First: this group of aspects terrifies me. Saturn square Uranus, by itself, has much to say and affects many people over significant periods of time, a minimum of seven years but probably much longer, twenty one years or more. But, more is present.

This New Moon has a number of interesting patterns. Also, Jupiter is at 29 Aquarius (The “Anaretic Degree“), a place where making decisions can be difficult. This position for Jupiter also means that Jupiter is “fated” according to some, and will soon move into “too early to tell.”

    • My preference is to err on the side of a bit too much information instead of too little. Let me know how to further clarify my points. My goal with this site is to teach others about forecasting. It is more of a “learn how to fish” site than “be given a fish” site. That said, we use the “Beginners Page” on most of our charts so that you can translate the glyphs into English. After some time, you will know that the circle with the dot in the center is the Sun, but at first it can be confusing and the tables (and practice) should help with this. (Make certain you “click to enlarge,” or even right click into a new tab to better see the chart image. If necessary, you can use and “+” key together to enlarge the image in most browsers.)

      Also, you can use the tags to look up similar charts and then look for similarities in the different days. You can compare Sun square Uranus to Sun square Neptune, and, over the years, you can compare different full moons to each other. Using the tags for searches should help with this. Let me know if you have other questions. I also encourage people to keep a journal of some kind, and use that as part of the process of learning how to interpret aspects. You can read all the books you want, but until you see mass confusion in a pizza parlor at the perfection of Moon square Neptune (as I did the first time I became truly aware of it back in the late 1980’s) then you will not REALLY understand. There is no substitute for experience and practice.

I know the glyphs of the planets and signs but need to learn more about nodes, Chiron, Black Moon Lilith and houses. And of course more about all the planets and aspects, it all makes so much sense and is so helpful in understanding what the heck is going on with the energies, my life, people around me, the world.

  8. CAN YOU PLEASE PLEASE put the GMT times up for things – you have an international audience !
    I have just tried to convert EST to GMT for mercury going V OC and got 3 03am whereas my raphael’s says Moon is sextile Mercury @ 02 03 am ie an hour earlier ………..

    Plus as ppl differ , what do YOU consider V OC to mean ? – only the traditional ptolemaic aspects or do you count the newbies eg quintiles ….?

    I had not really thought of planets going VOC before : I like it

    • I will see what I can do about GMT, but Daylight Savings Time often causes problems. (What is Raphaels?)
      You are right, VOC has several ways to calculate. Several complex older ways are only used by traditionalists who follow Medieval techniques (I think Lee Lehman might do this). Most modern astrologers use the last Ptolemaic aspect before a sign change (conjunction, opposition, square, trine, sextile) and that is what I use (using both Solar Fire 7/8 as sources and Daily Planetary Guide; they use the same methods). Nobody I know of uses 5th harmonic (quintiles / biquintiles) or 7th harmonic (septiles, etc.) or semi-squares / sesquiquadrates. (But, I think that “voids” that contain these are “interesting.”)

        I think its VERY important you distinguish between your stuff and other ppl’s stuff in reblogs. …..perhaps you could actually start all reblog titles ? with the word reblog. At the mo’ emails come up saying grandtrines and its confusing when I only want to open yours .

        various other “technical ” “site” arrangements are a good improvement as well , thank you ….. – especially as you seem to be giving us more pearls in the process !

      • Actually, I do have a standard format that I follow for titles that varies little, something like “New Moon 2016-06-04 Grand Cross” which breaks down to (1) Aspect (usually) or sign entry (rare); (2) date in YYYY-MM-DD format; and (3) Patterns (if present, and I do not usually write about it if it does not have patterns); so if you look for titles with my format usually you should be able to distinguish mine from the reblogs. I have not been writing as much lately but that was typical in the past as well. (Indeed, at some points I went a month or two without writing anything.)

    • Also important: I am a lone author and publisher (via reblogs I have become an accidental amateur publisher who actually enjoys that unpaid role) who has no assistant. And, as a card-carrying AARP member and older adult I have all the aches and pains and other problems that old folks get. (As Betty White is reputed to have said: “growing old ain’t for sissies.”)

      My response time, therefore, ranges from immediate to a “eventually” (maybe a week or longer, sometimes months). One day I will die, and then the response time will get “very long.”

      You COULD contact my “Customer Service Department,” but since I have to handle that, too, “they” might not be much help. (Even worse, I am the archetypal “grumpy old man” in real life who has a gift for driving away any potential “friends” with my endless bitching and complaining, also called “kvetching” in New Jersey and parts of Florida.)     • I think it is a WordPress problem. I have isolated to pages that I re-schedule. The way this happens is that I publish my own pages, reblog the pages of others, and then re-schedule my pages so my readers see them first (so they are not buried among the other pages). Apparently WordPress somehow embeds date /time information in the links (not sure how) but is not “smart enough” to adjust that information when a page is re-scheduled. This is just a GUESS on my part as to what is happening. But, in any case, it is my best guess.

  13. ptolemaic – fine , that seems to be the preferred , and so what I use ……yes , I have come across ppl who count minor aspects …..they often have arguments about it …cant recall any names now. Having said that I have experienced the moon working when I didn’t think it would , and been caught out by it and no I don’t mean when in sag.
    this working may = what you refer to above as interesting …..

    sesquiquadrates are dangerous . IMO totally wrong they r usually referred to as minor in astrological circles

    “raphael’s astronomical ephemeris of the planets’ places for [2015] “they are small and thin u can carry them around easily and leave the 50 year tomes @ home…
    Also very useful for seeing what is coming up in progressions if u have one for the relevant year ..{day for year type}

    Ps I just discovered brill astrologer Robert Blaschke and he’s dead :its dreadful. All that wisdom gone Thank god for utube incidently if u want to leave a legacy u shd put stuff up on there too ….and u don’t have to be seen , u can fill screen with charts or important points

    • I will check on Raphael’s. You are right about YouTube; I have done a very few videos on it. And I agree about Sesquiquadrates being dangerous. (They are what the Thor’s Hammer is built from.) I think you are also right about the Moon sometimes working during so-called “voids” (other than what Lee Lehman / Jim Shawvan calls “opportunity periods”). However, I seem unable to identify and predict what is a functional void. As an aside, glad to see you are back. Missed our dialogs.

  30. can you suggest how mercury void of course plays out ……I’m assuming weakened.
    ineffective to some extent.

    ALSO , in that case does mercury also carry the light of the last planet / star passed …………??? …..cos its just passed conjunct Algol ..

    IF we can say it also “carries the light ” then perhaps ?? its just as well its V O C – assuming that weakens it ……

    • Wow! ALL really good points. Mercury DID just touch Algol (likely three times if you look at the retrograde). And, yes, it is void (from early Friday AM here / about 9 AM where you are) until Sunday (about 6 PM here / near midnight where you are). Maybe THAT is why people were so NUTS in traffic yesterday. (That includes some near misses for me and a very dangerous road rage nut job yesterday!) Good questions! (Thanks!)

    • Depends on the planet, but reading between the lines I think you have a point. Algol is so potent that maybe it needs wider orbs. I tend to use +/- 3 for Sun/Moon 1 or 2 for the rest (depending on what else is involved).

      • I think we have talked about “the lights” before. They actually show up as symbols outside of astrology with no mention of Sun or Moon but merely the “Greater Light” and the “Lesser Light” left as an enigma. Algol is a mess, and we could talk about it at length. Some people with mid May birthdays have accomplished major works that (in my opinion) have been beneficial to humanity (George Lucas springs to mind, May 16th, and I would also include social psychologist Roy Baumeister, also May 16th, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Baumeister), but typically it is associated with much that is simply awful.     • Those are great questions. Sometimes I manually structure the order of the reblogs to achieve this (and other) results. (For example, people who do not publish “predictions” until the middle of the day, or later, are usually reblogged FIRST to put them at the bottom of the list (least read). That prevents wasting the time of my readers on something that often is, literally, “yesterday’s news.”) But the process is imperfect. Most (usually all) of my entries can be found on the Grandtrines homepage; that is the easiest way to go directly to them. That page is composed almost entirely of my work with only links (usually) to external work. Hope that helps.

  34. can you PLease have 2 comment sections then ? if you can restructure ? and sort the remarks as you vet them ?

    nb I was doing a remark about astro and VOC and it all went so pissed off. IT mentioned my neighbour having a go @ me on 20th so maybe someone didn’t like it … this is not a “clean” lapbook at mo’……

    Briefly It was on the subject of can we consider THE SUN itself ever to be VOC.
    Also , about starting seasonal ingresses with VOC.. ….. (If I can recall the detail I’ll repost)

    • Yes, of course Sun can be v/c, and it does exactly that for some short period of time about once a month. People (including me) do not tend to mention it much, but I usually mention it when a double void occurs (e.g. Sun + Moon or Sun + Mercury or something similar).

      I have no control over the sort order of comments, and I have seen them out of sequence also but, apparently, only WordPress can control that.

  35. So if you think other planets apart from moon can be VOC ( query re sun answer still pending ) THen

    do you think they can “carry the light ” also ? that was the real gist of my query re Algol
    ( – which is a star not planet , so we are already deviating from original meaning , I think, as I think carrying the light referred to going moon over other planets , not stars )

    IF they don’t ” carry the light ” like the moon , then 2 or 3 degrees after Algol ie by c. 29 degrees taurus , everything is “safe”

    • I have heard of a technique that traditionalists use called ‘translating light” (and, based on that, a late 20th century / 21st century technique called “translating darkness”), but I do not use it nor do I understand it well. (It has something to do with two planets moving into the same aspect with a third planet.) Except possibly for that, only “The Lights” actually carry light in the metaphorical astrological sense. (Everything has SOME kind of light, otherwise we could note see / detect it. But I do not think you are talking about literal light in that sense.)

      • my current hunch on this , is , that the faster moving planet does somehow also “carry the light” and thereby for a while some influence on from the last planet they went over , and this wd certainly also apply to carrying light from stars (that obviously send out their own light albeit minimal by time it reaches our solar system) and the question is for how long … …
        On this basis the moon goes fast so it cd carry light quite far in a short time before running out of it , losing it , or somehow cleaning up ,so moon over pluto wd need to be watched out for for awhile and so if this moon then very soon passes over something there would be a negative tinge to the contact.. .. …
        also sorry bit of a newbie post , brain cells creaky re astro and a thread from long ago ………..

I got grand trines @ twitter about page 9 , thru which I could find you , but that does not give the homepage but an article. As you don’t have a “home page ” listed as such , I give up.

  40. As I understand it , “carrying the light” is when the moon goes over a planet , it , as a mirror , picks up the “light” from that planet , which then “colours” the stuff the moon reflects and so the way the moon “works” ……
    Therefore , if the moon has just recently been over pluto , eg , it will have a plutonic tinge to it when it does its next aspect or triggers something or is just sailing along …..so the moon is never entirely neutral , or just carrying the sun’s light – as it obviously does all the time, it can carry different energies too
    If it goes over venus this should give a benefic or more feel good emotional kick to people for a bit . Light being a synonym for energy
    I am possibly extrapolating from the meaning in horary , ( which may not be legitimate to do) as a self taught astrologer

    My query was in that case , can mercury eg be coloured temporarily in this way too ? IMO probably yes , but n/k
    on this basis , if saturn had just passed over pluto , you could expect problems…..the structural energies in the background would have a doomladen feel…….not a good time to build things.
    you could say this is “orbs ” , but I mean more than that. saturn wd carry a tinge until the moon came along and cleaned it up

    [ “Translation of the light” is a horary term and seems IMO very symbolic in its usage / meaning to denote that something happens or is completed with help , a thing is picked up from A and is then taken to B indicating the matter happens ]

    • I have heard of “translating light” (and also “translating darkness”) but “carrying the light” is new to me. That sounds like an interesting concept to explore. In particular, your idea that the Moon may be a bit different from all the other planets in this respect is paritcularly interesting. Are these your own ideas or do you have sources for them?

  41. thank you xxx I read things from all over ( in both time and specialist area )and so put stuff from different places together. As I am self taught I have no idea what is currently the “correct” thing to do / person to rate / concept considered valid / or ” how” to put things together.
    So I just use what makes sense and works , and read the intelligent people that make sense to me and I try new things out. Obviously I have experience eg of things happening with certain aspects etc. and so on , so I have my own opinions from that….IMO there has been a move to sanitise the subject to stop it being scary to the great detriment of good astrology. Older stuff is frequently more reliable due to dealing with reality as it does. Comets are indeed bad news….I think the reason chiron always comes with Pain is because its astronomically both a comet and an asteroid……
    – while I’m not a bernadette brady I do feel its good to look at the actual astronomy to help decipher the symbolism.
    I can’t stand “fluffy”… too many ppl do fluffy astrology blogs which are all nice and lovey dovey everythings allright this fullmoon is good for selfdevelopment when really its a stinker and you wonder : why do they bother ? Its not morally sound to tell ppl they will “grow” with being hacked by a chainsaw either. Ppl need help to know how to survive. They need the truth and useful strategies not self-congratulatory whimsy.
    BUT you know that. Which is why I’ve been reading your views on aspects etc and learning !
    The moon is a key player as any decent astrologer knows : you could almost do nothing but moon stuff and produce meaningful comment . I like lunar returns eg.

    ps please work on bringing back your maps ! They were lovely for showing how the same aspect plays out differently in different places in the world.

    • The timeline does change, no doubt about it. No conflict between that and my approach. Often the aspects represent “nodal points” where we can “jump ship” to a different timeline. At least that is my own opinion. Thanks for stopping by!

      • The idea is pretty simple, really, assuming you have a multiple universe viewpoint. The only reality is “consciousness” (i.e. a “soul”) and all the rest of it simultaneously exists at various levels of probability / possibility. All possible pasts exists as well as all possible futures. But certain cosmic alignments (i.e. transits and bigger patterns built from transits) represent nodal points at which “jumping ship” (changing timelines) becomes “more possible.” In this sense, astrological interpretation becomes not only meaningful but also virtually impossible for “science” to detect in any meaningful way. (Karl Popper’s Falsifiability simply cannot work in this framework, and we are obviously in alignment with Paul Karl Feyerabend. Our epistemology is obviously quite different from the “mainstream.”) Astrology is also not the “only” way to detect nodal points in the timeline. A well trained sensitive can pick up nodal points using other “oracles” such as tarot cards and runes. The purpose of my blogs is to provide training to sensitives who are in the process of awakening to their abilities. Even though I often write to a broader audience, it is these awakening sensitives (or intuitives, I use the terms interchangeably) that I am writing to. It is to them I am passing my essence through my writings.

      • Well, to be honest, I am not a finished product. Similar to others (Rimbaud comes to mind), the way I see things differs at different points in life. That said, you do realize that you are touching directly upon Sigmund Freud’s core notions, right? Freud “sexualized” almost everything because he was really talking about what might be described (perhaps with an incorrect choice of words) as a “creative force” in the universe that manifested as a sexual urge (but also in many other ways). It was only later in life that he discovered Thanatos thus completing a variation on what the Taoists (Yin / Yang, or Creation / Destruction) had been telling us for a very long time.
        And, do keep in mind that sometimes “trouble” is an opportunity to elevate your consciousness. Or, as Rimbaud did, you can turn your back on it and follow a different and more conventional path.

  49. Lunar eclipse will be giving some positive impacts on share markets – particularly, where this eclipse will be seen. Impact of such areas may give positive impacts on the global share market.
    Mercury will also start transiting direct in coming week, hence impact on Mercury related issues will be positive globally, because Mercury will be moving ahead for own house and sign.

  52. we definitely jump timelines , but in my experience , they often “jump” us , and only some of us detect this. I notice.most don’t .thru the little things that change…there are always changes as giveaways

    I like this idea of aspects being nodal points but most ppl dont use them . at all
    why predict if not to inform ones intent ?
    I think we can also make choice points thru strong exercising of free will
    this area of debate is fascinating obviously
    there is also the way an astrologer by predicting can actually create the way things coalesce after an aspect ………in the beginning was the word – its powerful and we can manifest things I notice u r careful how u phrase things

Merton’s concept of the “Self-Fulfilling Prophecy”) See, also: http://users.ox.ac.uk/~sfos0060/prophecies.shtml However, unlike what that article says, the original premise need not be “false.” Instead, it can be unrealized potential, a “tinderbox” to which the “prophecy” is a match or spark that ignites a series of events culminating in one or more results. The election of Donald Trump and Brexit are two “nodes” in part of a series of such events that, as astrologers, a number of us have noted as the current “Uranus Square Pluto” period.

    I looked at a couple of obvious charts and correctly pedicted brexit .. for trump’s win I just used uranus pluto square -no charts – it was inevitable .
    Now we have california trying to break away as a republic ?

    • I am in COMPLETE agreement re: Trump and Uranus square Pluto. I think it is all about fundamental restructuring and changing of alliances. I know more interesting aspects are coming (from the chatter from other astrologers) in 2017 and again 2020, but not sure of the specifics (have not run the numbers). Might should check (double check?) the work I did a year or two ago on “long term aspects.” I am also overdue to do my annual analysis for 2017 aspects. Next week?

  54. PS I have a solar return 12th house sun – spent 60th birthday in hospital , now have serious health probs.
    Q . How long does 12th hse return sun event go on , ( the sun in sky is now in 2nd hse ) . The situation built up in ” Obvious” way for just over a month before actual birthday ie 5 weeks , improved as real sun went over solar return ASC , and again as real sun went over solar return 2nd cusp .
    Not really “on thread” but I appreciate your experience !

WELL, I called before setting out and things were still, shall we say, “complex” — can’t be resolved by phone, or resolved at all until a few things happen on their end (they’ve only had all the tomorrows since the end of December, lol) — but I’m holding out hope that all really will be resolved tomorrow this time. What I mean by the term is the day immediately following today’s night – 🙂 – I’m not sure WHAT they mean by “tomorrow!”

    I am grateful I didn’t have to walk all the way there to hear this frustrating news, however – so cold here that my battery lost its charge 😦 – that would have been a mighty uncomfortable jaunt I’m happy to have been spared.

I think we discussed before that you are at your Uranus/Uranus opposition (aka “demi-return”) which happens about 42 years of age and is associated with a number of major shifts (including a Saturn demi-return and usually a Neptune / Neptune square). And, in advance, sorry for any slow responses. Much happening IRL right now, so it might be a few days or even a week or two before I reply.

Progressed Uranus is conjunct the progressed ascendant from the 12th and natal uranus is conjunct from the first. Pr,Mars at 5 pisces, Pr Venus at 5 gemini. (Prog chiron at 19 to boot) between that and the transits it’s quite a picture.
