We present the New Moon chart for May 17, 2015. On the eastern coast of the United States as well as in the UK, Europe and certain other parts of the world this NM occurs on May 18, 2015.

We present the chart initially with the aspects to the Sun / Moon emphasized. We note that this NM is exactly conjunct Algol, as happened with the moon at the Vernal Equinox of 2010. That heralded a series of disasters, including the WVA Coal Mine Explosion and culminated in the disaster of the Deepwater Horizon.
As we have mentioned previously, when discussing the recent Philly train wreck, a Quintile Kite is in play for some time during May 2015. That means we are in an extraordinarily rare period that facilitates innovations and creativity. Since Mars and Saturn are critically involved (their opposition perfected May 15th), these innovations do not come easily (i.e. possibly through disasters such as train wrecks). The position of Saturn near a certain fixed star emphasizes this. Still, this is a GREAT window for “creatives” (painters, poets, etc.) It also means we might make real progress in terms of safety practices.

Horary charts are intended to “answer” a “question.” Playing New Moon Jeopardy for a moment (here is the answer, an horary chart), we ask, what is the question?

We note Part of Catastrophe, Part of Fatality, Part of Treachery, and Part of Imprisonment in play. Sun and Moon form a New Moon conjunct Algol. Mercury and Pallas aspect Hamal. What question do you think this NM is answering? (Comments invited. Hint: the NM conjunct Algol is critically important!)
Other patterns are in play. Noteworthy is the persistent Thor’s Hammer currently potentiating accidents and potential for violence:

This Thor’s Hammer (aka God’s Fist) is composed of Saturn (in opposition with Mars!) at the apex, Uranus on one leg, and Hygeia on the other leg. This is a difficult window of time. We might argue that the presence of Mars opposite Saturn at apex constitute (another) new pattern: a “Thor’s Hammer Kite!” But, unlike a traditional kite, this is likely a rather unlucky pattern (unless composed of benevolent planets, and this one is not!)
We also find (yet another) Yod, telling us that an important decision is facing us:

Retrograde Mercury is the FASTEST planet involved, so this is with us for a bit also. And we will likely revisit the decision we made at this time shortly after Mercury goes direct.
More to come on this over the next few days.

[…] Chatter about a so-called “Blood Moon” eclipse has been increasing, and it refers to the New Moon of September 13, 2015. While the NM does have some interesting qualities, it is not necessarily the most interesting NM of the year. (That title would likely go to the Algol NM in May.) […]
