We note, first, that the astrological new year (as well as a number of other new years) occurs at the time of the Vernal Equinox, often called “the first day of Spring.”  That said, here are charts for the turn of the calendar from 2014 to 2015.  We start with Plano (local to the astrologer) and proceed through London, New York City, and Los Angeles.

We note that ascendant and lunar position only vary slightly, and positions of other heavenly bodies vary little at all.  Nevertheless, here are the charts:

We note that in all of these charts the moon is (1) in the 8th house and (2) in varying degrees of closeness to Algol.

The days leading up to this event have been interesting.  December 26th had a Double Yod Key, indicating important decision making after Christmas.  (No doubt some of this is related to the Christmas Day Drama of 2014.)

Astrology for Christmas Day 2014

Christmas Day is RELATIVELY quiet this year.  No heavy duty patterns are in play, or the one or two that arguably remain are breaking up.  Even so, let’s identify the issues we can find.  The first is the ongoing battle of trust versus betrayal (probably in family settings) with Jupiter (the leader of the gods; the party god and sometimes philanderer) and Juno (Jupiter’s sometimes betrayed wife) near each other in Leo and effectively opposed by Mars (anger, war) and the Moon (our deepest innermost desires and emotions):

We note that Moon / Mars can represent older children OR another couple (or both) in the drama that unfolds.

We see a secondary set of issues involving Hygeia (health and healthcare) in opposition to Vesta (traditions) and Pluto (death, secrets, and radical change).  Christmas squabbles seem to be the routine for many families; this year will not likely be an exception.  (Note: we are using a Sunrise chart set in Plano.  Differences may occur in other localities; most of these differences will be minor in the United States.)  We also add that we believe that a sunrise chart is particularly appropriate for this holiday.

Hygeia COULD be a “counselor” or “healthcare professional” that “screws up Christmas for everyone” (Vesta, traditions) and maybe even leaves the police (Pluto) unhappy.

While arguably some trines do exist in this chart, the orbs must be wide (loose, questionable) and so we ignore them.  The most noteworthy square is Mercury / Uranus which culminated the day before on the 24th.  (We could write an article about this much more interesting day, but we will not unless some event compels us to do so.  This article is being written on the 23rd.)  Whatever was going to happen on the 24th, it either did or did not and the event and associated choice in the matter is now past.  (It could have been the “brainstorm” to plan to do whatever is happening on Christmas.)

A few people will attempt “interventions” this Christmas.  The sesquiquadrates in play (along with the oppositions already mentioned) indicate that the need for this will seem compelling, but chances are good that the effort will fail.  (The South Node, or “easy way out,” is in play.  It tends to keep the status quo and avoid hard work.)

Legal systems (particularly police via the involvement of Astraea) may be brought into play, but the outcome will likely be unfavorable.  Conversations between Juno (the wife) and Pluto (the police) are characterized by inconjuncts (miscommunications and unspoken disagreement).  However, the police may see fit to ask for the removal of any children or other parties (nearby Mercury and Venus).  Involvement of septiles involving Mercury and Venus (children?) may make the chain of events seem unavoidable.  (Did it have to happen this way?  Probably.  (We omit this version of the chart as mostly uninteresting.))

How to handle a day like this?  Probably difficult to impossible to avoid these problems unless you plan to spend Christmas alone.  The compulsion to “act” leads to the problems.  “Taking action” in this case is best deferred to another (more favorable) day.

Given the involvement of Chiron and Juno (healing and trust issues), and that Saturn has now entered Sagittarius (courts and the legal system, among others), we can expect to see some important events in the legal system.  This is potentiated by a Thor’s Hammer that is also in play:

New Moon and Winters Solstice of December 2014

The New Moon of December 21st has five planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Pluto, and Venus) and an asteroids (Vesta) in Capricorn. This collective is square to Uranus, Astraea, and the South Node (all in Aries). Uranus and Pluto are square less than one degree apart (15 minutes) having recently completed the exact square on December 14th. The level of emotion, most likely in the form of anxiety or anger, will likely be at fever pitch. Violence is possible, even likely. Arguments are nearly certain.

Capricorn moons are notoriously unforgiving at best.  Both Hitler and Adam Lanza had Moon in Capricorn in their birth chart.  (Researching this article, we found this fun link.)

We note that Saturn is in the final degree of Scorpio in both charts.  This particular time is likely best spent in solitude planning for the new year.  Another good use might be in something productive such as sculpting in clay.  (Avoid use of sharp tools to sculpt due to the potential for injury.)  The possibility exists that a skilled healer MIGHT could help a group work through negative emotions at this time.

Uranus Square Pluto December 2014 (and the Libra Moon T-Square that follows)

Many of you are looking for information on the (exact) square of Uranus to Pluto in December 2014.  Here is the basic chart:

As interesting as that is, the following T-Square (Grand Cross if you add the asteroid Hygeia) is particularly interesting.

We believe that any significant events that occur during this period will occur near this alignment of the Moon into the Uranus / Pluto square.

If violence can be avoided, this is a strong period for creativity (5th harmonic) and resolving old grievances (karma, 7th harmonic).

Juno, Saturn, Chiron 7th Harmonic (Beginners) 2014-12

Juno (trust issues) and Chiron (the wounded healer) are connected by a TriSeptile; both in turn connect by BiSeptiles to Saturn (hard work, tests, trials, and tribulations).  We have not seen any discussion of a pattern like this, but almost certainly it involves working through old wounds that resulted from violations of trust.  (We will name it a “Septile T” because it corresponds to a T-Square.)  Septiles (and biseptiles and triseptiles) are thought to be karmic and indicate that something “must” be done (or some form of deterioration will occur).  This particular pattern may involve, among other things, the trust that the public does, or does not, have regarding the police forces (and vice versa).

Astrologer Robert Wilkinson describes septiles thus: “Due to the non-rationality of the numbers produced when the circle is divided by 7, it is assumed that these aspects represent the non-rational points in the cycle. Thus on a personality level they show as obsessive or compulsive behavior, irrationality or strange inexplicable points in the process. And of course, as you know if you’ve been reading this column for any length of time, when operating as a transit they represent critical “forks in the road of destiny,” where we must choose which way we will define our personality and therefore our future.”

More on Septiles

We note that this follows a period of particularly intense Thor’s Hammers.  So, whatever happens here might actually be the culmination of the series of events associated with those.  And, to some degree, the results we have here are consequent to choices made earlier in August and September during the Grand Yod.

Other perspectives:

As potent as this Uranus/Pluto square is, we believe that it is the Septiles (and Quintiles) that will dramatically color how this powerful and unstable potential is expressed at this time.  Issues of trust and healing must be resolved.

Thor’s Hammers of early to mid December 2014

We see some particularly intense Thor’s Hammer patterns emerging during the period from December 9th through December 13th of 2014.  Particularly intense are the patterns from about 10 PM (2200 CST) of December 11th through about 9 AM (0900 CST) of December 12th.  Here is one chart that stands out (large number of planets in 12th house + eighth house void moon):

Quintile Kite of December 10, 2014

Looking for a window for maximum creativity for that final paper you are writing?  The night of December 9/10 of 2014 is a good one.  We have a Quintile Kite overnight, and those are excellent windows for writing and creativity.

This Quintile Kite uses the South Node and is not as strong as some.  The South Node says that you will have a temptation to “take the easy way out.”  Do that if you must, but do know that you CAN stretch beyond that!  Here is a video of that overnight window of opportunity:

Full Moon of December 6, 2014

We live in complex and troubling times.  While that might could be said of any period of time (“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness”), we see a number of patterns activated during this full moon and are reminded of the disasters of 2010 (a series culminating in the Deepwater Horizon).

A number of astrologers have mentioned the ongoing series of Uranus / Pluto squares covering several years.  We do not need to cover that again here, but we do need to note the important of the context that aspect provides in the following discussion.  If everything was driven by loving trines, then maybe it would not matter.  But, that’s not true.  We have squares in general, and grand crosses and t-squares in particular.  And we have Thor’s Hammer (aka God’s Fist) patterns.  A rosetta and mystic rectangle tell us that we are (still) polarizing.  (Duh, you easily read that in the news.  But the astrology is consistent.)  A large number of 5th order harmonics tells us we can find creative solutions.  A large number of 7th order harmonics tells us that we are dealing with karma that insists that we find those solutions.

Step by step, here are the variants of the Full Moon Chart for December 6th of 2014.

1.  Grand Cross and T-Square

If we allow ourselves to count the node, we have a long term grand cross that has been in play for some time and will continue.  This grand cross is an extended vision of the famous Uranus / Pluto squares discussed elsewhere.  It brings in the fate and karma of the North Node along with the issues of health, healthcare, and healing from the asteroid Hygeia.  Though the node is technically not a “planet” (or asteroid or other body), we suspect that this method of approaching the current variant of the Uranus / Pluto square yields the most insight.  We cannot ignore issues and disparities in our healthcare systems any longer.

The Full Moon combination of Sun/Moon has Chiron (the “wounded healer”) square to it.  This is another signal that issues in health and healthcare must be dealt with, and Chiron blends in issues of education (particularly healthcare education, such as the training of healthcare professionals).  Expect to see changes in healthcare education, starting in 2015 and beyond.

2.  Grand Trines

We see a series of variants of a particular grand trine (Fire: Aries / Leo / Sagittarius) in this chart.  Grand trines are usually stabilizing influences, but this is a FIRE grand trine.  When tied in with the other aspects, what we see is that it likely provides an insistence on change and on the need for leadership in facilitating the needed change(s).

No matter which side you take on these current issues, you know that strong leadership is needed at this time.  Few people can honestly believe that we can move forward from where we are without certain major changes in our system happening.

3.  Kites

Kites sometimes occur with grand trines, and the signify opportunities.  One of the strongest here involves the node (opportunity, but HARD WORK needed to manifest that opportunity), and the other integrates the full moon itself (and this means it is particularly tied to the days of December 5/6/7).  Somebody will make some serious money from this, perhaps a HUGE windfall.

Since Jupiter / Uranus are involved in this second kite, this will be a time where we might see some huge “lotto” (figuratively if not literally) windfalls.  Somebody will win big.

We would also argue that this interlaced pattern of kites constitutes the emergence of a new pattern, perhaps it could be called something like a “twin kite key.”  (It looks a bit like a house, so it could be the “house that kites built.”  But “twin kite key” is more succinct.)

4. Rosettas and Mystic Rectangle

We see two rosettas (highly polarizing in their influence) and a mystic rectangle (an odd mix of conflict in some areas but stability in others) in play in this full moon:

We note that both of these involve the North Node (“fate” and hard work).

The North Node is also involved here as well as the current full moon and Uranus.  This combination likely indicates a fleeting but powerful opportunity; the window will close soon.

5.  Square Key

Yet another pattern telling us of work to be done.  Additionally, this pattern indicates that we may be dissatisfied with the results not being quite what we had hoped for.  Sun / Uranus / Hygeia / Chiron in this pattern ties together the health and healing issues again.

6.  5th Order Harmonics

We see a number of 5th order aspects (quintiles and bi-quintiles) in this chart, telling us that creative solutions are available if we are open to receive them.

7.  7th Order Harmonics

We also see a number of 7th order harmonics.  This tells us that we had better avail ourselves of the available creative solutions (and do the work necessary to make them happen) or “else.”

Yod of December 3/4 2014

Another interesting Yod happens December 3/4 of 2014.  Think of this one as “Part 2” of the November 29th Yod.  The same Rosetta and Hele patterns that applied on Saturday are still applicable here, and we will not duplicate that analysis here.

Based on the decision you made Saturday afternoon / evening, you can switch.  If you chose to stay in the same place, you can continue to do so or have another opportunity to switch to a different path.  And if you switched to a different path, you may consider returning to the old path (NOT recommended for most people).

While the Yod actually starts about 3 PM CST, we have selected the 11 PM CST (Midnight EST) chart to show a complex configuration that occurs signifying some intense moments this evening.  We see the Node enter into the pattern bringing in the question of “fate.”  (Will you choose a safe or risky option?  Choose wisely.)

In fact, shortly after the Node enters (fate, destiny), Hygeia leaves and a totally different yod replaces the earlier one!

From Midnight to about 4 AM CST some of the configuration becomes particularly strong.  We note this is “closing time” for some establishments that sell alcoholic beverages and may be associated with some rather nasty disagreements that are alcohol fueled.
