The Promethean New Moon of 2012
This New Moon is as Uranian as they come. With the midpoint of the New Moon precisely located between Retrograde Mercury (overdue events, running late, and sometime accidents) and Uranus (aka Prometheus, the bringer of light, discoveries, and sometimes ‘accidents’), how can any NM be more Uranian?
An extremely cursory (brief) search of the internet yielded plenty of names for Full Moons but none for the new ones.
This New Moon deserves its own special name: the Promethean Moon of 2012.
Here is the basic chart of the New Moon of March 22nd of 2012:

Aspect Grid
Looking at that NM chart may not show the power that will present itself on March 22nd of 2012. So, if you can read aspects, consider the Aspect Grid (shown above). (And, if you cannot, just consider that this grid is composed almost entirely of two symbols: conjunction symbols and trine symbols.)
Conjunctions
Each conjunction is a CONCENTRATION OF ENERGY. Here, it is in Aries (energy, vitality, violence, & war), and involves Uranus, Mercury (retrograde), and the Sun/Moon as a New Moon. The conjunctions, in the Aspect Grid, are the circles with the lines sticking out of them. This many of them together does not happen very often. And, the little triangles mean that the effects of any event at this time tends to be very long lasting. AND, this new moon is only two days after the Spring Equinox of 2012.
March 22nd
March 22nd is associated with a few interesting historical events: the Jamestown massacre of 1622, the British Parliament passes the Stamp Act (setting in motion the American Revolution), Intel ships the first Pentium chips and (in 2009) Mount Redoubt (a volcano) begins erupting. It is a good day to be the Promethean New Moon.
United States Map
The United States map is particularly interesting, since this Promethean New Moon rises off the coast of earthquake prone California. We may not see the quake at the time of the NM, but do not be surprised if we see one, a really significant one, between the time of the Vernal Equinox and the Autumnal Equinox. Why such a large range? The answer is that the range is so large because of a number of other interesting events, particularly the Summer Solstice of this year (which is tied to ANOTHER New Moon).

With the Promethean Moon on the Descendant in the Middle East, we can expect an “active” spring in that region.
Sun-Mars-Saturn Yod of March 23rd
Consider the following chart (with a Sun-Mars-Saturn Yod). (Note that it is not JUST the Sun aspecting Mars & Saturn, nearby Uranus & Retrograde Mercury are really part of that pattern, too.)

For those of you familiar with the uncertainty of Yods, this looks interesting so soon after the New Moon. One more map, this time of the Yod. Note that the Uranus line is practically on top of Sacramento / San Francisco.

Am I predicting an Earthquake in California this Spring? Let’s just say that I do not plan on vacationing there this spring or summer. One more disturbing note, a similar set of lines is just east of Tokyo at this time.

Grand Cross Begins Near Algol Day
May 16, 2010 at 10:46 pm | Posted in Astrology, BadDays, Patterns, Predictions | Leave a commentTags: algol, Grand Cross, mercury retrograde
When is Algol Day? The annual Solar conjunction to Algol began May 16th and will be finished after May 17th. We have felt the influence a few days before as we came out of a Mercury retrograde, and we will feel it a few days more as we continue to enter a particularly powerful (and rare) Grand Cross.
If you are not reevaluating your position now, then you should. If you want to “jump ship” and take your life a different direction, the next week or so will give almost everyone a chance to do just that. What do you want to be when you grow up?
Full Moon of April 28, 2010

First of all, many of us will be impelled to action by the impending conjunction of the retrograde Mercury with the Sun at this time. We will feel that “things” are overdue, and that we must act. A real danger of acting rashly exists here. Act, to be sure, but act wisely.
For the details of this, check the midpoint tree of Mercury on the Wheel and Data page, shown later in this article.
Full Moon Activates the 2012 Solstice Focused Yod
This Taurus Sun / Scorpio Moon Full Moon occurs at 8 Taurus / Scorpio, which is an activating point for the 2012 Solstice Focused Yod. Events that happen on or around this time will tend to have long term consequences, and that is confirmed by the final Saturn / Uranus opposition of that series with Saturn / Uranus in the final degrees of Virgo / Pisces.
Unquestionably this is a signal of some kind for the financial markets, but what kind? Some say a recovery; some say a “Bear Rally.” In this case, the entry of Pluto into Capricorn a year ago signals the beginning of a long period of what might be called “Fiscal Conservatism.” Pluto is related to investigations, and Capricorn is the sign of finances and financial markets. Deep, probing investigations into the financial services industry is, or should be, the norm. The Saturn / Uranus opposition series has been the herald, and the astrological avatar, of the recession. That opposition series also signal a need for evaluation of existing structures (Saturn) and possible change (Uranus).
Hele of Full Moon of April 28th
This Hele appears to be active and important at the time of this Full Moon:
Since Hele is a new pattern, this is difficult to interpret. However, it appears to at least potentially involve the severe anger of betrayal (Pallas) aligned with Venus (Art & Beauty or Finances) in relation to Neptune (Deception), Moon (Full), and Saturn (Authority). An “explosion” (not literal) regarding Goldman-Sachs, Madoff, etc. may be about to “come to a head” today. A pimple appears waiting to be popped.
Venus in a Yod with Ceres and Pluto v. The Full Scorpio Moon
That said, the current economic condition is about as good as it will get. It may or may not have peaked yet, but the exuberance of the preceding twenty years is no longer warranted. The Venus / Cerus inconjunct confirms that some (many) will be irrationally exuberant over the current rally. Venus is also inconunct Ceres, and Ceres and Pluto are conjunct each other.
In fact, Venus is in a Yod with Ceres and Pluto on one side, and the Moon on the other. Ceres / Pluto conjunct could be called the “I want to have my cake and eat it, too” aspect. You cannot have both, but that is exactly what we feel. A decision must be made, based on the conjunction alone. But, Yods emphasize decisions, and we are almost never satisfied with the results (from a hindsight vantage point).
To best understand the energy of this full moon, read about Ceres and Pluto here.
In this case, we must make a decision about decisions. What issue will we focus upon? If we focus upon a Ceres/Pluto viewpoint, then we will be faced with the challenge of “having our cake and eating it too.” If we pick the Moon, then we are picking a Full Moon with the Sun Conjunct Retrograde Mercury. This means that we must double check everything and look at old projects we had discarded. In the end, we will have to balance investigation and intrigue (the Scorpio Moon) with art, beauty, and productivity (Taurus). Investigation is necessary, but investigation (alone) WILL NOT GET THINGS DONE. No matter how we approach things today, if the 2012 Solstice is important, then we will see today (and this week) as a turning point in our lives.
On a more personal note, this is a tough time for anyone who starts a diet. Certainly it CAN be done; Pluto helps but only through pain or traumatic events. The Ceres (giving into the temptation to eat what you want) is far easier and far more pleasant. All that said, here is the Full Moon Chart:

Mercury Retrograde April 2010 and Focused Yod
April 17, 2010 at 10:53 am | Posted in Astrology, Predictions, Weekends | Leave a commentTags: accidents, algol, Astrology, double yod key, earthquakes, explosions, focused yods, lost objects, Mercury, mercury retrograde, thor's hammer, Thor's Hammer key
This Retrograde Station seems to be keeping in the times of earthquakes, airliner crashes, and mine explosions. The Algol Moon of the Spring Equinox seems to have indicated this as well. We see, with this station, a Focused Yod that last several days, through April 19th, a Double Yod Key the hour before the exact moment of the station, and a Thor’s Hammer (God’s Fist) the hour after the exact moment.
From a personal perspective, this is likely to be a difficult weekend in which old dramas are rehashed and tensions increase as accidents occur. As is always true at this time of year, tragic accidents with teens or college students are almost certain to happen. Please make extra efforts to keep you and yours safe.
Mercury Retrograde in General
Mercury Retrograde has a bad reputation, and it deserves it. It is associated with communications and transportations problems that bring us to a halt or even make us move backward. This particular retrograde lasts until May 11th of this year. That is a little long for a Mercury Retrograde.
Previously this year we had a Mecury Retrograde that started in December of 2009 and concluded January 15th. We will have two more this year: (1) August 20th until September 12th and (2) December 10th until December 29th.
Mercury Retrograde does have uses. The core issue in MR is double checking everything or suffer the consequences. Earthquakes reveal shoddy construction where what was needed was not what was done. Mine explosions elucidate shortcuts in safety that caused lost lives. Airplane crashes likely show similar factors.
Thursday, about 48 hours ago, this astrologer saw a five car pileup on North Central Expressway (NCX) here in Dallas (aka DFW or “the Metroplex”). Transportation (and communication) especially suffers from events such as tailgating in this period.
Besides highlighting what needs to be done, MR also is a period where efforts to retrieve that which was lost may be successful. Frozen projects may be thawed. Items lost in the closet, shed, or garage may be found. This is a very good time to clean and organize and profit from those efforts.
Here is the chart for this MR, followed by specific charts and analysis for the Focused Yod (this is about making crucial decisions).
Noteworthy are the highly active midpoint trees for Saturn (authority), Uranus (accidents, explosions, earthquakes, etc.) and Chiron (the need to teaching and healing).
The Focused Yod
The Focused Yod of this period, which lasts for several days, is likely the most important pattern. This is a period of crucial decision making. Mercury Retrograde here says the we must take the time to slow down and do things write. Familiar with the old saying “there is never enough time to do things right but always enough time to do things over”? Here, we are having to do things over. And, if we do not get it right this time, we will probably revisit again, and again. The next to “opportunities” to get it right are late August and mid December. Probably best to get it right, now.
This Focused Yod has Saturn (authority) in one of many of a series of oppositions to Uranus. The issues here are large scale and will be revisited in years to come. But this period, the next few days, will be seen in history as a turning point in this conflict between old authority and new revolutionary (but sometimes a bit “nuts”) ideas. Neptune and Chiron suggest insights blended with confusion on one side of the decisions. The Sun, which is management and authority (neither new nor old) is on the other side. Traditionally, that which is today represented by Uranus (Prometheus) was represented by Saturn as well. Saturn was viewed as most distant from the Sun, and “opposite” as Aquarius (Uranus) from Leo (Sun).
So, here, a “good” decision is possible that does not heal the problem. We will all like it, but the solution will not be nearly as long lasting as the problem. This is solution found in the Sun (one year orbit) will not last as long as the problem(s) (Saturn, 28 year orbit, opposite Uranus, 84 year orbit). Worthy of note: the orbit of Uranus is a multiple of three of that of Saturn. Every time Uranus returns to a particular place, Saturn has orbited three times. In a sense, this means Uranus ultimately “wins” over Saturn. Change is the only constant.
The other decision, Neptune and Chiron, also LOOKS good but takes us through a time of murky unclear difficulty in which insights gained will teach us what we need to know to resolve the problem in question.
In any case, we will be unhappy (quincunx, always) and look back longingly at the ‘road not taken’ during this crucial period. Here is the chart:
Double Yod Key
Double Yod Keys are generally considered to be a new construct in astrology. As such, they are not fully understood. (What pattern is?) From recent experience, DYK’s appear to indicate multiple decisions and multiple events. DYK’s are associated with three decisions (at least). But, also, recently, DYK’s occurred with the triple categories of events of (1) earthquakes, (2) accidents (airplane, mine, & other), and (3) explosions (mine, terrorists, etc.). Everything comes in threes, right? Here is the chart of the DYK just before the precise moment of the Mercury Retrograde Station:
Note that the Ascendant is one of the four points, and it is at 25 Scorpio and continues in aspect until the Ascendant enters Sadge. Almost certainly this point of 25 Scorpio (opposite Algol at 26 Taurus) is a harbinger of additional ill-fate.
Thor’s Hammer (God’s Fist)
This Retrograde Station has a Thor’s Hammer about an hour after the station. It is yet another punctuation mark that the earthquakes, accidents, and explosions may not be over yet. They could easily continue as Sun, Mercury, and Venus move past Algol (through May). Here is the chart.
Please post comments, especially if you would like to see maps.
Weekend of January 30th Dominated by Mercury Direct Station
January 30, 2009 at 12:57 pm | Posted in Astrology, Predictions, Retrogrades, Weekends | 5 CommentsTags: aries, ceres, diet, direct, eclipse, famine, feast, FingerOfGod, Mercury, mercury direct, mercury retrograde, Moon, Saturn, Yod, Yods
What eclipses this weekend (sorry), is the Mercury Direct station. This this station follows so closely after the eclipse is even more of a sign of changes to come.
For many of us, personally, this presents another major turning point in the diet issue. Will we feast or will we famine? If you are fighting this issue, this weekend is an important milestone. You will especially find Saturday frustrating, as your plans to stay on track are upset by Mercury changing directions. As I have written before, keep in mind that if you fall down you can get back up.
But even if you are not fighting the diet fight, you will feel the shift in other ways.
Friday morning starts slowly, but the day becomes more “lively” with a possible power struggle or financial issue in the afternoon.
Friday has a quiet Piscean period which includes a void from about 3am Dallas time (6am UK) until the Moon enters Aries after 9am. Aries Moons tend to bring about activity. And this Moon squares Pluto early, as early Aries Moons will do for the next few years.
Plutonic activity often signifies concerns over taxes. (It is that time of year again, isn’t it?) This can be a sign of other disputes, or perhaps intense sexual activity. By itself, it is not a major aspect, but following so closely after an eclipse it can signify that you will see a major turning point in your life this afternoon. Keep your eyes open.
The day ends pleasantly enough with an aspect to Jupiter.
Saturday is the peak day in the diet battle, and Saturday also brings to fore issues with with “will” and the intensity needed to get things done. This is embodied in a “finger of God” that has Ceres (food) and Saturn (structure, willpower) at the focal point, and the Moon in Aries at one fork and five planets in Aquarius at the other fork.
The five planets in Aquarius speaks to use tending to decide to do “what the group wants to do.” If you have a support group, this is a good time to attend activities. Go to OA if you attend that, or an extra Weight Watchers if you attend that.
For many of us, we see a drama that includes three different groups: (1) a group of people, possibly five or more, who advocate THEIR viewpoint; (2) an authority figure and possibly a “young lady” (who could be engaged to marry); and (3) a lone, but exteremly strong, female. When we think of this “lone female” think of Diana the Warrior.
I cannot say who will win this battle of wills, but I can say that the drama will be a lively one. Enjoy!
January 9, 10, & 11: A Rather Wild Weekend
January 9, 2009 at 12:29 am | Posted in Astrology, Lunations, Predictions, Weekends | 4 CommentsTags: diet, FullMoon, inconjunct, Inconjuncts, Mercury, mercury retrograde, Moon, Pluto, Uranus, Weekend
Looking for a “wild weekend”? You will probably get your wish fulfilled this weekend. On Friday, the Moon is void from just after Midnight (Central) to just after Noon. If you live in the UK or Europe, this means that the Moon is void for the workday. If you are a new reader, you might ask what does that mean?
The traditional interpretation of a Void Moon is “nothing will come of this.” In recent years, some practitioners have noted that sometimes something very definitely DOES “come of this,” but often in a weird or unexpected way.
By itself, the Void Moon would be enough. But Mercury is practically at a standstill, the official date of the Retrograde station being January 11th. Mercury Retrograde is notorious for problems with thinking, communications, and transportation. Princess Diana died in an automobile crash when the Moon was void and Mercury was retrograde. So, be careful.
After the transit of the Moon from Gemini into Cancer, about Noon CST, a major shift in energy occurs. People you know might just want to go home and hide out. Or, since the Moon has moved into the sign where it will become full, they may be ready for a wild ride.
In fact, Friday evening is a good night to stay home with your sweetheart.
Saturday proves to be a “better” day, but remains “interesting.” If you broke your diet the other day, then you can use Saturday to get restarted (Moon Sextiles Ceres.) This may not prove easy, but if you fall down you can get a great idea (Moon Trine Uranus) from a lesson learned and re-start in earnest. The Moon is Full by 9:30 Central. After that, the Moon immediately goes void and is waning. Waning Moons favor diets.
Both Ceres and Mercury go retrograde Sunday. We have described the problems with Mercury Retrograde a number of times, so we will concentrate on Ceres, the Grain Goddess.
With Ceres retrograde, you will have to carefully scrutinize the areas of feast and famine in your life. This is not just with food; this can be an excellent time to make a budget or organize a family meeting to make a budget.
The Moon is void on Sunday until almost Noon, so any plans made during that time may be subject to revision. Make your plans anyway, because Sun Trine Saturn will favor them. (Most plans need revisions anyway.)
If you are having a family meeting, expect some disputes over these issues. Moon opposes Jupiter and is inconjunct Pluto. (Moon Opp Jupiter = “blows it out of proportion”; Moon Inconj Pluto = “power struggles that resolve into false hopes.”)
Even so, this is the time to “lance the boil.”
January 6, 2009 A Mostly Uneventful Day
January 6, 2009 at 5:59 am | Posted in Astrology, Predictions, Retrogrades | 1 CommentTags: FullMoon, Jupiter, Mercury, mercury retrograde, retrograde
The way writing astrology columns goes is that I am supposed to tell you about some dramatic event. I’ve already covered that with Jupiter moving into Aquarius on Monday and the upcoming Full Moon on Saturday followed by the Mercury Retrograde Station on Sunday.
To be sure, these are interesting times that ask us to scrutinize our thoughts, communications, and travel. But, today, TODAY (Jan 6th) is relatively quiet and uneventful. You probably know the name for this: “the calm before the storm.”
You should already be noticing glitches in your life, a bit like when Neo notices the black cat walk by and then again. Mercury Retrograde “reprograms” our “Matrix” a bit. So, as you may choose, take advantage of this brief calm period to prepare for the approaching storm.
Jan 5, 2009: Jupiter Moves into Aquarius
January 5, 2009 at 2:42 am | Posted in Astrology, Predictions, Retrogrades | 1 CommentTags: Jupiter, Mercury, mercury retrograde
“Jupiter Moves into Aquarius.” What does that mean if you are not an astrologer?
This shift indicates a move in power from Corporate America & “Big Business” into the grass roots voter. But, it will affect many other areas, particularly higher education and the legal system. And, long-range travel, such as vacations by cruise, may be revolutionized by this shift.
If any of this is your order of business, be assured that “things” may be a bit unclear until after January 19th. On that date, Jupiter moves out of the first three degrees of Aquarius. That, by itself, may not be enough; you may have to wait until Mercury goes Direct on February 1st.
If you really want to know what this Jupiter transit means to you, personally, you need to look at the period between January 21st of 1997 and February 4th of 1998. Other major influences were present (notably Uranus in Aquarius), so you’ll have to focus on “things Jupiter.” (Courts & Legal, long term travel, Higher Education, Ambassadors & Foreigners, perhaps “growing” a new business.)
Whatever MAJOR event you did at that time in your life (going back to school, quitting school, etc.), you are about to somehow revisit it.
Today (Jan 5th, 2009) is a relatively routine day. Take a few moments to ponder the events of 1997 and how they might be relevant to your life today.
Astrology for New Year 2009, Part 1
December 29, 2008 at 1:40 pm | Posted in Astrology, Predictions | 4 CommentsTags: Chiron, Jupiter, Mercury, mercury retrograde, Neptune, NewYear2009, retrograde, Retrogrades, Station, stations
The New Year asks us a few things and tells us some.
It asks us:
- Do you realize that what you say is what you will grow? The stories you tell your friends this year will benefit, or haunt, you for years to come.
- Do you know what you need to know to improve your health?
- Are you in touch with your dreams?
- Do you know (a) who can help you make your dreams happen? and (b) who would hold you back and cheat you from achieving your goals?
- Do you know who is wasting your time and energy?
- Do you know how to best use your time and abilities to give back to the community?
Also, 2009 tells us:
- Whether it is Obama or someone else, we need to handle the large banks the way the phone company was handled in the 1980s: they need to be broken into smaller regional banks and made accountable to the people.
- Large corporations will engage in massive deception to keep us from seeing the truth: the real power is in the people, small business, and (at the biggest) regional organizations.
- The health care system, ESPECIALLY mental health, is overdue for an overhaul. We continue to ignore the problems at our peril.
- Crime will be rampant, especially fraud and crimes based on deceit.
- More than any other year in recent times, this will be a year to get in touch with our educational needs, health needs, legal issues, dreams, intuitive abilities, and abilities to heal by teaching others.
Many of the forecasts on this blog focus on identifying potholes in the road ahead. Good news is available; read it here.
Interactions between Mercury, Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune will be important in 2009, and they will bring us a chance to heal from the difficulties of 2008. But, we will have to guard against false hopes and deception. Even so, we may be given a glimpse of what we are truly capable of being.
Assuming you just read that analysis, let me expand upon it further. The bad news is that Jupiter will no longer soften the effect of Pluto in Capricorn. The good news is that Jupiter will not amplify the effect of Pluto in Capricorn. Instead, Jupiter moving into Aquarius means that Jupiter will interact with Neptune and Chiron to bring a major shift in how we “do business.” Speaking of “Business,” that field is ruled by both Jupiter and Saturn. If Saturn is the source of power for those who benefit from “bear markets,” then Jupiter is the source for those who favor “bull markets.”
Jupiter is saying what is coming to fore in the political world: growth will no longer come from larger corporations who continue to merge into larger corporations. The monoculture of giant, megalithic corporations will only continue to concentrate wealth for a few, leaving the rest of us to suffer. Jupiter is saying that our collective strength will come from recognizing the power of “the people.”
In the past, Democrats were known as “Trust Busters.” Will it happen now? Instead of bailing out the huge banks who have made bad decisions, will we break them up into smaller entities? Will we awaken to the idea that we need to restore power to regional and community banks? Or will we continue to “bail out” banks so they can have junkets on corporate jets and charge the citizenry 30% interest on credit cards?
To be sure, as mentioned in the other article, Mercury will have important interactions with Jupiter. That will be true for other planets, notably Venus, but that’s a topic for another article.
Jupiter transits into Aquarius on January 5th, during the shadow of the Mercury Retrograde. Mercury is Stationary Retrograde January 11th, which makes accomplishment difficult. Many businesses and institutions do not reopen until January 5th, after the holiday. Broadly speaking, they’ll be “in for a surprise,” as we sometimes say here in Dallas.
More on 2009 in Part 2.
December 12, 2008 Full Moon and Grand Cross
December 12, 2008 at 8:57 am | Posted in Astrology, Lunations, Predictions, Retrogrades, Weekends | 1 CommentTags: FullMoon, Gemini, Mercury, mercury retrograde, Moon, opportunity, Pluto, Retrogrades, sadg, Sagittarius, Saturn, Sun, Uranus
We saw a slightly reversed version of this energy “about” June 18th, earlier this year. If you want to understand today, and the few days before and after today (roughly Wednesday through Monday), you need to closely examine whatever you were doing “around” June 18th of that time. Of course, the key event may have occurred on the 17th or 19th, or 16th or 20th for some people. You’ll find important answers by looking at that time.
Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces will find today, and this period, to be “interesting.” For some, it will be irritating and annoying; for others they will find opportunity. The opportunity may not be entirely obvious, show you have to keep your eyes open. (The advice in the previous paragraph should be helpful.)
Mars and Uranus are interacting in such as way as to cause accidents and fights in the “low form” and intensely driven passions in innovation in the “high form.” How you use that energy is up to you. But, if you are at all a problem solver, this is your time to make things happen, particularly related to education, the courts, photography, video, poetry, or composing (music).
Mercury joined to Pluto has the potential to produce some very angry words, exacerbating the likelihood of the “low form” of the energy in the previous paragraph. But, this energy, too, can spur a “turning point.” Just be aware that your art or poetry made have a bit of an angry or energetic feel to it. Paintings & prints with dominant reds and oranges are most favored. Passionate music that speaks out against an injustice is favored for composers.
Sun and Saturn tell us that we must focus on the details. Today is NOT the day to be sloppy in your efforts. A mercury retrograde is lurking in January, so I’d wrap up key agreements and negotiations soon. After this morning, buyers are favored. A few good deals can be had in this holiday season.
This can be a very good weekend for shopping.
