While in Libra, the sign of the Scales, Mars has been driven to play fair and weigh all sides. On the Zodiac wheel, Libra is followed by Scorpio, and here we go beyond keeping the peace, or saving face, in areas that are crying out for deeper, more penetrating confrontation.

Mercury – the innermost and smallest planet of our solar system – reaches its greatest eastern elongation (19.7 degrees) on 29th December and will be visible as an early evening object a few times, in the gloaming. Most stargazers know that not only its closeness to the Sun, but also the great eccentricity and inclination of its orbit make Mercury a difficult object for naked-eye observation, although sometimes it shines as brightly as Sirius.

Mars in Scorpio indicates an ingenious person with nearly inexhaustible courage and energy, a forceful, pleasure-seeking mentality which is often inclined to take vengeance, or, in the best possible case, indifferent to the finer sensibilities of others; his/her native selfishness is typically ready to crush whatever stands in his/her way.

JUPITER now in VIRGO (Aug 11, 2015 – Sept 9, 2016) goes RETRO on Jan 7 (until May 9), from very close to the North Node in VIR (and opposing the South Node in PI).

So JUPITER is, besides MERCURY (which is also going retro this coming week) presently an astrological focal point, plus the VIR – PI Nodal axis gets ‘highlighted’.
