We present the New Moon chart for May 17, 2015.  On the eastern coast of the United States as well as in the UK, Europe and certain other parts of the world this NM occurs on May 18, 2015.

We present the chart initially with the aspects to the Sun / Moon emphasized.  We note that this NM is exactly conjunct Algol, as happened with the moon at the Vernal Equinox of 2010.  That heralded a series of disasters, including the WVA Coal Mine Explosion and culminated in the disaster of the Deepwater Horizon.

As we have mentioned previously, when discussing the recent Philly train wreck, a Quintile Kite is in play for some time during May 2015.  That means we are in an extraordinarily rare period that facilitates innovations and creativity.  Since Mars and Saturn are critically involved (their opposition perfected May 15th), these innovations do not come easily (i.e. possibly through disasters such as train wrecks).  The position of Saturn near a certain fixed star emphasizes this.  Still, this is a GREAT window for “creatives” (painters, poets, etc.)  It also means we might make real progress in terms of safety practices.

Horary charts are intended to “answer” a “question.”  Playing New Moon Jeopardy for a moment (here is the answer, an horary chart), we ask, what is the question?

We note Part of Catastrophe, Part of Fatality, Part of Treachery, and Part of Imprisonment in play.  Sun and Moon form a New Moon conjunct Algol.  Mercury and Pallas aspect Hamal.  What question do you think this NM is answering?  (Comments invited.  Hint: the NM conjunct Algol is critically important!)

Other patterns are in play.  Noteworthy is the persistent Thor’s Hammer currently potentiating accidents and potential for violence:

2015-05-17 New Moon Thors Hammer

This Thor’s Hammer (aka God’s Fist) is composed of Saturn (in opposition with Mars!) at the apex, Uranus on one leg, and Hygeia on the other leg.  This is a difficult window of time.  We might argue that the presence of Mars opposite Saturn at apex constitute (another) new pattern: a “Thor’s Hammer Kite!”  But, unlike a traditional kite, this is likely a rather unlucky pattern (unless composed of benevolent planets, and this one is not!)

We also find (yet another) Yod, telling us that an important decision is facing us:

Retrograde Mercury is the FASTEST planet involved, so this is with us for a bit also.  And we will likely revisit the decision we made at this time shortly after Mercury goes direct.

More to come on this over the next few days.

Saturn conjunct fixed star Dschubba

May 13, 2015 at 7:18 pm | Posted in Astrology | Comments Off on Saturn conjunct fixed star Dschubba

Peter Stockinger's Traditional Astrology Weblog

At the moment, Saturn is conjunct fixed star Dschubba, located in the head of the constellation Scorpius, the Scorpion. The conjunction between Saturn and this fixed star will re-occur in October 2015. Thereafter we will have to wait until November 2044 for a repeat performance.

Dschubba

According to Ptolemy, Dschubba is of the nature of Mars and Saturn. It can cause sudden assaults, malevolence, immorality and shamelessness. This star delta (δ) Dschubba, along with beta (β) Acrab, and pi (π) Scorpius, formed the Arabic 17th manzil al- Iklil, the Crown of the Forehead of the Scorpion.

Saturn, the Greater Malefic, is a cold, dry diurnal planet. He mainly represents sobriety, setbacks and restrictions. In conjunction with the fixed star Dschubba, it is believed to indicate violence, destructive inclinations, cruelty and immorality.

The Cult of Sacred Wells: Introduction

May 13, 2015 at 1:27 pm | Posted in Astrology | Comments Off on The Cult of Sacred Wells: Introduction

Fairy faith in the Northwest

“There is no superstition stronger in Ireland than a belief in the curative power of the sacred wells that are scattered over the country; fountains of health and healing which some saint had blessed, or by which some saint had dwelt in the far-off ancient times. But well-worship is even older than Christianity. It is part of the early ritual of humanity, brought from the Eastern lands by the first Aryan tribes who migrated westward, passing along from the Mediterranean to time Atlantic shores,” (Wilde, Holy Wells).

The great regard that the people of Ireland had for wells is so great that, at one time, they were referred to as The People of the Wells. Within Ireland and Wales, many sacred wells dotted the landscape, each coveted for their holy powers of magic, insight, and healing. From ancient times, to the spreading of Christianity into the British Isles, and even…
