New Mexico in northern Mexico. Since it involves Saturn / Chiron / Juno, I am guessing that it could be a bit disturbing. (i.e. Likely to be some kind of criminal operations, maybe large scale criminal operations!) Here is the chart for that area south of New Mexico (and West Texas):

(Ignore the “San Francisco” part and pay attention to the “relocated” part.) So, Border Patrol and ICE guys, are you listening? Note that Juno involves betrayal and double-crosses, so be EXTRA careful if you are in this region!
A number of other points are lit up, including Cheyenne WY, Omaha NE, and New Orleans. But particularly lit up is Washington DC! This is an important Halloween for DC! Here is the Washington DC Metro area chart:

(Again, ignore the “San Francisco” part and pay attention to the “relocated” part.) Note that Mars / Chiron / Jupiter are all actively in play with DC. Exactly what this means is not clear, but you can bet it probably involves at least as many tricks as it does treats!
We also note that the Pluto Descendant line passes through Maine, probably closest to Collinsport but probably not too far from Castle Rock or Miskatonic County in MA.

Plano Restaurant Shooting

Not a major event compared to rocket explosions and school shootings, but the restaurant shooting tonight was nearby and is similar to the charts for the recent school shooting, rocket explosion, and plane crash. (Arguably it was worse than the rocket explosion since life was lost at the restaurant shooting.)
So, in the name of consistency, here is the chart for that event as well. (Note that it was at virtually the same clock time, but different time zone, as the rocket explosion. Time for the event was obtained here.)

Apparently these individuals knew each other, but we do not know what they were fighting about or why one of them shot and killed the other. Plano is ordinarily an upscale type of town, thought of more like Santa Barbara than Camden. Also, we note that the time given here is at 2 Taurus. If the dispute that lead to the shooting began earlier, it may have occurred at 29 Scorpio (as with the other charts).
So, is it this Pallas / Sun / Venus / Saturn combination (all in Scorpio), when angular or in the twelfth house, that is so deadly? If so, why? (Would love to hear a few opinions on this.)
As an aside, this is starting to feel a bit like “The Darwin Awards.”
Astrology Chart for Wichita KS Plane Crash (2014-10-30)

We note another catastrophe, a plane crash, occurred today (2014 October 30). The chart has a remarkable resemblance to our rectified version of the recent Marysville school shootings. According this report, the crash “happened around 9:50 a.m.” (Our rectified chart for the recent Marysville school shootings is set at 9:47 EDT a few days earlier.) The same planets are in the twelfth house in both charts, except that the Moon has moved to 0 degrees Aquarius in today’s plane crash. (We note that virtually all of the preparations to depart likely occurred during a Capricorn Moon void of course.)

We note that this time, 9:50 EDT, places the ascendant at 29 Scorpio, a “fated” degree. (Perhaps we should relocate our School Shooting chart to use that same degree as well?)
Astrology Chart for Orbital Sciences Corp’s Antares rocket explosion

Here is the Astrology Chart for Orbital Sciences Corp’s Antares rocket explosion. We have used 6:22 PM EDT based on this article at CNN and this article at CS Monitor. (Our Atlas does not contain Wallops Island, VA, so we used nearby Temperanceville, VA.)

We note that Moon is besieged by Mars/Pluto and close to the midpoint of Mars/Pluto. Otherwise, the chart is curiously unremarkable (how oddly similar in that sense to the Marysville Shootings chart). We note that, except for the Moon, the planets of this chart (the rocket explosion) in the sixth house are essentially opposite themselves in the twelfth house of the Marysville chart. (This implies that they are astrologically connected, but how?)
Moon / Pluto are in an intercepted ninth house, Mars in the eighth (death), and Uranus (explosions) in the twelfth. Pisces / Virgo is intercepted (with Chiron/Neptune contained within Pisces).
Exactly what led to this explosion is not clear. But the chart does tend to indicate that things could have been MUCH worse had the launch been later (after 7 PM is particularly bad). So close to the Eclipse / Mercury Direct Station of a few days ago, we can interpret that somehow this event was “overdue.” (Perhaps this is true because of the source of the engines.) Still, we interpret this chart as an event that could have been far worse. (We applaud whoever in the firm had safety checks in place that prevented any loss of life.)
The horary version of this chart is slightly more interesting. We note that the Arabic Parts of (1) Danger or Peril and (2) Fatality are activated by asteroids.

Marysville School Shootings

The Marysville school shootings occurred the day after the New Moon and the day before the Mercury Direct Station, sandwiched between the two. After some of the earlier activity (Rosetta and so forth), an event of this kind is not surprising.
What seems a bit odd, however, is the timing. (Why sandwiched between the Eclipse and the Direct Station? Midpoints of some kind?)

As one can easily see, it is a bit of a messy chart. But we expect that most of the key events have occurred once 911 calls start happening. Consequently, a rectified chart seems in order. (This situation seems commonplace in school shootings and certain other similar tragedies.)

The 12th house often represents victims, and in this chart it is full. (Compare this to the Boston Marathon Bombing chart. There, the 7th has Neptune and Chiron (the house of “open enemies” has the two brothers), and the 8th house (the “death house,” and one of the three water houses, along with the 12th and the 4th) has a stellium.) We also note that this chart (Saturn rising) has the 12th house cusp at 29 Scorpio (the most “fated” degree of that sign).
Leo / Aquarius are intercepted here, and Jupiter is within the interception. Curiously, Jaylen Fryberg (the shooter) had been elected “Homecoming Prince.” (Leo is associated with “royalty,” and intercepted signs or houses are (severely) distressed.) Juno (trust and betrayal) is also nearby in Leo (and intercepted as well). Both Jupiter and Juno are in the 9th house of schools.
We also see Chiron (the Wounded Healer) just past the 4th house cusp (typically “home” but also graves and “final resting place”), and Neptune approaching it. (Again, compare this to the Boston Marathon Bombing chart. Both charts have Chiron/Neptune at Angular positions. Also, compare this chart to that of the Sandy Hook shootings.)
Since this is nearly an hour prior to the first 911 calls, we are guessing that the true “beginning” of the event was when the text messages were initially sent, and that the shooter began sending the text messages to “invite” the victims to “lunch.” We also note that, on a somewhat larger scale, Saturn is moving into an opposition with Algol.

Still, this chart lacks the clarity of some other charts we have analyzed. (We had a similar question regarding location on the much cleaner West, Texas Explosion chart.) In many ways, this chart (and event) remain an enigma.
(We add, in parting, that Sun (peregrine, a thief) is quincunx (false hopes) Astraea (justice).
Translation: an injustice that will possibly never be resolved.)
Perhaps certain details will always remain a mystery.
New Moon October 2014 (Solar Eclipse)

The New Moon (and Solar Eclipse) of October 23rd proves to have an interesting chart. With an eighth house stellium in Scorpio when set here in Plano as well as Mars near Midheaven (MC), we expect the potential for some intense power struggles and intense transformations.
This intense eclipse is not entirely a surprise, given the recent “Grand Yod” of August and September (and effectively continuing to exert influence through November and into 2015), the Kite of October 5th through 12th (earlier this month), and Rosettas, Mystic Rectangle, and Thor’s Hammers that followed the kite.
Astrologically speaking, October 2014 has been a busy month. And, this Solar Eclipse, producing a New Moon Stellium in Scorpio (in the eighth house in Plano, where the chart was cast), is no exception.
Maybe this year Halloween should fall on the 23rd!

We see traditional planets Venus and Saturn joining the Sun/Moon in Scorpio and (local to Plano) in the eighth house. Asteroids Ceres (food, food supplies, and issues of prosperity and famine) and Pallas (Justice and legal battles) are also part of this stellium. NASA has provided a map of the path of the eclipse. Per TimeAndDate.com, this eclipse will be visible in New York City near sunset. Wikipedia also has a page dedicated to this eclipse, replete with animations.
From a Solar Maps vantage point, the United States map is particularly interesting. The corridor of the east coast from NYC to Boston is particularly affected by this eclipse. Other planetary lines (Pluto / Node / Mercury) affect North Carolina and South Carolina. A Mars line passes North to South through Shreveport, Louisiana (see, also, this link) and points due north of Shreveport (through Canada). Des Moines IA is also affected by the same line that affects Shreveport.
A Jupiter line passes through Los Angeles, bringing likely prosperity to that region. (This might be in the form of rain, literally.) That same Jupiter line intersects Vesta a few hundred miles east of Boise ID. (So, this point east of Boise ID would be great to hold some kind of “brainstorming” conference.)
Given that the motion picture industry is centered in Los Angeles, but important productions are now being made in Shreveport, we have to wonder what kind of the collaborations between the two are going to emerge over the course of the next year (or at least until the next eclipse).

The Chiron / Neptune crossing south of Albuquerque NM indicates a need to resolve certain issues. (This might be an important turning point for the CNVC. Happy 80th birthday to Marshall Rosenberg.)
We see an Astraea line passing near the center of Atlanta GA (and that emphasizes, at this time, any linkages Atlanta has to Paris, France). We also note a Ceres line (Ceres at Midheaven) going through Vancouver and points north of Vancouver.

While the state of Connecticut does not have any crossings, it does have THREE lines passing through this relatively small region (Sun, Moon, and Venus). We expect the eclipse to be particularly “viewable” here near sunset, and we also expect this region to be strongly affected by the eclipse.

The West Indies are highly affected by this eclipse. A number of lines run through Cuba. Puerto Rico is HIGHLY affected by a concentration of the same lines that affect Connecticut (Sun, Moon, and Venus), but closer together (and, therefore, a bit amplified). The Bahamas and Jamaica are affected by close alignment of the Mercury / Node lines. (Interpretation of Mercury / Node: “it is fate that something must be said.”)

In the UK and Europe, we expect Latvia to be most highly affected, but the region including Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Belorus will be affected. Paris is also affected.

As regular reader Caroline wrote: “I have done the eclipse chart for Bristol and you may be interested to know that Astraea is 01aries 22 9th house side to the eclipse MC of 01aries49.” We see Astraea at MC for Paris, France. Note that this activates any linkages to Atlanta GA as being important at this time. And it also means that questions of Justice will be particularly important for these regions.
We also note that a Uranus (Prometheus) MC (Midheaven) line directly affects Munich, Germany. Given the rest of this chart, we expect profound events occur here. We hope that these will be in the high form (powerful insights and scientific breakthroughs) rather than the low form (explosions). Either or both could occur. Germany is generally associated with Scorpio, so we expect that Germany is now at a critically important turning point (that may not fully manifest until after the Mercury Direct Station.

First of all, we note that almost all of the “-stans” in the region, from Pakistan to Kazakhstan, have a Chiron on the Descendant line passing through them. They are feeling pain and wounds (perhaps wounded egos or maybe physical wounds or fiscal wounds or all of these) and will be sensitive at this time. The part of India that borders Pakistan is picked up by this also. Otherwise, India is mostly untouched by this eclipse.
Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Malaysia pick up the Node / Mercury lines similar to the Bahamas / Jamaica lines described earlier. (Essentially these are slightly different variations of the same line. Interpretation of Mercury / Node: “it is fate that something must be said.”) As with Atlanta / Paris, communications between this region and the corresponding region in the West Indies may prove to be important.
Particularly powerful are the lines that pass through Northern China (near Japan), Taipei, the northern edge of the Phillipines, and the eastern edge of Indonesia. These lines correspond to the lines passing through New York, Connecticut, and (other) parts of New England. These are the Sun / Moon / Venus lines from the eclipse, and they bring powerful changes to these regions.

Full Moon of October 8th (October 2014 Full Moon)

We see the Moon in Aries opposing the Sun in Libra, which is what we expect at this time of year. Several things make this FM interesting. First of all, Pluto in Capricorn squares it, which greatly heightens the tension. Some of the people born at this time will be quite remarkable, judges, or generals, or maybe serial killers. If you use asteroids in your interpretations, then we see Hygeia (healthcare and health issues) in Cancer in opposition to Pluto in Capricorn. I would not be surprised to see HMO’s or some similar kind of healthcare issue pop up in the news. (We already have the Ebola discussion, but this involves something financial, such as why Big Pharma has not funded much (any?) research on developing a vaccine for Ebola.)
[Update: Thomas Eric Duncan dies on this date (less than two hours after culmination of the full moon), spurring much debate about the healthcare system. NY Times Article. ]
Another condition that makes this FM interesting is that Mercury is retrograde. Some things really are “coming to a head” or to a “boiling point” with this FM and some people will decide that “something must be done.” We may see some kind of important breakthrough about six days after the FM as Mercury moves backwards to conjoin Pallas. Alan Lin describes Pallas as the “Goddess of Applied Intelligence.” We may not see a good window to fully apply this breakthrough until after the New Moon and possibly until after Mercury turns direct.
All of that SHOULD be enough, but we note, also, that a Grand Fire Trine is in play: Moon and Uranus together in Aries, Jupiter in Leo, and Mars (and Vesta!) in Sagittarius. This provides the inspiration to “get things done” but does have the danger of “much talk and no action.” Whether or not action occurs depends on Pluto (finances) in this case. If you decide to become enthusiastic about something, pick a project (or projects) that have the resources (money) to actually be done. Otherwise it will all be much ado about nothing.
Like one of those late night television advertisements, here is where we say “but, wait! That’s not all!” Remember that rare (and USEFUL!) Quintile Kite that we keep talking about! Well, that happens the NEXT DAY on October 9th. Use this surplus of energy (FM, Grand Cross, Grand Trine) on a project that is feasible (Pluto in Capricorn) and funnel those energies into creative solutions (Pallas, Vesta, Quntile Kite). Solving problems involving healthcare issues are especially favored. And, keep in mind that you may hit some bumps in the road. You may not see progress until after the New Moon or even after Mercury makes the Direct Station (October 21st).
Apparently some of you do like the maps (I received some feedback about this). Keep in mind that what I put up, or say, depends on feedback. 1,000 visitors and no one comments about maps means that no one is interested and I take them down. (And, yes, that kind of thing can easily happen. This site sees roughly 12,000 to 13,000 visitors per year currently, so 1,000 visitors can easily come through in a month. A month with no comments leads me to believe that I do not have much interest in what I am doing and I expend my time and energy elsewhere.)

This is a very active map, but it only has one noteworthy crossing. We see lines through Denver, Albuquerque, and Nashville. Eastern Seaboard is lit up with a complex collection of lines with Boston and Philadelphia particularly affected. But most interesting of all is the crossing of lines a few hundred miles due east of San Francisco. If I had to pick an “interesting” place to be (in the U.S.) on this full moon, I would pick San Francisco or more specifically that spot a bit east of there. Interesting “things” may happen there. (But, even more interesting, see Trondheim, below.)
Regarding the map of Europe, we first see a Vesta line through the UK, approximately on the border between Scotland and England. Looks like things there may not be quite settled. And, since Vesta (THE “warrior goddess”) is involved, and on the Ascendant, we may see the UK become involved (decisively!) in a military action. What I am saying is that they may decide to strike. And, if they do become so focused, they will pretty much obliterate the enemy, whoever that is. (Ouch!)

Something equally troubling is brewing in Poland (I do not read the news there, so I do not know what), and we see this with the Mars line coming so close to Warsaw. Lithuania is similarly activated, and we see Austria, Italy, and several other countries “picked up” by this Mars line. Sun and Moon lines are near Berlin and prominently influence the Czech republic as well. Not sure how Germany will handle this, but I bet that change is “afoot.” I think that Germany CAN use this time/energy to make their financial position EVEN STRONGER. (And, to be sure, they are very strong.)
Even more interesting is how the already powerful financial juggernaut of Norway has a Vesta/Venus crossing! Wow! If I could move to Norway and start a career there, then I would be tempted to do just that! This is really the place to be, maybe even more than Germany. Trondheim is VERY strong. (Refer to Map.) All of Scandinavia is treated quite well by this FM, but Norway is particularly strong (with Sweden very close)!
(Too bad Trondheim is not a sister city to Plano!)
The complex of lines through Southeast Asia, including Cambodia and Viet Nam, is really too complex to interpret. This may be the most highly activated area in the world currently, and the unrest could break out into some kind of war, possibly something similar to a civil war. The instability is really difficult to describe. Also worrisome is the triple line crossing at the northernmost edges of India and Pakistan. Involving Chiron (old wounds), Neptune (deception and misunderstanding), and Mars (violence and war), “things” could become very dicey here as well.

The Jupiter / Vesta crossing in Eastern Iran indicates some kind of powerful opportunity there for someone who knows how to take advantage of it. Here is a “zoomed out” map of SE Asia:

Australia is far quieter than these other parts of the world. However, Sydney and Newcastle may be experiencing some odd kinds of problems with their food supplies this spring. (This is spring in Australia, and that is probably a good excuse to go visit.) Perth is also activated, but a Pallas Descendant line is likely to be beneficial: certain individuals (and maybe teams) in Perth has an opportunity to innovate solutions that may not be obvious to others.
Autumnal Equinox, September 2014: the First Day of Fall

The Autumnal Equinox of 2014 occurs on September 22nd at 9:29 CDT this year (Plano, TX). (In other areas, such as the United Kingdom, it will occur on September 23rd in the early morning hours (0229 GMT)). It is followed two days later by a new moon (Libra / Aries). We will cover both in this entry.
First, the chart (set in Plano TX):

We note that the Moon is very old and (predictably) near the Sun. Venus is between them and would be “besieged” if the Sun and Moon were malefics (which they are not). This places Venus on or near the mid-point of Sun and Moon and is arguably a favorable placement. Moon is slightly past an opposition to Chiron and and an earlier opposition to Neptune (both in Pisces) earlier than that.
Before we go further with our analysis, let us make clear that you should wrap up certain kinds of business (only you know the precise details) before this change in the sign of the Sun. This period is definitely about clearing out and letting go. Given the nature of the Full Moon (FM) earlier this month, this may mean fully releasing any remaining hopes of clinging to whatever path you chose to NOT follow when the time of the FM offered you a choice (or series of choices). Whatever it is that you chose NOT to do, it is GONE now. Trying to preserve it or “hang on” to it will only cause you problems and pain. CLEAR THINGS OUT.
Some of you had a “fling” earlier in September when Venus opposed Neptune (probably the weekend of September 12th). If you had a painful awakening later (Venus opposite Chiron), and that romance was ill-chosen, then CUT IT OFF. Cut your losses. Do not string that person along. And if you lost money on the romance (or venture), then do NOT think for a minute you are likely to get your money back. File the pictures you took in your scrapbook. Move forward.
If you are leaving a job at this time, start your start day for the new job AFTER the New Moon (next chart). Take a little time off to regenerate.

Here is the United States map. We note that Northern Nevada has an unusually high number of lines passing through it. (Looking for a place to spend the Equinox that should be transformative? Try Las Vegas or Reno (Reno is slightly stronger in this particular case) for Fall Equinox 2014! Note, though, that we said “transformative” and did not further qualify that statement as either “good” or “bad.”)

We note that Los Angeles and Southern California are affected, also, but the effect is not as strong as in Northern Nevada. With Uranus (Prometheus) on the Ascendant, we would not be surprised to see huge gains/losses at the gambling tables. (But, anything goes!)

A few of you will ignore the the earlier recommendation that “this period is definitely about clearing out and letting go.” In that case, some of those who ignore that advice will have a “reminder,” possibly an unpleasant reminder, to clear out the old. Given the position of the Sun/Moon conjoined in the first degree of Libra, this will likely have one of two outcomes. The first will be a potential for violence. The damn will burst. (This depends on the charts of the individuals involved.) The other outcome is the extreme opposite: prolonged negotiations that seem to go nowhere resulting in “a death by a thousand blows.” You will WANT progress but be unable to attain it, stuck by the lingering garbage of the previous period. (This could be in the form of a bankruptcy, possibly for some of those gambling in Las Vegas or Reno.)
A few of you, wisely, will decide to relocate at this time.
While any given chart, or pair of charts, contains many potential “lessons,” the “lessons” of these two are clear: CLEAN HOUSE (literally and figuratively) before this time arrives.
Chances are good we will add updates between “now” (the time of the initial posting) and the time of the events. (This has become our practice in the last year or two.)

Friday September 12th: Mercury Quincunx Chiron
Sunday September 14th: Venus Trine Pluto
Wednesday September 17th: Venus Opposite Chiron
Sunday September 21st: Venus Sextile Saturn; Mars Square Neptune
Monday September 22nd Pluto Direct Station (within two hours of Equinox)
Tuesday September 23rd: Jupiter Quincunx Chiron! (About eight hours prior to the New Moon)
Thursday September 25th: Jupiter Trine Uranus
This is an active and complex time. The Mercury / Jupiter / Chiron quincunxes indicate yet another “fork in the road.” Venus is in a number of aspects, and this emphasizes in a general way an examination of values.
More specific situations may emerge: careers in the arts may be launched or reach turning points during this period. Great works of art may be produced. (See, also, our entry about The Quintile Kite of October 9th 2014.) If you have any interest in art, if you have thought about the possibility of being a professional artist, this will be your chance to “jump ship” and take on that challenge.)
Children born during this period will tend to see alternative viewpoints; they may have a tendency to break with tradition because they tend to embrace multiple perspectives. They will face a bit of a curse in that they are never quite satisfied. (But, this may drive them to produce great accomplishments!)

September 2014: The Grand Yod

As much as possible, I try to stick to the technical aspects of astrology on this blog. That means I avoid editorials. But, tonight, I am compelled to write an editorial.
I believe that we (collectively and individually) stand at a critically important fork in the road. It began in August and will continue at least through the end of September. (Actually, it is a much larger period.) I call this period the “Grand Yod of 2014.” What makes it “grand” is the involvement of outer planets, namely Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto. For some, the Full Moon of Monday September the 8th will be a particularly intense point.
Important to note is the fact that many of us often face turning points in our lives. But this one will be more noteworthy than most. The outcome is difficult to see. I can only tell you that we will be disappointed with the results regardless of which fork in the road we choose. So, keep detailed notes for the time being. For now, nothing is trivial. Everything is important. Take pictures. Make video. Cherish your friends and loved ones. And remember, someday, to tell yourself that you made the best decision that you could given the information that was available to you.
For myself personally, I have been ill lately. I seem to be recovering, but the astrology tells me to take NOTHING for “granted” at this time. Here in North Texas we are experiencing the beginning of “ragweed season” which is really a period in which an amalgam of pollen causes a fair amount of difficulty to certain members of the population. Runny noses are the problem for those that are younger, but the problems can become more pronounced with age. Frankly, allergic reactions affect the immune system, and that can lead to more serious problems in some cases.
Outside of North Texas, in places such as the Middle East and the former Soviet Union, problems that are likely worse than disease inciting pollen seem to be infecting the air. Many of us pray for peace and for justice.
If you are wondering whether or not you have chosen the right path for your life, then realize that this is a time in which you can shift from one path to a different one. The choice is yours.
