by Teri Parsley Starnes
Teri’s interest with astrology lies with helping people see how following a practice of intention and self-awareness leads to a fuller relationship with Mystery. Astrology is a wonderful tool for this. Her weekly column orients readers to the seasonal energy of
each month’s Sun sign in order to set magical/mindful intention for the lunar month beginning at the New Moon.
Each week Teri will write about the unfolding energies that support and challenge our intentions. The ebb and flow of the lunar cycle resides deep in our souls. Through following the phases of the Moon, we remember the natural cycles that guide us.

While in Libra, the sign of the Scales, Mars has been driven to play fair and weigh all sides. On the Zodiac wheel, Libra is followed by Scorpio, and here we go beyond keeping the peace, or saving face, in areas that are crying out for deeper, more penetrating confrontation.

Venus Square Neptune January 5 2016

January 3, 2016 at 7:41 am | Posted in Astrology | Comments Off on Mercury’s greatest eastern elongation & Mercury Calendar 2016 (1st quarter)Mercury – the innermost and smallest planet of our solar system – reaches its greatest eastern elongation (19.7 degrees) on 29th December and will be visible as an early evening object a few times, in the gloaming. Most stargazers know that not only its closeness to the Sun, but also the great eccentricity and inclination of its orbit make Mercury a difficult object for naked-eye observation, although sometimes it shines as brightly as Sirius.
The attached chart contains all needed phases, events and characteristics concerning this planet, and also lists the major aspects in the 1st quarter of 2016. Study this visual calendar to understand how the ’Celestial Mechanics’ works in case of an ’inner planet’ like Mercury.

Mars enters Scorpio & Planetary Phenomena of Mars 2016
January 3, 2016 at 7:40 am | Posted in Astrology | Comments Off on Mars enters Scorpio & Planetary Phenomena of Mars 2016Mars in Scorpio indicates an ingenious person with nearly inexhaustible courage and energy, a forceful, pleasure-seeking mentality which is often inclined to take vengeance, or, in the best possible case, indifferent to the finer sensibilities of others; his/her native selfishness is typically ready to crush whatever stands in his/her way.

JUPITER in VIRGO goes retro (Jan 7) next to the North Node: The Practice of Well-Being Helps All.
January 3, 2016 at 4:04 am | Posted in Astrology | Comments Off on JUPITER in VIRGO goes retro (Jan 7) next to the North Node: The Practice of Well-Being Helps All.JUPITER now in VIRGO (Aug 11, 2015 – Sept 9, 2016) goes RETRO on Jan 7 (until May 9), from very close to the North Node in VIR (and opposing the South Node in PI).
So JUPITER is, besides MERCURY (which is also going retro this coming week) presently an astrological focal point, plus the VIR – PI Nodal axis gets ‘highlighted’.
Balancing and bridging the two ‘sides of the equation’ of VIR and PI becomes important…even though, from the PI perspective, everything contains its polar ‘opposite’ and life IS the union of apparently opposing forces.

Sun Conjunct Pluto 2016-01-05 (Thor’s Hammer)

Sun Conjunct Pluto 2016-01-05 (Thor’s Hammer)
This is an annual transit, likely to continue in Capricorn for a few more years, and in this case has a Thor’s Hammer as the dominant pattern. Watch out for dangerous people, places, and things during day’s with Thor’s Hammer patterns. This is a slightly slower moving pattern (than, say, the Moon), so the day before and day after may be risky, also. We would not be surprised to see a strong movement in the financial markets somewhere in the three day window (day before, of, and after, the perfection of the aspect).
Here is the chart of perfection of Sun conjunct Pluto this year, filtered for the Thor’s Hammer:

The Sun / Pluto opposition (companion to this chart) perfects on July 7th of this year. And, this year, this aspect perfects the day after Mercury Retrograde station. Problems overdue for “attention” are likely to show themselves at this time.

Mercury Square Mars 2016-01-05 (Thor’s Hammer)
We saw this December 29th, and we see it again just before (one of) the annual Sun Square Pluto aspect perfects. As we said before, it tends to be a dangerous aspect, and this time it is even more dangerous by co-occurring with Sun Square Pluto. You can “get things done” today, but be careful!
Here is the chart for perfection of the aspect, filtered for the Thor’s Hammer:
