Well written. We actually have 88 Major Constellations, and if anyone wants to add a “13th” why not use all 88? It is because the Twelve Sign system is simpler and easier to use for everyone! And, as you point out, it is has been well established for thousands of year. These silly “13th sign” rumors circulate the Internet ever few years like a bad chain letter. astronomy-vs-astrologyEver since the information about a “new” 13th sign of the zodiac, Ophiuchus, came to light, people have been asking me about the possible change in their zodiac sign. This has only further been confused for people by NASA’s announcement concerning the shifting of the constellations due to the tilt in the Earth’s axis – once again, supposedly changing all the signs of the zodiac. (I find it interesting that while NASA calls astrology a pseudo-science, they still want to meddle in it.)

Astrology is a very ancient practice and among man‘s earliest learning. There was a time when astrology and astronomy were all one science. Now, astronomy deals solely with distance, magnitudes, masses, compositions, motions, speed, etc. while astrology deals with the influence of these celestial bodies on both animate and inanimate objects and their reactions to such influences.
