Saturn in Scorpio (The Power of Mutual Reception)

For a very long time, about 50% of the traffic for this blog has come from people with questions about Saturn entering Scorpio. That does not happen this year in 2011, but perhaps the time has arrived to begin to address that. Saturn enters Scorpio October 5, 2012.
[Update September, 2012: For Charts and Maps, click here.]
In many spheres, the key to finding the correct answer is knowing which question(s) to ask. In the case of the upcoming transit of Saturn into Scorpio, “What happens when Saturn moves into Scorpio?” is NOT the correct question. The question looks good, but the answers it gives are messy.
After all, if your interest is 2012 and the anticipated end of the Mayan calendar, you should recall that Saturn has moved into Scorpio approximately every 28 years for many cycles. The real question is “What makes Saturn’s entry into Scorpio different THIS time?”
The answer is found in the relationship that Saturn enters when it enters Scorpio: it will enter mutual reception with Pluto (in Capricorn). Think of it this way, “if” the planets can get along, and all “can” to some greater or lesser degree, then each planet in the other planet’s home STRENGTHENS both planets. Pluto is already in Saturn’s “home,” namely Capricorn. And, when Saturn enters Scorpio, it will IMMEDIATELY be in mutual reception and this will continue for “about” 2.5 years. AND, Pluto and Saturn are very “friendly” with each other to begin with.
Pluto’s entry into Capricorn was closely related to the economic crash of 2008. Nobody wanted to talk about that, probably because Pluto stays in a sign for 20 years. That implied that we will, or “better,” have a period of unparalleled financial conservatism, or we will disintegrate. By “financial conservatism,” I do not mean that Wall Street continues to behave as they have. Both they and the government(s) must change. So must we. Frankly, the time to ditch the credit cards has arrived.
Pluto is associated with both poisons and medicines, and how you view the elimination of credit cards will be one of the two. Pluto also represents addictive drugs (along with Neptune). If you want to heal, then it is not going to be about the latest “cool” herb at the health food store. It is going to be about eliminating your debt (completely) and building up savings. To some degree, healing will be about returning to certain old traditional values of small supportive communities and local banks.
Just in case we did not get the message in 2008 (and many of us did not), the entrance of Saturn into Scorpio in 2012 will be another powerful exclamation point. Expect to see issues with finances to slam us again. And, since Neptune entered its home recently (something it does only every 160 years), expect many people to go through a powerful withdrawal. (Along with Pluto, Neptune is about ADDICTION, remember? In fact, Neptune is MORE about addiction than Pluto. Being home, that “dark side” of Neptune is very powerful now.)
As mentioned elsewhere on this blog, on the Winters Solstice of 2012, Saturn will be at 8 degrees Scorpio and Pluto will be at 8 degrees Capricorn. The planets will be precisely Sextile, and the mutual reception will be “on steroids.” They will be part of the Focused Yod that includes both Venus and Jupiter. Venus and Jupiter represent our saviors.
A healthy Venus is about healthy finance. My mental image of Venus in this sense is *NOT* “Wall Street.” Instead, it is a radiant sunny spring day picture of a large family farm in which all is neat and orderly. No debt is needed, and interdependency with external sources is minimized. (But it is not saving your retirement money so you can have a vineyard.)
Of course, the farmers must be good neighbors “or else.” In real life, not everyone in a rural area is a good neighbor, but in my mental image they are and must be. The image is not one of health for an individual, but for families and communities. Venus, especially amplified by Jupiter in the teacher role shared with Chiron, is the “earth mother” who nourishes us all back to health. This is a key metaphor from the focused yod of the Solstice.
As the beautiful lady and the centaur present themselves to save us, we could argue that this event will be the “Lady Godiva” event.

Like everyone else, depends on how Saturn interacts with their chart. But, some scorpios interact VERY well with Saturn / Capricorn. In fact, the relationship between Banking & Finance, on one hand, and Law & Law Enforcement, on the other hand, is expressed by that pair. And, the aspects of the 2012 solstice specifically focus on that issue. 2008 may have been just a prelude to a more significant transformation of “how we do business.”
Here is something more specific to hang your hat on: the outcome of “Occupy X” (Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Dallas, etc.) is very important. It is more important than most people realize. It is a tiny point, in the sense that a spark is an extremely powerful tiny point, that represents the beginnings of “us” to collectively wake up and use Milton Friedman’s “dollar vote” (and legislation if needed) to tell large business entities that we reject unethical and unfair behavior. Of course, this can go very wrong on both sides. The “Occupy” groups may misuse their power or be frivlous. Big business may choose to not listen. But maybe, just maybe, we can begin to see certain changes that are badly needed.

why does our western astrology have saturn entering scorpio in october 2012, but in the eastern astrology saturn is in libra until 2014?

The answer is found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_and_tropical_astrology
Western Astrology uses the tropical, and Eastern Astrology uses the sidereal. What does that mean? Well, that is an interpretative question. Since this blog focuses (only) on Western Astrology, this is not the place to find a meaningful comparison of the two (or arguably more) approaches. If you are considering sidereal alternatives, then you should consider heliocentric analysis. If analysis of approaches other than tropical were to be considered, then the next “stop” would be heliocentric.

My natal Saturn is in Scorpio, so my 2nd return should be quite interesting…Saturn has been transiting 5 planets in Libra. Actually it has’t been too bad. Interesting you mentioned the degrees of Pluto and Saturn on the Solstice. My ascendant is Capricorn at 8 degrees so I am well acquainted with Pluto. I am hoping for a meaningful transit. A good heads up on the credit card scene and paying off debts, that subject is huge on my mind and know that is what needs to be done. I look forward to having that albatross off my back.

Are you male or female? Makes more difference with Cancer than other signs since Cancer is the most profoundly female of signs. Cancer is associated with the Moon. Cancer and Leo go together in one sense, namely that the Sun is known as the “Greater Light” and the Moon is known as the “Lesser Light.” Together the two dominate the sky, with Leo being the most masculine of signs (although some would argue that Aries is via its relation to Mars) and the Moon the most feminine (although some would argue Taurus via its relationship to Venus).
Cancer exists in opposition to Capricorn, as Leo does to Aquarius. In ancient times, Saturn co-ruled both of these and, therefore, Saturn opposed both the Sun and the Moon (but in different ways). While Aquarius represents either the audience or “the people,” Leo represents the actor or the King. Similarly, Cancer represents alternately the Mother or the Family. (In relation to Cancer, Leo is the father.) The mother is the guardian of the family, but she loses her power and authority as the children leave home to go to work (Capricorn is work).
Interestingly, Capricorn (Saturn) represents the “corporate family” or business community. And, it represents leaders in that community who are a different kind of “father.”
If you are a heterosexual female marrying a male, then the Saturn trine may represent your husband. Additionally, the trine may not be about your wedding, but instead about your first child, possibly the birth of your first child. In this sense, the first child would be a kind of “glue” that would help hold the marriage together during tough times.
This glue may work in a way different from what you imagine. Saturn rules test, trials, and tribulations. Saturn is about our bones, those strongest parts of ourselves that hold the rest of us together. The child may be a source of “difficulty” that teaches you how to be a wife and mother. If you are a male cancerian, then the child will present the opportunity for you to become responsible and grow into the next stage of your life: being a father. I might add that Cancerian fathers are capable of being very good parents.
Saturn’s movement into Scorpio means that Saturn will trine your natal sun, depending on when you were born. If you were born in early July, this will happen sometime in 2013, after the 2012 Solstice. If you were born later, say about July 20th, you probably will not experience the trine until 2014.
Similarly, you had a Saturn square either now or within the past two and a half years. These are seven (7) year turns of the clock. That means that, roughly corresponding to your 21st, 28th, 35th, 42nd, 49th, (or beyond, in seven year increments) birthday, the most recent of those, you had a shift that occurred. Saturn is more gradual, so the shift could have been up to a year prior or after. But, this was a big shift. You moved, married, divorced, had a major death in the family, started school, graduated, or something similar. With the Saturn trine, you will have the opportunity (a chance but not a guarantee) to build something lasting that will favor you. This lasting thing will be tested in seven (7) year increments, especially at fourteen (14) and twenty eight (28) years. A marriage on a Saturn trine could work well if other aspects are similarly favorable. The Saturn trine will give stability but not excitement.
Noteworthy is that Neptune is in Pisces. Neptune is about a lack of permanence and a change from the old to the new. It is also about poetry, music, photography and video. It is also about drugs, alcohol, and criminality. You will want to watch for those dangers and get help if you have a problem. Your natal sun, Saturn, and Neptune, together will form a grand trine. This will have long lasting consequences (good or bad).
Take plenty of pictures and make home movies. These will be special moments that only come once in your life.

Your Saturn return is a few years away. However, since you have a Scorpio Moon in your birth chart, you will feel the power of Saturn (test, trials, and tribulations) touching your Moon (the innermost and most sensitive part of ourselves). Some time in 2013 you may receive some news, possibly bad news, that causes a major shift in your life.
After you recover from the shakeup, you may feel a pull to focus on a particular subject or domain. That particular journey will last up to five years, and then you will start a new major pattern in your life with your Saturn return starting some time in 2015.

Using PAT (courtesy of the developer and located at http://www.planetary-aspects.com/), you appear to have significant activity from transiting planets to your natal Mars. Venus will trine (2 degree orb), Uranus (in Aries, the sign associated with Mars) square your Mars, and Pluto will be conjunct your Mars.
This is a very “interesting” time for you. Although they may not be monetary, you may experience large gains or large losses. If you are not romantically involved, then you enter into a romance that seems completely atypical for you. If romance is a non-issue for you, then the same may apply to business ventures or career moves.
Keep a diary. You might be able to generate a novel from the story you experience.

Using PAT (courtesy of the developer and located at http://www.planetary-aspects.com/), I have taken a peek at some of your other aspects.
Most interesting are the aspects happening to your natal Mars. So, to the commentary of your upcoming experience of up to five years, add this: if you are not already in a romance, you are ripe for one that is atypical. For it to happen, you will have to be able to “think outside the box.” At the time of Saturn’s entry into Scorpio, you will have Venus trine your Mars (in Capricorn), Uranus (in Aries, the sign related to Mars) square it, and Pluto conjunct it.
If you pursue this romance at this time, you should keep a diary. I cannot guarantee that it will last, but it will be a remarkable adventure and worthy of a novel some day.
If you are not romantically available, then this is likely to be a business deal or may involve the death of a person or bankruptcy of a business.
In any case, your “homework” is to look up these aspects for yourself and see how they may apply in your life.

The specific information helps a great deal.
Your Saturn return is about three (3) years away. You are smart enough and seasoned enough to prepare for it this time. Look back at what happened last time (between 1985 and 1987). You probably had one of the “Big Four”: birth, death, marriage, or divorce. If you gave birth to a child, then this child is very important to you. (Aren’t they all?) In your case, the child will go through their first Saturn return as you go through the second one. If you married, and are still married, you may see some of the strongest strains you have ever seen. If you divorced, your ex may re-appear, particularly if you had a child together. A grand-child could appear. And, a mix of these events may occur.
After this period is over, and by the time you turn 60 in 2017, you will have been liberated from a number of situations. You will be able to look back, with hindsight, and see that you are glad to be done with some of them. But, between now and then, take pictures and make videos. You’ll want to be able to tell the story the way it happened.
You are really quite the warrior at times. As difficult as it may be, you may need to focus on leading by example rather than by manipulation. In the end, that Aries Moon of yours will be happier if you can develop those skills.

Hello. BUrning the midnight oil here! I’m very interested in this transit as well. When would one begin feeling affects? I have my sun, moon, rising, venus, mercury, and mars all in scorpio (outrageous, I know! glad to still be living!) and as I learn more about astrology, and examine my life, my curiosity grows. I’ve been in a three year change my life/healing phase, which has been potent but I’m ready for more financial stability and the things of a committed life. Do you think saturn will help facilitate these things? Is there anything gentle about saturn? How best to prepare?
Any reply would be greatly appreciated. I’ve never posted on a blog before!

My analysis is based on November 13, 1974 @ 6am. As usual, it is set in Plano absent information to the contrary.
As you may know, Scorpio has a tendency to self-destruct. This is expressed in the metaphor of the Phoenix. You are in the curious position of having an abundance of this quality. You can be saint or sinner, but nothing in between. Sadly, you may have a tendency to draw anyone near you into the vortex. If you want to move forward, then you will have to find a way to address this issue. One will be to associate with those willing to associate with you but strong enough to distance themselves when needed. You might be a paradoxical “clingy” Scorpio (it can happen). If so, then this will be difficult. If you are an obese scorpio female, then this will be particularly difficult.
If you have children who live at home with you, you will need to find people from outside of the home to help your children to individuate. In your great efforts to protect your children, you may cripple their growth. Time for that boy or girl to have a coach or music teacher that helps the child to blossom into something that you may not have been able to see in them.
Sometimes this kind of concentration can lead to a problem with alcohol or other drugs. If you have entered a recovery phase, and if you are beyond the first year, then you can begin to wake up and see the kinds of patterns described above. You’ll need to work on breaking that patterns. If you have made the effort to search, and then to post on a blog, then you have made a profound step forward given the conservative nature of this configuration.
Saturn cannot be prepared for in the ordinary sense. However, you can make a list of everything you are grateful for having in your life. You might even make this an exercise that you do once a week, always preparing the new list “blind” before looking at the old one. (To see what you have added or left off.) As you accumulate these lists (and your level of Scorpio can be very efficient at accumulating–watch for clutter), you will start to see what is leaving and what is staying. That knowledge will be useful as Scorpio comes through to touch each of your planets.

Hi,
Justed to see if someone can help with my query. I am a November born Scorpio, having ups and downs in my career. I have managed to come out all of my previous downslide with a support system and my strong mental strength. According to the eastern horoscope chart, Saturn is ruling from 2004-2023 with other planets going around and a combination with Saturn going to reflect good/bad aspects. Last 2 years has been a downhill and Saturns effect until August 3rd 2012 is going to be harsh. From August, it is going to get better but sluggish until 2014 Feb. Once after feb 2014, it is going to be great and different direction. This same pattern happened twice (1990-2000 and 2001-2010). Thanks for your response.

Being a Scorpio I have to admit I’m pretty sketchy about a (limited/restricted Government sign) entering MY sign. I’m very independent and already have disabilities -pretty intense for me! Especially when Saturn in Scorpio trines the twelfth house of isolation and institutions and my fourth house of home..hmmmm?
I just can’t see me getting along with Saturn that way….I treasure my freedom and independence too much.

Your commentary is interesting. Hopefully your disabilities do not restrict you too much. As we age, all of us acquire disabilities, but some of us have them earlier in life than others. These constraints define us. In a sense, they might be considered to be “constructal flows.” (Refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructal_theory)
The water houses (4, 8, 12) are the karma houses, and I am certain that you already understand that. Karma narrows the available choices in any given situation, and you are saying that you suspect that a window of time is approaching where you must address these constrained choices. Do understand that enlightenment, yours or others, can identify alternative choices that were not previously visible. In your case, you will need the “Aha!” moment. That means that you need to court the gift of Prometheus (Uranus), which currently resides in Aries.

Your Sun/Moon combination does appear to be one that should be highly activated by the Winter Solstice alignments this December. Since you seem to be making a general appeal to anyone reading these entries, I will withhold commentary so others can speak first. Based on the information you provided, I used December 25, 1948 for your date of birth. You may want to provide more specific data if that does not fit you.

Your Saturn return does begin this Fall with transiting Saturn touching your Sun before touching the place of your natal Saturn. This is part of another pattern in your life: your annual solar return. Each birthday, you tend to have something that either dampens your spirits or at least focuses you upon the essentials. Examine your life, and you will likely find this pattern.
Now, you will see this on a larger scale. Certain things that have been important to you in the past will be gone within the next two to three years. You will become focused on a single essential thing. Usually this is consequent to the big four: birth, death, marriage, and divorce.
Stay in touch.

Saturn removes that which is not essential to the next stage of your life. But, you may have difficulty letting go of some things. Whatever degree of pain you feel will be proportional to your degree of attachment. Finally, removal of the old makes room for the new.

We see a strong emphasis on her work and work ethic for the next few years. As we would expect for someone her age, she is building a foundation that will influence her work and career for a number of years. Generally, you may expect this foundation to last for about 28 years.
We note that Saturn in late Libra will trine her Venus at 29 Aquarius. Planets in the last three degrees are often described as “fated” and medieval astrologers have specific meanings for specific planets in specific signs. Let us just say that she is reaching a critical point regarding her financial foundation.
This could also signal a romantic involvement, and it could be with an older man. You may not want to hear that, but it is not necessarily a “bad” thing. Even if he is not older, he will likely have some kind of austere strength metaphorically similar to the strength of bones. If she marries at this time then she may experience some “lean” years but she can build a very strong marriage forged from those lean years.
You should have more concern in about two years when transiting Saturn will conjoin natal Pluto. If you wish to help her, and if she is amenable to astrological solutions, then you will want to start researching Saturn / Pluto conjunctions now and determine how this energy is likely to be applicable in her life.

Count yourself lucky that he is no older than that.
“Six years” is one of several key points in astrology. Specifically, when two people are involved, it means that their natal Jupiter positions are in opposition. They either strongly agree, or strongly disagree, on matters of career growth, higher education, legal matters, and (long distance) travel. Depending on other factors, this can work very well since they, as a couple, tend to see “both sides” of these issues.

I am working from home the last 10 years via a small business doing marketing & Internet development.
I have Scorpio in the 6rh house with Mars & Neptune in there. There are no hard aspects with other planets. I have 4 planets in house 4, Sun, Pluto, Venus, Mercury.
Moon in 2nd cusp Cancer & Saturn in the 11th Aries. Jupiter in 3rd.
More shocks coming? Thank you!!!

Since I do not have precise data, I am using September 12, 1963 / 10 pm as a proxy for your chart.
You will feel more “shocks” soon after Saturn’s entry into Scorpio on October 6th. Here, Saturn will soon conjoin Mars. A state of affairs will emerge that will be difficult and will appear to be permanent. Since transiting Saturn is involved (as opposed to Mars transiting Saturn), this process may last for at least a month if not several months. The conjunction of transiting Saturn with Neptune prolongs the process. Whether “good” or “bad,” you will perceive events to be long lasting (Saturn) that really are not (Neptune).
Since this is only a proxy chart based on the general information you have provided, any further analysis would not be appropriate. You might choose to retain a professional astrologer of your choice to highlight details and nuances.

Okay, that helps because it means that Saturn will touch Neptune first then Mars and not the other way around. And, this tricky situation is at least a year away.
Although you have plenty of activity in your chart, you have little on the October 6th entry date. What you do have is favorable, with Pluto trine your Sun (a long term favorable aspect occurring over a period of months), Jupiter (now (July, 2012) and then (October, 2012) in Gemini) squaring your Mercury in Virgo (good for words and problem solving, just watch for grandiosity), and Venus conjunct Venus. This last one is especially benevolent, and it can signal the birth, or re-birth, of a business, romance, or improved health.
Venus square Venus is a short-lived aspect that will last only a few days at the very most. And, as a footnote, the Mayan calendar that is the basis for the 2012 controversy is based on transits of Venus. We had two rare ones this year that will not repeat for over a century. The possibility exists that this might be a “once in a lifetime” opportunity for you. Keep your eyes open; once gone it will not return.
You will have a window in which you can “jump ships” and do something new. You will want to keep your eyes open for opportunities that open at this time. (Come back for a visit and let us know how this goes.)
Again, I used PAT as part of this analysis, and it is courtesy of http://www.planetary-aspects.com/

I could swear I answered this, but I see it in the “pending” queue. So, I will give it the short answer: go for it. You are a smart guy who knows how to evaluate these things. If I were hiring an analyst to work for me, then I would want you or someone like you. And, let me know how it goes. (Just something general and NON-identifying, so I can release it to the public. OR, two separate posts: a public one and a private one to be trashed. (Be certain to identify which one is which.))

I am born on July 18th 1984 with Libra rising and pluto at 29 degrees, But also Saturn 9degrees and Mars(16 degree) in First house.
My Venus is Squared by Saturn and pluto 🙂
For no fault of my own (Atleast i am assuming) i am unconsciously carrying lot of past relationship, Will it be supportive when Saturn moves into Scorpio? to be able to fully throw my past? Can you please tell me what it it that i need to work on?
I never had a relationship until Saturn Entered Libra and broke up in 2010.

Can you provide a time of birth and time zone? And, do you have any more specific questions? And, as I mentioned elsewhere, I probably cannot get to this until this weekend.

Oh, one other thing. You know that major shift that happened some time in your life between 2005 and 2007 (inclusive)? You might get another taste of it, or some kind of shift related to it, this spring. Are you an athlete by any chance?

March 27, 1977 – Punjab, India; Time of Birth: 13.05; Position: 75.0838816 E & 31.4831939 N. You are right there was a major shift in between 2005 to 2007. I received some good business opportunities at that time and it brought bit of settlement in my career at that time. No, I am not an athlete; just a small business man.

As I have described elsewhere, the transiting Sun touches a particular natal planet in the same way on roughly the same date each year. This can shift a day when a leap year occurs or sometimes the year before a leap year. But, mostly, it stays the same. Here is that list through August of next year. I suggest you research it, beginning with looking at what happened on these dates in past years.

March 27, 1977 – Punjab, India; Time zone (GMT + 5.30); Location: 75.0838816 E & 31.4831939 N.; You are right, I had tasted quite a success between 2005 & 2007. I managed to get a solid direction to my career. I am not an athlete, just a small businessman. If something similar would have to happen, what would be the length of such a time.

You have another shift coming. You will feel the harbinger, or messenger, of this shift in the first week or two of September. Pay close attention to what happens that week.
Do not be fooled by what has been happening this week or happens this weekend. Things seem “interesting” but you may not be seeing the signals as clearly as you need to until September.
The key planet for you, currently, is your natal Uranus (Prometheus). Of course, all the planets have messages to give you, but this one particularly stands out. Mars will conjoin Uranus on September 9th, but that is an outer planet aspect and something else (a New Moon, Full Moon, or some interesting pattern) will trigger what you need to see. So, you might see it as early as the 1st or as late as the 20th. Keep your eyes open.
And, realize that the Mars/Uranus conjunction (which you need to research and read about) is just the beginning of something bigger. Saturn conjuncts Uranus on January 27th of 2013 for you and again on March 13th. These aspects are even more gradual, and you can expect the trigger to happen on a date as early as a month before (Winters Solstice 2012) or a month later (some time in April).
So that you can further research the aspects yourself, here is the aspect list for you:

Hi Grandtrines,
In fact, I wanted to reply to the next post you had about me but i could not reply as reply link is not there. As you mentioned, this new shift is coming, it seems I am getting very close to it.
I have a new brand of sports nutrition which i started marketing January last year, it has started to pick up a little bit this year but my cashflow is extremely tight and i do not have the budget to expand it even though the products are very good. A foreign company (Bigger group) wants to takeover the brand as a major shareholder and wants to pump in the money in it and of course they would want me to drive it forward.
I am not sure if this is good for me and what should i really do?
You mentioned Mars/Uranus conjunction on Januray 27th and then again March 13 2013; interestingly they invited me to have our first meeting around 27th January in which they were really impressed and now they have invited me again to attend a meeting around 13th march, where they would be keen to make a decision either way.
Do you have any advice for me?

With the Mars / Uranus conjunction at hand, I thought I would address this.
You describe complex issues that are not easily addressed here. The situation you describe is a classic situation with small startups with good ideas. How you want to proceed depends on many factors. I recommend that you consult with a competent attorney who practices in this area before having any more meetings with the larger company. At a minimum, you need legal advice on how to proceed.
That said, some people stand to make a great deal of money this year, and areas involving nutrition have a great deal of potential this Spring and Summer. Just make certain you have a good attorney who can help protect your interests.

Your homework is to listen to “El Solo Toro.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lonely_Bull) And, once you have done that, you must do the following: find out three things that people in your age group did when that song was a top hit. These must be three things that YOU are capable of doing, and they MUST involve other people. (You might check meetup.com for suitable activities.) You are to do one of them by the culmination of the upcoming full moon. (That is happening this Wednesday, August 1st.) You do not have much time, so you must act quickly.
It has to be THIS full moon because it is a Leo/Aquarius full moon, and Aquarius governs friends and groups of people. You WILL feel uncomfortable, so you must make notes of your feelings and thoughts before and after. Use a pen and paper, not a computer, to write these down. And, it would be great if you would redact all personal information and any information that could identify any people involved and let us know how it went for you. You will be identifying your karma, and these notes will be of value to you.
Are you male or female? In most charts that does not make a difference, but it does with yours. Provide me with a time of day and time zone, too. And, as I mentioned on the front page, I cannot do this until later, probably this weekend.

Very interesting post. I am a Capricorn 12/27/54 Dallas. I have Saturn in Scorpio (Venus as well) and have been trying to retrace my previous Saturn return to reflect on the one coming up. Ant thoughts? This Pluto in Cap has been tough but in a growing revealing way!

I’m apprehensive of Saturn return in Scorpio because of the eclipses in Taurus/Scorpio. Will the Saturn return be negative for me? I recently started a business and am also pursuing an undergrad degree, and hope to have a masters by 2015. Will there be any large obstacles to my progress? I’ve already had a rough decade, have multiple reproductive and gastrointestinal issues and student loans are piling up.
I’m a female born October 29th 1985 in New York City at 11:01 pm.

I am penning one last “general purpose” article for the evening, but I am interested in producing an analysis for you. Both your chart and your story sound interesting. My guess is that I will get to it some time in the next few days. What I can tell you is that you have a certain kind of predictable sequence. Although you can feel it at squares (Leo and Aquarius, such as tonight’s full moon, as I write this and you write your notes) and the opposition (Taurus), you especially feel it at any conjunction (Scorpio). The idea that the Taurus / Scorpio eclipses “speak” to you makes perfect sense for obvious reasons.
If you know your chart as well as you do, then I suppose you know the mythos of Scorpio. My version goes a bit like this: more so than other signs, perhaps any other sign, Scorpio has a number of major forms (icons). The classic low form is the scorpion. The sign is labelled with this because of the danger that the scorpion poses. Others refer to it as the snake in the low form. A higher form is the bird, including birds in general but especially the hawk. A yet higher form exists, and that is the eagle. You may already know that the eagle is actually a hawk, but for most (at least in North America) the eagle is a higher form. The highest form is the Phoenix. Like Icarus, the Phoenix tends to fly to close to the Sun. Upon bursting into flames and crashing to the ground, the Phoenix goes through a cycle of rebirth, often starting as scorpion or snake.
Though I have not cast your chart, I can tell you what you already know: the sequence is important. If the sequence is indeed “mercury, sun, pluto, and saturn,” then that is the drama that you play. You get an idea, have a conversation, or take a trip. (Mercury) It resonates with you and seems like a good idea. (Sun) But, then, you realize that you must be intensely focused, obsessed even. This comes easily to you but not without (sometimes extreme) pain and sometimes transformation. And, you have a remarkable tolerance for pain. (Pluto) In the end, you may get what you asked for, but you have to let something go. (Saturn). There are no free lunches.

One more thing (before I have a chance to cast the chart), I have a question. It might be a “homework assignment,” but I am not sure. Given the sequence of the drama outlined in my other reply, do you ever tinker with that sequence? Top of the list is this approach: stop being the incubator for ALL of your best ideas. Pick a few to give away. Then give them away in their entirety. Just give them to someone who you have very little dealing with. If it is an idea that can be incubated in four weeks, then check back on it in six months. And if it is an idea that can be incubated in a year, promise yourself to wait until the masters degree is completed before you check on it.
I do not say this lightly. Even without the astrology, I can guess that your health problems may be interconnected to a tendency to play this draama. Since you cannot overtly consciously limit yourself (if that is true), your internal organs do it for you. Exercise this kind of external control, of giving away a few ideas, and you might begin to heal.
By the way, have you checked into Relocational Astrology? NYC might not be the best place for you.

Thank you for your very in-depth and conscientious answer. When you say incubated, do you mean research and education prior to execution and development? It’s interesting that you say this because I have multiple talents/interests in many areas from illustration, to writing, to cooking, sewing, calligraphy, but I’m pursuing a degree in Graphic Design with a concentration in Web Development because it combines my passions for creating with problem solving and is something I can do anywhere in the world. I’ve lived in New York my entire life, and when I spoke to a psychic a couple of years ago, she told me Connecticut would be a great place for me to live and start a business. As far as my health problems go, I have PCOS, but also other little “nagging” ailments that seem to plague me physically and mentally and I have the tendency to burn the candle at both ends to the point where I’m so intensely focused I may eat only one meal a day and get just 3 or 4 hours of sleep, yet I suffer from extreme exhaustion. Recently I’m suffering from severe insomnia, which is probably brought on by anxiety about my new business venture. I’ve never even heard of relocational astrology, but I’m a little anxious about moving away from my family, yet I’ve had this recent desire to move…I don’t know where yet, but I wanted to want until I graduated to do so.
As far as my new business venture goes, I’ve encountered obstacle after obstacle since I started in March, and I’m wondering if the universe is telling me to look in another direction, which would be very hard for me to do because I’ve already invested so much time and money into this.
My moon is in Taurus, Sun in Scorpio, Mercury in Scorpio, Pluto in Scorpio and Saturn is in Scorpio, so your sequence is DEAD ON…but what does that mean in the context of Saturn Return?

Scorpio is a generative sign. That means they have the potential to “incubate” or generate things / projects. Your many talents give you many options, but for you to obtain the best result you must focus on but a few. Now, you and I know that some of your ideas need to come to fruition but they might get “cut.” So, as I mentioned before, you want to find someone to hand those projects to.
Scorpio can be obsessive. So, if you hand a great idea to a close friend, then you might lose the friend and the project. This is especially true if you “micro-manage,” and you may find it impossible to NOT micro-manage. Thus, you have to hand it to someone who is either a total stranger you will likely never see again or someone you will not see until long after the project has born fruit. Otherwise, you will kill the project.
Of course, in some cases your projects do GREAT! But, you can actually have MORE “great projects” by letting a few go in the manner I describe.
Let me describe it a different way. I can choose one of several approaches. One is to work 80 hours a week, accomplish 3 major projects, develop chronic illnesses, and have an unpleasant life in which I tend to die young. Another is to hand off a project to a “friend,” work 90 hours a week because I am now micro-managing the “friend,” and accomplish one really great project, have a luke-warm result which disappoints me, and have a disaster and lose a friend. And, a third is to give one project away to a total stranger, drop down to 60 hours per week, start to get my health back, accomplish two major projects, and see my third project eventually come to fruition (but someone else gets the credit).
The universe has left it up to you which option you pursue.

One more thing…I recently let go of someone whom I believed was my soulmate (his bday 10/4/1977, new york city) which was so painful…we weren’t in a traditional relationship, but I always wanted more and I thought he did too…however, with my schooling and business, and his inability to be with one woman at a time, we never had time to really connect so he moved on and is getting married soon.
I’m currently seeing someone 18 years older, (08/25/1967, jacksonville, FL) and we have a great emotional rapport, I feel safe with him, but don’t know if we have a future.

One lesson I have learned is that adults (and adolescents) use “relationships” (and obsessions) with other people to distract themselves from other matters. One popular way to keep from finishing a graduate degree is to enter a relationship so as to create a distraction so the person does not complete a thesis or dissertation. Only you know whether or not you are doing something like this.
That said, some people, a large category of people, are far more married to the hunt for a relationship than to any given human being that results from any particular point in the hunt. People tend to be imperfect and disappoint us. They do things we do not expect, even when we have been with them for a long time. And, sometimes, they are just plain boring.
The hunt is none of this. The hunt is never boring. No person is ever perfect, but we all seem to have a mental image of a perfect person. Some people mental images of what is, essentially, the perfect harem. (No single person will ever suffice.) And, if any given person does something that displeases us, then we simply reject them and move on to the next victim, er, candidate.
The best advice that I have ever heard is “look for a friend.” I have come to realize that some people are truly incapable of building true friendships, so I now tell people “look for an ally.”
One other thing, some people will never have a single person that suffices for the duration of their lives. Sometimes they are completely capable of being friends and doing all things right, but they just repeatedly outlive their spouses. Sometimes they simply cannot form a bond of any depth. And, sometimes, they are never satisfied with whomever they meet.
You are a Scorpio and he is a Virgo. Generally, you should be compatible. And, I could do a compatability analysis. But, I will not. I think you need a face-to-face astrologer for this, and you might need to talk to a counselor. And, I suspect that you already know the real answer from within yourself.

As you already know, you are at the gateway to “middle age.” The decade of the 40’s is important for a number of reasons. If you were to read a “Lifespan Development” textbook about that time of life, you might have some surprises, both favorable and not. I cannot recommend this to you strongly enough. For you, this is your “homework problem.” Let me add that you want to use the book as a starting point for relevant searches on the internet. Try this one: http://www.amazon.com/Life-Span-Development-John-Santrock/dp/0073532096 If it is a bit too pricey for you, you can try a local library or find it somewhere like Half.com. (Full disclosure: Santrock is a well known teacher of this subject who lives in the DFW area where I live.)
That said, let’s discuss the astrology for a moment. At roughly ages 28 and 56, Saturn returns to its “home” in your natal chart. In some ways, you get a “do over” with your life. Most people who study enough astrology to know what a Saturn return is focus upon these. But, the 40’s might be the most significant decade of all. Here’s why. (1) Saturn opposes its natal home, which has an effect similar to the Saturn return. That point, at roughly age 42, is a bit like getting a “report card.” Maybe some things you kept at 28 need to go. (2) Uranus, which has a roughly 84 year orbit, opposes its natal home. Few people live to 84, and almost everyone who does is retired; they have completed most of their life’s work. So, at 42, the Uranus opposition is as close as you are likely to get in terms of the equivalent of a “Saturn Return” for Uranus. Uranus, which we also call Prometheus, is not only the sky god that rules lightening bolts and accidents, but is also the bringer of higher awareness and flashes of insight. This is when you have the “aha” moment at 42 and wish you could direct your 21 year old self in terms of what to do. And, like Saturn, it tends to wipe away old structures.
To update a very old joke, a 42 year old man found a magic bottle and released a genie. The genie said to him, “you can send a single word through time to your 21 year old self.” The man thought for a moment and then said “Apple.” (Just in case you do not know, about 20 years ago Apple reached $6 per share. It is over $600 per share as of the writing of this comment.)
At the risk of sounding like a late night television advertisement for a kitchen appliance, “but, wait, there’s more!” (3) Neptune, with a 168 year orbit, experiences a quarter turn, or square, at this point. And, that has the same effect of removing things but in a different way. Saturn removes generally, Uranus removes through accidents and “aha” moments, and Neptune causes some people, places, or things to just “melt away.” Some of these things will go away, and you may not even notice they are gone until years later. Others are, sadly, elderly relatives and friends who “melt away” in the nursing home. If you REALLY want to work through your own karma, this is a good time to frequently visit those people. They will have lessons to teach you if you have the eyes to see and the ears to hear.
None of this change is rapid in the sense of Sun or Moon transits. All of it is gradual and appears over a period of years starting at roughly age 40 and continuing to at least age 44, often beyond. You will have chances to think about it as it happens.
I am not a numerologist, but I have met some who claim the entire period, from roughly 41 to 49. Their argument is simple: they say that the first period of life is like a week where each “day” last seven years. When they say “week” they are referring to the Biblical week of the Book of Genesis.
Within each “day” of seven years, the seventh year is best considered a “day of rest.” Arguably, that means age 41 for the sixth “day” of seven years. (Different people count this different ways.) Then, the ENTIRE “day” from age 42 to age 49 is a “day of rest” (a sort of Sabbath) in which we are transformed for the second half of our life. Although this approach does not intuitively “make sense” to me the way astrology does (astrology = life is repeating patterns through time), the notion seems interesting.
You are at a point now where you can spend some time thinking deeply about who you are and where you have been. And, you can think about who you want to become. Whether you realize it or not, you are about to enter a period when younger people, at least in the South where I live, should properly address you as “Sir” or “Ma’am.”
Don’t worry about things “getting worse.” Things ALWAYS get worse. And better.

Hello. Thanks so much for your detailed response. I will be looking into the book you mentioned. But I am not ready to me called “mam”. …HA It is funny you mention spending time with older people, this is something I started doing in the 1-2 years. I feel like I have reached a point where I am comfortable with ‘normal aging process’ things, such as parents sickness, death, etc. But there are other things, such as my illness and needing to accept that I will probably not have children, that has hampered my moving forward, this is what I am mostly concerned with. I have decided to answer this blog post. A fair amount repeats, but it is consolidated in one place where someone with similar questions can find it. You did not previously mention the illness.

Hi. I’m born 9/July/84 (06:27 a.m) . Sun – Cancer, Moon – Scorpio, Saturn Scorpio. I’m very worried with what i’m reading about saturn’s return to scorpio. I just want to double check, how would it affect me? (favourable?/unfavourable?) and is saturn’s impact explicitly with job and finances or does it include family?

I am converting this to a blog post. However, to make certain that your chart is correct, I will need the time zone of the time of your birth. Once I have that, if you have important planets near a house cusp, then I will need the location as well.

Birthdate: October 29, 2012 11:01pm EST -5:00, New York City. I’m interested in the transit in the coming year: I have mercury, sun, pluto, and saturn in Scorpio, so I’m VERY concerned about Saturn entering Scorpio in October.

The reason I sometimes do not directly answer your questions / comments is that, when I do, they drop out of the “pending” queue in WordPress. When that happens, effectively, your message is lost. (It is still there, but it becomes a needle in a haystack of about 150 other replies / comments.) So, I am PARTIALLY answering a comment of yours that is not yet “approved” (and visible to the public) because I want it to stay in the “pending” queue until I have time to more fully address this. At this time, this also applies to readers eltanu (who has more questions) and punj.
You are posing both interesting questions and an interesting chart. Let’s begin with your talents. If you have not read the book “Now, Discover Your Strengths,” then you must do so as soon as possible. Add it to your existing homework. I can tell that I will likely be giving you a series of homework assignments, and that is unusual. I do not like to do that because sometimes it dilutes the effect (less is more) and nothing gets done. In fact, that is a problem that you must constantly address. You have many talents, and they pull you in many directions. But, for now, you must focus on the ones that “fit” with your degree plan so that you can finish it. Sometimes a person with as many talents as yours can be adrift, pulled in many directions and accomplishing little or nothing. You may even need to make a list of things to either eliminate or place on hold.
But, in addition to reading “Now, Discover Your Strengths,” you need to read “Go Put Your Strengths to Work.” That book makes the point that, once you identify your strengths, you need to delegate, defer, hire out, cancel, or otherwise eliminate anything that does not play to your strengths. I practice this myself. I enjoy reading, and I enjoy analysis. One of my strengths per the “Strengths Finder” is “Future.” That means, astrology or not, I have a tendency to “see the future.” The Strengths Finder claims that some people can do this because they can see patterns that others cannot. That seems to be me. (I love the show “Perception,” by the way.) So, “in real life,” I make my living doing that in very ordinary ways, and here, in my “hobby,” I do the same. That is, my combination of writing and analysis here plays to my strengths.
Whatever your strengths are, you must learn to do the same or your life will be lost in “what ifs” and “could have beens.” I suggest written plans that address your strengths and how you can apply them to accomplish SOMETHING. You probably already do some of this. But, do realize that wondering if you will ever “get the right guy” can be a terrific distraction.
A different approach might be soliciting male friends who have common interests to work on projects with you. I may have some other ideas about this that I would not rather publish publicly; so, if you would like that feedback I would like your explicit permission to contact you directly at the email address you have provided.

Just glancing, you will feel a series of Saturn aspects that do not begin immediately at the ingress of Saturn into Scorpio but a bit later. You already had your Saturn return a few years ago. Now, you face Saturn conjunct Venus, Uranus, and the Sun.
This sequence can manifest in several ways. Venus in aspect with Uranus tends to favor unusual romances. Unusual means different things in different communities. For example, in more conservative communities it would refer to GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender). It can be sadomasocishm. And, in some cases, it is little more than a so-called “May-December” romance. For you, it could be something totally different.
Scorpio tends to be both conservative and secretive, so any romances of this kind you will tend to conceal. Furthermore, the romance can cause you great pain. Having experienced your first Saturn return, you almost certainly have experienced one such romance by now.
Such energies are not to be constrained, and they may reach beyond the romance. For example, you might have a certain kind of unusual genius for matters financial. Only you really know how this applies for you.
An hour of birth would be helpful, if you can obtain it.

Ahh, this actually does make sense, I’ve already had a “May-December” marriage, he was 16years older than me, and a divorce happened two years ago… so do you think those romances will keep happening? is it some sort of a pattern?… and is the result going to be always causing pain? At the moment i have a different sort of romance, it’s with someone from a total different culture/background… is that sort of the same?
Thank you very much, i really appreciate your help

Yes, for you it is the same. Uranus brings changes and surprises. This aspect indicates that you will likely never be satisfied with a “vanilla” relationship. And, I hate to be the one to break this to you, but you will always feel some pain from this. In all fairness, all of us feel pain in relationships. The pain is a type of feedback mechanism that keeps us in balance. But, you are extra sensitive, and you have some part of you that wonders “why do I do this?” But a different face of you tells you that you MUST do this.
We all have our own crosses to bear, and this is likely yours. Part of your Karma is finding a way to make this an advantage, or at least some way to use your story (stories) to help others.

Comment by Ripu— August 4, 2012 #
We have used tna_DB to calculate the upcoming transits. Let us look at the recent past first:
06/22/2011 13:19 True Node 91 Pluto
06/23/2011 23:15 True Node 91 Pluto
07/03/2011 11:37 True Node 91 Pluto
07/17/2011 06:10 Saturn 45 Neptune
07/20/2011 00:28 True Node 89 Mars
07/23/2011 15:59 Saturn 144 Moon
07/31/2011 00:28 Saturn 91 Venus
08/02/2011 06:38 True Node 90 Pluto
The big issue here is the True Node / Pluto. Ripu may have experience a death of someone close to her. If not a death then something related to death/dying, sex, poisons, assassinations, secrets, or maybe just good old-fashioned power struggles.
Saturn semi-square Neptune means that reality been intruding on some of Ripu’s most cherished dreams. This has not been without redemption as the Saturn BiQuintile Moon means Ripu has been getting some good ideas, but those ideas require persistent action. This is one case where action is essential; the ideas themselves are not good enough.
What is coming next?
08/12/2011 09:00 Saturn 90 Venus
08/13/2011 03:36 True Node 90 Mars
08/15/2011 23:49 True Node 89 Pluto
08/18/2011 19:34 True Node 120 True Node
08/20/2011 05:49 True Node 91 Mars
08/23/2011 02:10 Saturn 89 Venus
08/29/2011 11:31 True Node 72 Mercury
09/02/2011 20:22 Chiron 180 Jupiter
Saturn (continues) to square Venus which may indicate some physical wear and tear on Ripu. She will need to pace herself and may need some time off. But, True Node / Mars tells us that the pressure on Ripu will not let up. True Node / Pluto emphasizes the pressure even more strongly. Big issues are at stake. But, by September Chiron opposes Jupiter, and Ripu may pay the price in terms of illness if she does not take time to regenerate herself.
What about Ripu’s original question? Just before Saturn’s entry into Scorpio, the following (Outer Planet) transits happen for Ripu:
09/16/2011 00:09 Saturn 120 Sun
09/19/2011 14:04 Saturn 135 Mercury
09/20/2011 13:05 Uranus 45 Moon
09/22/2011 18:52 Saturn 45 Jupiter
09/22/2011 21:54 Neptune 150 Uranus
09/23/2011 17:26 Uranus 150 Jupiter
09/23/2011 18:28 True Node 150 Moon
09/23/2011 20:43 Saturn 150 Moon
10/03/2011 02:35 Uranus 30 Mercury
Saturn trines the Sun, and we see that Ripu feels some sense of pride in terms of recent successes. At least some of her hard work has paid off. But, soon, Saturn sesquiquadrates Mercury and she realizes that she must address details related to meetings, letters, and possible accounting issues. Uranus (Prometheus) and Saturn “turn up the heat” as they semisquare the Moon and Jupiter. Uranus might bring her another good idea or insight.
But, Neptune inconjuncts Uranus, bringing the possibility of being blindsided by a deception by someone she trusts. Uranus inconjuncts Jupiter at this time as well, and the deceptions will almost certainly force her to decide to “let go” of something or someone. If she is a manager, then she may have to fire an employee. Or, she may have to recognize that a false friend is not a true one. She may have to leave an unscrupulous employer if she is an employee. The inconjunct of the True Node to her natal Moon, and inconjunct of Saturn to her natal Moon, indicates that she will likely feel this deeply.
Even worse, she may not feel it at all. The deception may be quite successful, and she will pay a dear price at a later time.
But, in any case, the last half of September will be an important turning point.
In the last week or two leading to the transit of Saturn into Scorpio, Uranus will semi-sextile Mercury. A phone call, letter, meeting, or even chance encounter may give her an insight on how to best approach her recent challenge.
After Saturn transits into Scorpio, she will encounter the following:
10/13/2011 19:49 Uranus 45 Sun
10/16/2011 15:24 Neptune 45 Venus
10/20/2011 06:24 Saturn 180 True Node
10/27/2011 17:59 Saturn 150 Mars
10/31/2011 21:52 Saturn 30 Pluto
Uranus again adds pressure to her to “get things done.” Oddly, this will be a “feel good” period in which she can feel “too good.” She should avoid signing any contracts or legal papers in the first half of October. By October 20th, Saturn opposite the True Node will bring her back to “reality.” The end of October will be back to business as usual, except that Saturn Inconjunct Mars signals a strong push on a project that will not bear fruit in the manner intended (if at all).
Here is a list of Outer Planet aspects, both past and future, for independent exploration (“homework”):

01/06/2011 15:34 Neptune 30 Chiron

So I was studying during the first period Feb-July99 but I went on a europe trip taking a break from studies and in terms of good, a lot of exposure etc but in terms of bad I cheated on my boyfriend then during that time (with whom I continued to stay and we had relationship for total 8 years- 94 to 2002 but this cheating became a problem later on). Between May-June 2010 Most part of May I was working in a city in India and then beginning of June, I met my current boyfriend in person (I had email contact with him since Dec 2009) and started spending a lot of time with him then and decided to change my career to make films with him.

No, to be honest, I still dont feel any better. I tried to look at the patterns but they still feel very random for me in how the things have happened. Do you feel that it’s only Jupiter that is doing this and saturn and my 12th position has nothing to do with it? I also wanted to know when there’s a respite from all this? is there a period coming soon which will be more relaxed because it seems like i am on a roller coaster ride rightnow that doesnt seem to end.

With as many 12th house planets in Scorpio as you have, and Mercury/Uranus being one of the pair, you are unlikely to settle anytime soon or even during your lifetime. In fact, I have read elsewhere (I believe it was a biography of Grant Lewi) that mercury/uranus produces nomads that tend to change both jobs and locations frequently. You have probably been on a roller coaster most of your life.
Jupiter, alone, never accounts for everything in a chart. That would be silly. But, in YOUR chart, it seems more influential than in most. Saturn is at midheaven, and as I mentioned before this is good for academics and writers (and in the world of the internet, “content producers”). Transits to your natal Saturn must be important.
Reviewing your chart, I note Moon/Pisces and Jupiter/Taurus. Some claim that Pisces/Taurus combinations can produce criminality in a low form and a certain kind of genius in the high form. Strive to be the latter.

This is a bit off the Scorpio post but since your site is called grand trines I have a chart to look at if u have the time. Your info seems to be very accurate so I will love your input on my daughters chart who seems to be very talented. I am an amateur but I seem to see a 2 grand trines & a T-square.

Yes! You may recall that you “feel” the effect of the full moon (at least) a day before and a day after (sometimes more). The orbit of the Moon is 28 days; the orbit of Saturn is 28 years. So, how long in advance do you think you might feel the effect of the Saturn return?

Thank you Grandtrines. I really appreciate your help! I will definitely be back to look at the chart. I have one more question, though. Do you know anything about karmic relationships? Can you tell me anything about my relationship as far as planet position and karma associated with them? Is their a chart for that? It’s been a really intense 2 1/2 years with him and we have this karmic bond that we can’t seem to break. Any astrological advice would be appreciated. My birthday is 3/23/83 and his is 11/20/65. .
Thanks,
Evie:)

Hi,
Thanks for your post. It definitely picked my curiosity and I hope you can help me out here, since my life has been quite a struggle for the past few years… I am a Gemini with both Moon and Ascendant in Scorpio (born 6/6/1960 at 17:30 in Mexico City, Mexico), and I wonder how Saturn moving into Scorpio will affect me? Thank you for your insight!!!

Hi,
I had previously posted a comment here, but I don’t see it, so I’m reposting. I am a Gemini with both Moon and Ascendant in Scorpio, and I’ve been going through so much hardship for the past few years that I am really concerned about Saturn moving into Scorpio and what that would mean in my case… I was born 6/06/60 at 17:30 in Mexico City. Could you please give me you insight about what the future will bring? Thank you so much!!! I love your approach and finding this post was a gift.

I leave comments in the “pending” queue (which is not visible to regular visitors) until I address them. Otherwise, if I approve it when I see it, it effectively becomes “lost” in the 300 or so other approved comments. That means I will never get back to you. Since I still have the other message, I will leave it there until I can get to it, which (I hate to say) might be the first weekend in September (or even later). You might consider subscribing to the comments on this post until I can get to you. That way, you will get an email when updates are made, including my analysis of your chart.
If it helps any, a number of other people have comments waiting in the queue as well, including XCD, Joseph, Jill, & Evie. I have not forgotten you; I just have to carve out enough time to do a good job addressing your charts & questions. (Evie’s chart will take the longest of all because, like Nefrit’s request, it is a Karmic chart analysis of her relationship with her sweetie (as we say hear in Texas (think Paula Deen.)))

Actually, I think I can give you a preliminary analysis without having to run a chart. (I can do a certain amount of outer planet work in my head sometimes.)
Your Saturn is in Capricorn, and you are starting to feel the effects of Pluto being in Capricorn. The fact is that a major change is coming, but maybe not this year and maybe not even in 2013. By 2014, though, chances are good that you will have a major loss of some kind, likely either a death or a divorce.
You will feel Saturn touching your Moon and Ascendant but I cannot quite say when that will happen (most likely in 2013 unless they are in early Scorpio, and 2014 if they are in later Scorpio).
Grant Lewi claimed that Saturn crossing the ascendant marked a “dormant” phase. Actually, this time can often be anything be dormant but it does tend to have “prepatory” feel to it. You might go back to school. Saturn will make you address in a very serious way the “what do you want to do when you grow up?” question. Your answer may have changed since the last time you addressed it.
Speaking of Grant Lewi, your second Saturn Return is coming circa 2016 to 2019 or thereabouts. As you probably already know, that is a very big shakeup and shakeout. But, when Pluto does certain things, such as conjoin your natal Saturn (next year?), that can be as big (or bigger) than a Saturn return. So, yes, things are happening for you and, on an outer planet scale, will continue to happen until about 2018 or 2019.
That is, starting in 2013, you will experience “losses” that force you to redefine yourself in a way that will likely characterize you for the remainder of your life.
Better make a priority list of what you want to keep and what your willing to let go of.

Thanks for your comment here. I am actually going through many losses (and have been for a few years now), including a divorce right now, which have made me question my life purpose and prompted me to make big changes in terms of work, career, etc. I’m a bit confused… Are you saying that it’s going to get worse??? I do have Saturn in Capricorn in the 2nd house, but also Jupiter is there, so maybe that would change things?
I guess it’s hard to say without looking at my whole chart, so maybe you’ll have time to do that at some point. It would be lovely!
My 1st Saturn return definitely changed my life, but it was a wonderful experience, when I met the Divine for the first time and started on a spiritual journey, which has continued ever since. I’m praying that the 2nd and even the conjunction with Pluto will be on the same note/level, maybe deeper.
Anyway, thanks so much for your insight and hopefully you’ll have the chance to tell me more when you have some time.
Kind Regards,
Yol

One idea that I use is that of sequence. Others surely use the same, but I do not see it discussed much. Sequence is particularly relevant to your chart. Yes, you are in the middle of a sequence, and it is a powerful one. And, the sequence repeats, bring new versions of old lessons each time. As you master them, see fit to teach others when you become capable of that.
Undoubtedly one of your (karmic) mandates is to find the opportunity within each difficulty. Sometimes that seems impossible; I know this from personal experience. But, I also know from personal experience that opportunity often is hidden within the difficulty. A shift in perspective is necessary, as well as sometimes the feedback of others.
I suspect that you are familiar with the following quote:
Perhaps the best homework for you (you will note that I give homework assignments to my readers) is to (re-)read “Illusions” by Richard Bach. But, do not “just” read it; apply it as the manual it purports to be.

I sincerely appreciate your words. I know exactly what you are talking about, and it makes absolute sense to me. Not only because that’s what I’ve been learning throughout my life, and especially these past years, but also because it is part of what I help my spiritual counseling clients with, since it is part of my perception and self-exploration journey.
How long does a sequence usually last, or if it is different for each person, how long is mine? Maybe this is why I see life as cycles that bring things back in a spiral-like manner to be revisited before moving to the next level…
Kind Regards,
Yol

The catch to all of this is that the sequence is circular. But, wherever you have clusters of planets, you will have more “intense” periods when these clusters are “activated.” (Activation means conjunction, square, or opposition.)
Like you, I think it is really a spiral. We have repeating scenarios from which we can extract “lessons” (or patterns of potential responses). The lessons may or may not work for us the next time we encounter the scenarios. From those, if we are sufficiently aware, we have to opportunity to explore alternative “lessons” if we wish.
Some of this is developmental. The “cute” temper tantrum that works for the two year old little girl brings an adolescent that all the boys, but no one else, likes. Later, she cannot understand why she has a first, second or third divorce. Sometimes she latches onto a hapless slave that is sufficiently in thrall with her that he suffers the abuse–not good for either of them.
She will seek others with her same characteristics for the purpose of learning to throw the better tantrum or perpetrate the more conniving manipulation. When she is older, a crone, she becomes the “teacher” of how to victimize the “mark.” Never can she see how destructive her behavior is to herself and others. First she is infected, then transmits, a social disease composed entirely of behaviors and attitudes. Some have referred to these as memes.
You might say that this behavior is not working. But, some of the time she “gets her way,” and she glows with pride when one of her tantrums succeeds in getting her what she wants. She particularly loves an audience. If she can put on the show for her family members, to show how “powerful” she is, then she becomes ecstatic. And, that is enough gasoline to keep the fires burning.
Sometimes she cycles through a series of abusive men who have a predictable reaction to her behavior. This last pattern is particularly difficult and sometimes results in her death or disability. To be sure, she is not to blame for the abuse. She needs better choices, but her addiction will not permit that.
In almost all of these cases, eventually, she decides that she “hates men” and cannot understand why her children hate her. She may have a series of children hoping to get “the right one.” In desperation, she will pick a favorite child or grandchild and project her wishes and desires onto the child. The others will know something is wrong, but will not really understand what it is.
If she has any other problem with addiction, such as alcohol, then chances are good that her children will shun her. Even though she “hates men,” she will find a series of men who will play her drama. She will use any one until she uses him up and then move to the next victim. When she solicits the next target, her tale will begin with how “mistreated” she was.
Her future is often characterized by certain outcomes. Some commit suicide. Others commit a crime that lands them in prison, perhaps for life. Still others drink themselves to death or overdose. If none of those happen, she eventually becomes “that” woman in the nursing home.
What worked for the two-year old, and to some degree the adolescent, becomes a HUGE liability for the adult anyone whose life she touches.
Like an addict addicted to booze or cocaine, she cannot see it for what it is. (Sometimes she is addicted to the booze and cocaine as well.) It is, indeed, a spiral.
The ancients described it as the “Wheel of Karma.” The dramas remain the same as each body is spent and discarded. The elderly may develop some awareness, but it is near the end of the lifetime when most of the opportunity is gone.
Over time, it incapacitates. Few can escape it. Escape requires both awareness and consistent action (sometimes inaction, or refraining from certain behaviors). And few can live with the fact that “escape” means that they will have the opportunity to address new lessons. That is, the sequence continues to repeat but with opportunity to explore different lessons.
I have described a female here because the male variant has been described extensively in other places. He is invariably the counterpart in her dramas, the one who will “believe” that she was mistreated until he is discarded in the same way as the previous one.
If you are a spiritual counselor, then you know EXACTLY what I am referring to….

It’s been a very hard few years for me and I’m hoping to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Been doing a LOT of work. My birthday is 4/18/1973 @ 10:14 P.M Omaha,NE. I am finding insights after insights here. A lot of information is applicable in a sense of contextual understanding when i look at the situations in my life.
I know a person who has been doing this or has been doing this. Pretty interesting about the “Confidence trick” i was a victim. This is really insidious..
And grand tines i have seen this in person the pattern is existent for close to 10 years. You can imagine how many souls have been suffered by such acts.
They have never lost that’s probably the reason they never know how it feels, Some one is right by their side to pick them up quite immediately.

Actually, all of these people lose. And, although that is metaphorically true, it is also literally true. What happens is that they develop ways of concealing their losses. They are afraid of anyone knowing that they lose. But, be assured that they lose.
This behavior you are describing, “right by their side to pick them up” is called enabling. Enabling is part of addiction and other pathological patterns. Without enablers, the addict cannot maintain the pattern.
Just remember, it takes a village to raise an idiot.

I ended up here after frantically looking the internet for a decent input on Saturn’s transit through Scorpio starting October, and to be honest I am sure this is the best astrological analysis that I have ever come across in a long time…unbiased and so mathematical it just blew my mind… I am female Scorpio, very strong one, born October 29 1978, in Romania between 1 am and 6 am. My life was and is anything but ordinary and boring with huge losses and even bigger success. But I had never lost control of my own emotions. I seem to just can’t find solutions anymore, my mind is like a vortex! Is it because THE Saturn is getting closer to Scorpio? And if yes, would it set a trend for the next two years, cause that means I will definitely have to change my strategy.! Thanks again

My backlog of requests has become rather large, so I may not get to the specifics of your chart until October (or later, possibly December). I recommend that you subscribe to the site in some fashion so that you can receive notice when your analysis is posted.
But, I can say that the next two years may be a period of difficulty for your son. The person on the “other side” of this period, your nine your old son, will become very tough as a consequence of what is coming to pass. He will need as much help as you can possibly provide to him. Do recall that Scorpio often does not express emotion for fear of appearing weak, so he may need you to “come to him.”
When he reaches approximately age 37, he will revisit the issues that will soon come to pass for him.

I’m a female scorpion born November 18th, 1987 with virgo ascendant, libra moon. Born at 1:26 am and the time zone is JST( not a native english speaker sorry for my poor grammar in advance) For some reasons I can relate to a lot of the case of Nefriti, posted sometime in Aug. here, perhaps due to sharing the same birthday with her, not the same year though..lol It’s somehow scary ,especially to see what will come up to my 2years long LD relationship with my 46yo virgo man and my career.. Could you please let me know how saturn in scorpio in this Oct. will impact on me?

You will experience powerful “transformative” events. Whether or not you survive depends on other factors. Over the next two years (slightly more) you will likely have a number of conflicts and will have some things either “lost” or “taken from you.” What remains will become powerful sources of strength for you.
The possibility exists that you may receive an inheritance. You will have to be very careful to make certain that you do not squander it. Focus on being businesslike if at all possible, and “take care of business.”

Thanks for the complement! I think we are in transformative times. Scorpio is one of the most transformative signs (all have SOMEthing to offer, but, let’s face it, a sign that deals with death, taxes, spies & intelligence agencies, investigators, detectives, chemistry, drugs, poisons, and sex & rebirth is pretty transformative). And, Scorpios (collectively) are facing a major shift. Shift them, and you shift the world.

As the old joke goes, “flattery will get you everywhere.” Thanks for the compliment.
My life, at least my adult life, has been centered around the concept of “transformation.” Sadly, I cannot reveal the details for various reasons. That said, I have found opportunities for transformation almost every step of the way, if I was sufficiently receptive.
I have not always been able to be receptive. Some people, places, and things have generated too much fear and anxiety. Arguably, this is transformative, too, but not in the sense I think we mean.
Lately, I have had a few windows to work on transformation in a sense that we would favor. Most of my recent work has been dreamwork. I have briefly mentioned that here once or twice. Maybe I will start a separate blog for that.
What do you think?

So, I do them for free, and attempt to do one or two charts per weekend, although sometimes only one or two a month. I have a backlog of over 30 requests as of this writing. So, might be some time in 2013 before I can get back to yours. But, if you subscribe to the blog, you’ll get updates. I do not post much, maybe once or twice a week typically, so you will not be “spammed.” You will need to leave your birth date, time, and place as a reply to this comment, and I will do it when I get a chance (probably January of 2013).

If you do leave your birth data, leave a (preferably unique) first name or pseudonym, date of birth, time of birth, and location.
Also, subscribe to the blog (either via email or RSS) so that you will know when I do finally post your analysis. I do not re-sell email addresses and do not post much, so you will not be “spammed.” In fact, I will be lucky to get to the lunations (New and Full Moons) between now and the end of the year.

I am currently at a community center which is closing in about 20 minutes so I may have to continue this comment at another time but as I was reading you article on saturn in mutual reception with pluto it occurred to me several of the latest issues concerning investigations into financial issues having to do with 2008 and current money laundering scandals are connected to this mutual reception. Specifically I am referring to: the recent HSBC investigation, as well as the reporters consortiums’ expose of all of the billionaires with off-shore bank accounts who are attempting to avoid paying taxes in the US and the UK and the Liberty Revenue scandal which was broke today (5/28/13). Also the iRS investigation scandal which apparently is taking some unforeseen and unanticipated directions with the revelation the NFL (National Football League) is a 501 c 6 non-profit corporation and haven’t paid taxes since 1966…interesting

Thank you for your reply. I am at the mercy of a Grand-cross in cardinal signs and so again I am not able to comment in depth as I would like to and as the subject needs. I am not even in connection with what I wrote the other day so some of what I say here may be a repeat, still at least for me given the information I usually deal with and what my attention is focused on it came as a very serious surprise to view things on the societal level from the economic point of view. We are so used to being fed the political-military point of view and then only what is deemed appropriate by the powers that be it was interesting to see the emergence of apparent secret behind the scenes dealings concerning Pluto/Scorpio/8th house, Saturn/Capricorn/10th house issues coming more and more to light. But as I was talking with a friend the other day will the change favor the general (generational) development and evolution of humanity or favor the Plutocrats since it is they who were instrumental in starting this particular ball rolling with the founding of the US back in 1776. I believe I stated I use the Gemini rising chart erected by Marc E. Jones (Mundane Perspectives in Astrology) in contrast to the Sibly chart which seems to be the one accepted by most astrologers and I accept as foundational his presentation of the issue. That chart has Pluto 27 degrees 54 minutes retrograde in Capricorn in the 9th house in a Placidius chart with Taurus/Scorpio intercepted in the 12th/6th houses. In several years we will have the 1st Pluto return of the 1st nation which heralded the modern era and I think it highly important even information concerning the serious economic underpinnings of the founding of this country both as regards slavery and banking entities like the House of Rothchild and their apparent consistent and continuous influence in the affairs of this country up to and perhaps including the 2008 bubble is coming to little at this time in ways very difficult to ignore or dismiss as conspiracy theory crackpot. One thing about change to quote Heraclitus, “it is the only constant in the Universe” so the problem begins to be what kind of change are we talking about which comes back again to the question of will the change favor the Plutocrats since they were named for Pluto (rules by the powerful). It is said the House of Rothchild is worth over a trillion dollars. It is also said with some certainty they have controlled banking in Western Europe (the only Europe which matters) since Meyer Rothchild and the mid-18th century. The question or a question will be to what extent will the awareness of the collective motivated by Pluto/Saturn/Uranus and Neptune specifically change enough regarding a “modern” culture to benefit the way of life of the masses of humanity.
Once just recently I saw a picture taken from space of about half of the Earth. The picture was inclusive of the entire Eastern sea board of the US, Europe, Africa and Asia. The picture was taken at night or as night encroached. It was fascinating how in the parts of the world inhabited by the majority of the people there was darkness.
I bring this up here to point out the possibility of a massive “change” in the consciousness of an even significant percentage of humanity seems very unlikely, though it is equally certain the world of 2024 when Pluto enters Aquarius will not be anything like the one we live now. Still from an astrological point of view it would be good if we could do some through research into the kinds of changes which took place on the planet during several of the last Pluto in Capricorn transits to see what we might expect this time around. Hope you enjoy this commentary and thank you so much for your reply. (Forgive any grammatical errors, I just don’t have the time to proof this)

Yes, some of what you wrote sounds like what many call “conspiracy theory.” I am not tuned into this except in a very peripheral way. To the degree that I can, I try to keep my forum here relatively open. So, while I cannot agree or disagree, I will give voice to your comment on the chances that others might find it interesting.
That said, I do particularly agree with your commentary about the entry of Pluto into Aquarius. Yes, when that comes to pass, “we” will be very different. Though I do hope I am wrong, I suspect that a great war will emerge in that twenty year window. A realignment of powers will emerge from that.
Great debates have raged over what is the “correct” U.S. chart. Some have said that we have had (at least) three major versions of the United States, with the first born in 1776, the second born from the end of the Civil War (probably at Appomatox), and the third born of World War II (probably with the truce formed with Japan). This model seems extremely persuasive to me, though I have not pursued it in depth.
If this three version model is true, I suspect that a fourth version of the United States either has emerged or is about to emerge. We will know that answer to that only in hindsight, probably long after you and I are dead (passed to the other side or however you prefer to describe it). Arguably, this fourth version may be associated with the Pluto return. Although the more precise “moment” of the shift will be associated with some precipitating event. (But, for my opinion on the nuances of this kind of shift, please see my article: “Maybe it isn’t a point after all.”) Again, we can only loosely speculate on that from our current vantage point in time.

At this point I will simply say thank you for your reply and comments. I appreciate them and I will make an effort to say some more on these issues later. Perhaps in addition to Saturn/Pluto mutual reception, commentary might be made on, Neptune’s ingress into Pisces (during this Pluto in Capricorn period). There is a movie out about now entitled, “The Art of Killing” which I think presents the case (Pluto, Saturn and Neptune, in Capricorn, Scorpio and Pisces) nicely. I haven’t seen the movie just the previews but it is an interesting and disturbing film. Yes it is my hope that through blogs like this one a discussion of a kind which is trans-socio-economic-political can take place in which the masses can begin to act from a more informed perspective. My take on the founding of the United States has to do with the beginning of the end of Monarchy. The United States coincided beautifully with the discovery of Uranus. in my opinion a case might be made for this being the beginning of the “modern era”. After this point we have the end of the era of “aristocracy”, of kings and queens etc. If they do exist they are mostly figure-heads and weld no real power. Obviously much can and perhaps even should be said about this from the cosmological perspective and much that may be said may play into the changes we so desperately need and hope for. I wonder if I was Warren Buffetts’s son or Donald Trump’s nephew would I be as concerned about these issues and in this way? I’d like to think so but actually I think my focus would be a lot different. Anyway thanks again and I will comment more fully on these issues later, soon. James Page

I think you have some good points. And, I particularly agree with the idea that the discovery of Uranus (Prometheus) / the American Revolution almost certainly marked the beginning of the modern era. (Or, maybe I should say the Modern Era.)
Kings will never entirely vanish, nor will tax collectors nor will jesters, but the birth of the Internet signals the emergence of a kind of mass consciousness that we have not had before. Tools such as Twitter, smart phones, and tablets are growing this further and faster. Even more interesting tools are yet to emerge as we continue the transformation where the tension between individuality and the collective will be transformed again and yet again. Without the voices of Promethean Individuals the collective becomes stagnant, yet the collective (Collective?) tends to silence Promethean Voices.

Yeah great stuff. In reference to the World Wide Web/Internet and the technologies and corporations which have come into being as a result, would you attribute an…acceleration in this from the stellium back in the ninties (eighties?) of Saturn, Uranus(Prometheus o.k.) and Neptune in Capricorn? And yes the (sleeping) Collective…like the collective in the Matrix, will kill the Promethean individual, the Promethean collective will change (transform and transmute) the very outcome of the myth so a new level of human evolution (not progression) might become active.

Though I had not thought about it, you have a point. The term was the “Harmonic Convergence” circa 1987 though a fair amount of related aspects and alignments continued well into the 1990’s. I always thought that the entry and presence of BOTH Neptune and Uranus in Aquarius marked a key shift. Except for the shift to “Web 2.0” in 2006, and social media emerging from that, most of the “Internet as we know it” emerged during that period. Prior to that period, the “Internet” was mostly text-based because of bandwidth limitations. And, before about 1991 or 1992, the “Internet” simply was not the Internet but, instead, mostly a collection of smaller networks along with the DOD’s ARPAnet. The silly people who talked about the “Internet” in the 1980’s take us (collectively) to be fools (or too young to remember).
Regarding emergent corporations, a great deal has NOT changed. For example, most people thought Arthur Anderson went away after Enron. While that is technically true, it really just reformulated itself into “Accenture” and carried on business as usual.
Prometheus thwarted the Titans and was punished for it. When he thwarted Olympus by giving Fire to the humans, he was punished for that. The Greeks seemed to know in their mythology that those who bring us the greatest insights are often punished bringing the gifts that they give us.
So it is with Promethean individuals. And, the Collective is never really Promethean, except in relation to a version of itself that no longer exists. To be Promethean is to be an Individual, inherently apart from the Collective.

Okay. This is really good for me. I really would like to thank you for the continued dialogue. I would imagine you are very busy so the time you take to answer my replies is truly appreciated. Since this will hopefully be continuing and maybe developing into something more practical and substantial let me introduce myself astrologically: December 11, 1951, 1:15 pm, Cleveland, Ohio – Sun – Sagittarius, Moon – Gemini, ASC – Aries, M.C. Capricorn, Mars, Saturn and Neptune in Libra (stellium).
While at this point I think there needs to be, if there is not already, a “school” which studies esoterica in general seriously an having as part of its curriculum the correlation of astrological phenomena to historical, cultural and social events in the modern era (or should I say Modern Era?) which is really the province of Mundane Astrology, I want for personal reasons, I (had an aortic aneurysm on April 7th 2009),
take as a sort of point of departure Pluto’s ingress into Capricorn in 2008.
Its 5:35 am here in Cleveland. I had one of those night in which I woke about 4:00 am and could not go back to sleep. So in checking my e-mails I saw you reply and decided to write this. Just prior a friend had sent me an e-mail of a Huffington-Post article in which Steven Spielberg was predicting the implosion of the motion picture business model in the near (by 2020) future.
As I read this I thought about how many of the blogs I ‘ve read in the last few days concerning the Saturn/Pluto mutual reception have made some sidebar references to Uranus inconjunct Saturn which occurs during this period (of mutual reception) but not mentioned the trine between Neptune and Saturn, the sextile between Neptune and Pluto and the Grand trine which will form during this period as well.
Yes I understand this is a great deal to consider and perhaps too much in the way we view astrology in the mass media. Still I thought as I read the article about the motion-picture business model how especially if it happens, when it happens it will be an example of many of the things we have pointed to in or conversation.
Your mention of Arthur Anderson, Enron and the certification company he was head of (whose name I can’t remember at this point) and how they “re-organized themselves to continue on business as usual was co-incident with the thoughts I had concerning how in the late 60’s and early 70’s there were reports of how the Hollywood studio system was over and that form of it was…now we find years later there still is a studio system as part of a larger media conglomerate and apparently not even a significant part of it given Spielberg and Lucas’ (George) comments in the HP article.
Finally for this note, yeah Prometheus was all of that except I think there can not be any separation from the collective. This is a flaw, problem in our conditioning. If my memory of the Greek mythology serves me well at least as regards what was distilled from the classics for popular consumption (something I don’t think given the real nature of myths was a good idea) Prometheus gave mankind fire because it was cold, dark and dangerous on the earth and men were of weak constitution and not surviving.
What I believe Prometheus represents (Uranus) for us is the spark of Genius within us which can help us to evolve and progress as a species (collective). Part of the reason it seems to me there are these reformulations of the autocrats, plutocrats, oligarchies and various other forms of elitist tyranny is the collective unconsciousness or ‘sleep’ in the form presented in the fairy tale of the masses of the people.
What manner of ‘crises’ or kind of power would it take for people to ‘awake’ in sufficient enough numbers to affect the real change necessary? Yeah! But at the same time I don’t subscribe to the, “oh well its everyman for himself or herself theory either”.
Since Pluto has returned to the place it was in when the country was founded, Neptune is in its own sign opposite where it was when the country was founded and Saturn just left (Libra) its place when the country was founded, this is I think
a unique opportunity more so than usual to break out of the box we seem to have been in for several centuries and yes I think the Harmonic Convergence, and the 2012 Baktun Count all contribute (or could) to our understanding of what change and how for the better.
One thing is sure we cannot long continue the way we are. Thank again for the discussion. I hope you can use my commentary in anyway to help further your efforts and the efforts of the Grandtrines Astrological Blog.
Alafia (Peace)

Your chart sounds interesting; your comments are interesting. Whether or not the Promethean is “separate” from the Collective turns on how the word “separate” is defined. But, invariably, the Promethean exists in contrast to the Collective. Without the background of the Collective, we do not have the contrast that identifies the Promethean.
