Every January my Etsy Shop sees a surge in sales of my Chinese Zodiac Symbols as the Chinese New Year approaches.

New Year is the biggest Chinese holiday of the year, with celebrations lasting around two weeks!

Unlike the zodiac we are used to, having 12 signs within 12 months, the Chinese Zodiac has 12 signs that each last one full Chinese year. The date of the New Year also varies from year to year as the calendar is based on the cycles of both the sun and the moon – a lunisolar calendar.

So for 2017 the New Year starts on 28 January 2017 and ends on 15 February 2018. This year is the Year of the Rooster, and more specifically, the Year of the Fire Rooster (as every sign can be divided into one of the five elements used in Feng Shui – fire, water, earth, wood or…

Quick overview: Sun in Capricorn, Full Moon in Cancer at 4.34am MST 1/12/17

The last time the full moon happened in Cancer, it was Christmas day 2015. I didn’t write a blog about that one because I was SO FAR up in my feelings, and that’s what this moon does. First of all, Cancer is ruled by the moon. In a chart the moon is our emotional center, how we subconsciously process and react to things. I think of it as the internal realm, where people are usually aware of our external, conscious sun energy. Where the moon is located will show us where we will ebb and flow like the tides it causes. The full moon always shines a light on the area of the chart it falls, and is the culminating time of the previous new moon.

This is a quiet time of the year.  The holidays are over and that can be a hard time for many of us. This is a time of recovery.  Think of what you need to do to recharge.

After the Full Moon in Cancer before dawn, the Moon goes void-of-course until late afternoon/early evening when she bounces into fiery Leo. This gives us a chance to assimilate the impact of this Full Moon while going about our usual routines. Since Mercury returns to Capricorn as the work day begins, we might as well settle into being responsible and prudent in our thoughts and communications.
